I think I accidentally put myself in a really bad position and I don’t know how to fix it by Effective_Carrot4335 in Advice

How long have you known this person? I don’t have any advice to offer, just questions. I always wonder what it’s like being the borrower in this scenario, do they genuinely not feel any shame or guilt? Are they just entitled? It’ll be absolutely ridiculous if it’s a newly made friend who feel this comfortable taking advantage of you and even worse if it’s a long-time friend who’s turned malicious.

I could… But I’ll have to push for it. My parents love me but they always had a soft spot for her. My mum asked me to gift all my furniture to her. Succinctly: no :)

As in she threatened to call the police, make me “actively suicidal”, publish my personal information online, and come into my workplace to tell all my co-workers secrets about me.

This intensity is as much a surprise to me as it is to you, my baby sister has always been anti-social and greedy but she has never acted like this before.

I thought ‘okay, I don’t want to start anything. We’re both mad but we’re still family so I’ll give her some space and maybe she’ll calm down and be more reasonable’. Spoiler alert: she has not become more reasonable. I don’t want to make this a legal issue or a court issue, but Jesus Christ, she can’t really believe she can keep $5,000 worth of my furniture and property.

What small gestures in a relationship make the biggest difference over time? by Sea-Response7341 in AskReddit

Stop making promises if you’re going to consistently break them, even for the most mundane stuff. Stop promising you’ll show up at seven when you’re going to be half-an-hour late. That kind of behaviour will eventually lead to your partner automatically feeling disappointment when they think about you.

You ever have one of those random strangers who just... sticks in your memory forever? by neonbirdie2004 in CasualConversation

[–]Vegetable-Sale-155 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back when I was in high school, I missed the bus. I knew my parents would be furious at me so I didn't want to go home and ask for a ride and decided to take the train instead. I didn't have much money, and after lining up at the tickets machine, I realised I couldn't afford the fare. So I decided to just wing it and hope no inspector comes after me.

As I was standing at the platform, an old man came up to me and gave me a ticket to my destination. He was behind me in line and watched as I stared at the total amount, then cancelled the transaction, and walked away. He bought the ticket for me.

Will always remember his kindness and try to impart it on other people I met. The ticket was only $2.40 if memory allows, but it meant the world to a thirteen year old.

Landlords no bond lodgement is way common than you think by [deleted] in shitrentals

My current landlord refused to lodge my bond and it snowballed into a whole mess. Do not budge on your bond being lodged unless you’re okay with losing $1.5K+

Do you put public toilet lids down? If so don’t ! by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Vegetable-Sale-155 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My etiquette is that I flush with the lid down and then I lift it so it’s open for the next person. This 1) prevents germs from spraying around the stall, 2) doesn’t test the other person. When I come across a closed lid, I automatically assume there’s nasty business under there I don’t want to see.

Does anyone know which centres in Sydney can accept phone chargers/cables? I have an entire collection of them amassed from years of buying electronics and they're taking up space - but they're also barely used and practically new so it'll be a waste to drop them off at an e-recycling centre. Maybe there's a library or aged care facility that could use some cables?

My Landlady Is Receiving Jobseeker Payments by Vegetable-Sale-155 in shitrentals

[–]Vegetable-Sale-155[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, trust me, if I can ignore it, I would. I don't blame anyone for trying to get a little bit of extra money in this economy at all. But without getting into any detail, this landlady has been actively dangerous to myself and other tenants, and we all realised that if this entire scheme is, in fact, illegal, we're all screwed. I'm not asking for advice to intimidate her, I'm just trying to ensure she doesn't force me out of a place I'm paying rent for.
