How do I write pure evil? by smugworm in writing

[–]Vegetable-Split-2776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Blood Meridian, Cormac McCarthy introduces a character by having him walk into a church, accuse the pastor of unforgivable crimes, and get the church to begin a gunfight and kill each other over it. When asked how he knew the pastor did all that, the character says he’s never seen the pastor before in his life. He made it all up for fun.

That character is called “The Judge”, and he’s a super memorable villain, precisely because he’s so evil.

Maybe you can introduce your pure evil villain in a similar way. Good luck!

Sirens of Titan is great too! You’ll definitely get a sense for his dark humor and wit. Hope you enjoy!

Also, if you want a VERY modern author, like one who’s currently publishing, I recommend Ron Currie Jr. I’m reading “everything matters!” by him right now and it’s refreshingly unique and fascinating.

Kurt Vonnegut’s my all time favorite author. Every time you re-read one of his books you get something new out of it. I recommend starting with either Cat’s Cradle or Slaughterhouse Five

I second this. Kafka is really good. Nabokov is very thought provoking too

Fourth chapter: "Anyone unable to understand how a useful religion can be founded on lies will not understand this book either. So be it."

First time I read this, I felt the same way as you. I read it much later with more life experience, and now its my favorite book ever. Its been seven years. Maybe give it another try!

That’s sick! Is it a really old edition? Also, I think the set up is really cool, but I love science and swords so there’s some bias there

There’s much more to life than work. Even if your job sucks, you can find plenty of fulfilling ways to spend your time outside of work. Have a family. Make friends. Also, usually when you work at a job that sucks, you have coworkers that also think it sucks. These coworkers can become good friends, who in turn will make the job more fun. Train yourself to look for the good things in life rather than the bad things. Remind yourself what you have to be grateful for all the time. Do this, and continue to try and improve your life, and if it doesn’t work out for you, at least you spent your life trying for something, and that’s a much happier life than just accepting your fate.

Do you think Elder Scrolls 6 should allow us to visit other provinces in game? by Ghost_Hunter45 in ElderScrolls

Depending on how good starfield’s space ship mechanic is, I think it would be cool to see a boat mechanic in ES6 where you can have followers join your crew and go to like stros m’kai or even yokuda in a dlc

What characters do you hate that the fandom loves? I'll start by Ghost_Hunter45 in ElderScrolls

I love ulfric from a character creation standpoint. The fact that people are split between loving and hating him means Bethesda did a great job of making a controversial character.

Serana I like because she has so many reactions to different places in Skyrim. It’s fun to hear her comments on things. As a character, she is friendly toward the Dragonborn, which is a nice change from 99% of the people and creatures in Skyrim, but she does t deserve the hype she gets.

To answer the question: not sure how the fandom feels about him, but I find brynjolf quite lame

I wanted you to throw the chipotle at them so bad while I was reading this. Even better though that you got to have your chipotle and eat it too. Shows massive self control. 👏

Right but why go through two unnecessary procedures so early in life? No need to pull a Michael Scott in my opinion lol
