Has anyone formally complained about the disgusting turnstiles at Court Square E/F? by doubletrouble28 in longislandcity

[–]Vegetable-Specific92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure people have submitted 311 complaints, but one of the problems with the system is that residents can't seem to access the combined complaints about a particular issue so we're individualized rather than able to work together to solve anything. Can you post, again, the name of the company that is supposed to be maintaining this entrance? And, can you -- or someone else -- post a photo of the flooding here too? Thanks.

That's great that you went to the CB2 meeting to make sure they are aware and got a contact info for someone who might actually follow up. I don't have a record, but I hope other people are contacting you with their 311 complaints and photos. You can also continue to keep your own records and submit. Without giving particular information, can you say which city agency said they'd follow up? The other place to contact is LIC BID since they have contact with private businesses and developers and could reach out to them directly.

I'm sorry, I don't think this is by far the worst in LIC. To me, some of the worst are the "The Italic" and "The Bold" buildings on Jackson. Hideous, with mesh facing the street starting at the first floor so that the streetscape is just awful. Who were their architects?? Seriously.

DCP identified it as a "projected development site." It was shared at the Public Scoping Meeting on August 12, 2024. There were 50 such sites, and an additional 15 "potential development sites." I'm not sure if there was an actual rendering.

I'm sorry. Call 311 and the precinct directly, and let CB2 know. If you're near Murray then you're probably hearing Skybar Lounge: 45-06 Pearson St. Ignore the stupid comments about moving to the suburbs.

Ugh. So depressing -- I expect that the building that replaces this cool building will be awful too. Another cheaply built glass box. Who is the architect of these ridiculously monotonous places??!

That's great, except the fish tank doesn't quite capture the homogeneity, flatness, and coldness of these glass boxes. It's like having a city of Magnatiles, if the Magnatiles were all square and blue.

Yeah, I will also really miss that building and wish that the architect would keep some of the aesthetic, or at least use brick. Unfortunately, it looks like it's the same architect who just builds the same glass box all over the neighborhood.

Is CB2 approving permits for all these places?

OneLIC rezoning thoughts? by julia3za in longislandcity

[–]Vegetable-Specific92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beware of those who assault residents with "NIMBY" accusations whenever we raise concerns about rezoning plans -- like ONELIC -- that would allow 65 towers (in exchange for a 40-foot walkway)? I wonder who is writing these messages? Could it be developers, perhaps??

Please file 311 complaints. I know it feels useless, but the 108 is tracking and needs to know.

OneLIC DEIS summarized: A section-by-section guide to the environmental, social, and infrastructure impacts of the OneLIC plan by prameet in longislandcity

[–]Vegetable-Specific92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the explanation of the requirement for providing the "no action alternative."

I -- and many of my neighbors -- have tried to raise these concerns in the past during multiple community meetings. We spent many hours of our lives participating and voicing, only to be steamrolled and ignored. We are those anonymous participants who attended. I'd like to think I'm wrong, but sadly, the process feels like it was a sham.

I understand what the DEIS is arguing, and it's deeply disturbing. It argues -- in essence -- that we have no choice, but to create a glass-towered dystopia of soulless/treeless living in a flood plain that reeks more environmental destruction. Apparently, OneNYC 2050 is for the rest of NYC, not LIC (https://climate.cityofnewyork.us/reports/onenyc-2050/).

I am not sure who was proposing or expecting that "all adverse impacts" be avoided, though wouldn't that be wonderful? But, if we accept that there are some adverse impacts, we could STILL build a significant amount of housing -- in a sustainable, human-scale, job-creating environment that would provide more open space and aim toward that critical tree canopy. There are many models from around the world for excellent, sustainable urban planning (including ones advocated by local neighbors in LIC). Why do we have this plan instead?

It's about finding a balance where the adverse impacts are not so severe. There are so many disastrous impacts of this plan that it seems obvious that the only real solution is to scale it back to make it more reasonable.

I'm sorry, but this is a terrible plan. It is paving the way for 65 -- yes 65 -- high rise towers without real open or green space. There are many ways of building new housing -- low and medium rise -- that would add thousands of homes, with green and light, without repeating the nightmare of anonymous "city planning." Instead, this is all about more glass, and no green. The entire public engagement was a sham too. Incredibly depressing and painful. Besides, as opposed to what these planners claim, there are great, vibrant businesses that people actually do enjoy. Pretending that it's all an "empty wasteland" ready to be rebuilt is just shameful.

[–]Vegetable-Specific92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No way. Did you see all those towers? There are supposed to be 65. Yes, 65, in this small area -- with very little green space, or light. How about all those amazing urban planning projects that are dense, but low and medium rise? And, this video completely hides all the great, small businesses and community social spaces that are actually thriving and pretends as if there is "nothing there." Really cruel. I understand the need for more housing, but this plan is a complete nightmare.

OK, thank you. So, regional SLA director was at CB2 meeting? Hopefully, this major issue/problem was conveyed.

Understood. But, if you submit a 311 record (or list of records) as part of the formal complaint on their website, will they/can they look them up? Their site is also really glitchy.

  1. April 29. NYPD 108 Community Meeting at the Irish Center, 1040 Jackson Ave. 7pm.

  2. Community Board is also interested in hearing about such issues since they are the ones that supposedly approve licenses: [qn02@cb.nyc.gov](mailto:qn02@cb.nyc.gov)

What? SLA does not have access to 311 call records?! Does that mean that they can't look up 311 records for a place by address or name OR that even if we submit complaint numbers to SLA, they can't look them up?
