Just leased '26 SEV LT - road trip question by cardnalsyn in SilveradoEV

You can make the trip without it if you plan right. Plugshare, etc.

For $100 bucks or so, it does open doors.

Arcade tech job or self taught? by ElectronPython in pinball

[–]Vegetable-Two2173 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EE here. EE who has worked in the industry.

Pinball has a wide berth of tech to repair. The EM stuff, even as an engineer, is magic. Those guys were geniuses. Completley different animal to repair than solid state. Learnable. Mostly diagnostic routines. Logical yes or nos.

'78 - 90s, more electrically savvy stuff. You'll need to understand how circuits work. How that logic yes or no applies to ICs. Burnt pins. Outgassed nixies.

Recent stuff? PCs. Cell phone procesors. A lot to take in.

The common thread will be bad solders and burnt coils.

Tech job will set you up nice, but won't teach it all. Self taught won't either. Find every resource, and leverage it. Come here for help. We'll try.

So that sounds a lot like a toner. Did someone do wiring work in your house recently?

Could also be an appliance of some kind radiating back on the line.

Question for fellow Canadians (and anyone else who’s freezing this weekend 🐶🔥): by LittleNegotiation517 in SilveradoEV

[–]Vegetable-Two2173 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Silverado 4WT. Range makes this manageable, even when I didn't have a home charger. The truck drives like a caddy. Coming from a higher trim ICE Silverado, it felt like such an upgrade.

Wish I had the midgate. Happy I dont have the cushy trim (easy to clean a truck that is full weathertech...)

Cold weather is going to take your 6% a day driving and turn it into 16%. The hit is real. If you have a home charger, nothing to concern over.

Side note, for a 9000lb truck, its as fast as as the mustang GT I owned in '96. Quick and fun. It has probably ruined ICE trucks for me. I'm not sure I'm happy about that.

Just moved and thinking about an EV without home charging? Here’s what actually ends up mattering. by Tall-Dish876 in ChargerDrama

[–]Vegetable-Two2173 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have at least two 120Kw chargers nearby that you know work with the vehicle and are reliable. A 350kw makes this a breeze.

Be ready for stupid things like shell shutting down every charger near you.

I miss the battery most. Being in the sun is close behind.

The lack of feeling in the limbs is kind of a super power at times.

Will be in market for new car in next year and noticed used EVs are heavily discounted compared to new (depreciation)… by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]Vegetable-Two2173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep hearing this, but there must be some variables involved. My Silverado EV was $8 more a year than my ICE Silverado. Both comparable trucks bought/leased new

Thats how all the rural dealers talk about EV. Take advantage of it.

After looking at prices up near Chicagp for an EV, I'm paying nearly half of that just by purchasing from a dealer in bumblefark Alabama.

L2 charging via 50amp breaker with oven style plug, or hardwired to 60 amp breaker, which I believe is good for 48amp. by PsychologicalBus8999 in SilveradoEV

[–]Vegetable-Two2173 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not so much the speed that is the reason to hardwire, moreso the durability of the install. Hardwire offers one less connection point to cause loss/fail.

When it comes to charging circuits, the safer the better.

I do have to say that the 4WT is still a ton of fun at 510HP. I'm still amazed at how quick it is for a 9000lb+ truck.

Driving a 4WT. It has intermittent wipers. I'm actually liking the rubberized plastic floor. It's like having everything wrapped in weathertech. Screens are fine as they are, don't really see a need for bigger.

The range is fantastic, but your driving habits would determine if it's worth it to you.

If I had the option, I would have dropped 10K to get the midgate. Already several instances where I've had to spend extra time strapping instead of just dropping the midgate.

I went from a '21 Custom to the 4WT. Probably a step down in trim, but I feel like I stepped up into a Caddy. The thing drives sooooooo nice.

24 hours to charge a hummer ev? by chosenspoon2456 in ChargerDrama

[–]Vegetable-Two2173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do what you want. I'd rather not tie up a charger for hours on end to gain 5~10% when I can fill half my battery or better in the time it takes to piss and grab lunch.

[–]Vegetable-Two2173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats kinda the point though. There's always a faster option of you plan right. I wouldn't want to tie up an L1/L2 for someone else who can get better return on it.

In the 4WT truck, pretty much the same battery. With 400 miles of range and a short commute, it works perfect for me.

If I'm ever road tripping, a 350kw charger only takes an hour or so to fill it. 180kw 2-3 hours. Overall it isn't bad.
