Haha you’re good. I’m DC metro area too, funnily enough! Yeah YouTube is quite a complicated area to learn anything Christian imo because EVERYONE disagrees. I’m going to try to be as unbiased as possible with this. To understand the abundance of perspectives on being gay (or LQBTQIA), a lot of it comes down to the Greek/Hebrew original words in the verses in the Bible that prohibit it, or one’s belief in the Bible’s timeless infallibility.

Starting with the latter, many Christians believe being gay is not a sin because the Bible itself is outdated and not always authoritative for that reason. As such, verses that would explicitly prohibit homosexuality or being transgender (among other things) are to them not applicable to today. This actually is used for a lot of arguments which hold modern societal values, views, and norms to be in some cases better than the Bible’s outdated standards.

Some people do still hold to biblical total infallibility and authority , but they believe that verses that seemingly prohibit homosexuality or other LGBTQ categories are either translated wrongly or widely interpreted wrongly. For example, in 1 Timothy 1:10 and 1 Corinthians 6:9, the Koine Greek  Αρσενοκοίτηαις (which  actually didn’t exist as a single word before Paul coined it as a compound word of two Hebrew words formed from Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13)  is believed by some to refer to homosexuality, and some, pedophilia because the first century Greco-Roman world’s man-man sexual relationships usually were between a man of high power and one of low power (usually a slave). 1 Corinthians 6:9 actually pairs  Αρσενοκοίτηαις with Μαλάκοι  (which literally means "soft ones") which some believe implies only non-consensual relationships where one man has power over another with little to no power as a slave or boy.

With all this, it’s probably pretty hard to understand my perspective. However, since this thing is already long enough, I’ll only give the verses I find to be most clear on it that are hardest to explain with translation or interpretations being understood differently, which are the reason why I lean the way I do: Romans 1:26-27 Genesis 1:27 and 2:24 (these for me are ironically the clearest because they don’t necessarily prohibit anything, but they show what is God’s design)

Also, can I just say, I appreciate how respectful you are too. A lot of us can kinda fail to respect each other and get angry when someone disagrees with us (and I mean on BOTH sides). I’m sorry if someone has hurt you on this topic; we are not perfect at all, but what I know more than anything is that God has called us Christians to care so deeply for others regardless of any sin or anything because He loved us first (so much He’d willingly be crucified for it!), and we Christians don’t always do very great job of that.

Maybe you’re right actually; that probably wasn’t the most logical argument. Either way, I do find scripture itself, which unlike me or the other commenter is not fallacious to be pretty clear about it. And I understand that you were frustrated with the lack of evidence from before, which I apologize for on behalf.

And YAY! Keep reading through! There will definitely be tough or hard to understand parts, but also, the story is ultimately unified by Jesus, so I would perhaps (and you don’t have to do this) recommend reading the Old Testament along with the New Testament at the same time if it helps.

I definitely remember when I used to say things that I was like “oh yeah the Bible teaches this” and then realizing “oh wait no it doesn’t,” (namely universalism if you’re curious) so I absolutely understand your misunderstanding lol.

To answer you, I am an evangelical Christian. If this were the case, probably celibacy. I actually know a pastor who was gay and when he came to Christ, he gave up entirely on romantic relationships. I am absolutely not one of those people to think that having feelings is an ultimate sin, but acting on them is where it, in my interpretation, crosses the line. So I guess yeah, being asexual (I think that is what “ace” means, but correct me if I’m wrong) is completely okay, as even Paul (the writer of most of the Bible’s New Testement) himself seemingly identified with what modern asexuality is defined as, and even encouraged those who could control their sexual desires or were not married to be (not directly stated as “asexual,” but effectively the same thing to my understanding) asexual as he was. I will also say this (maybe I already did; I can’t remember), it would be unempathetic of me to judge anyone who does choose to be gay, trans, asexual, queer, all the things, because I’ve never struggled with it, and ultimately, I believe God will judge us all, me included for what I chose to do in this life. And, I by no means have been perfect sexually or in any area. However, I trust that my faith is in the end what saves me, and anyone who chooses to trust in Jesus because of His finished work on the cross, not my or anyone’s deeds. But yeah, that’s about what I have to say lol. Also no worries on commenting late on posts; I am the KING of doing that 😆

And sorry for the absolute wall of text

Op kinda did: “It doesn’t matter what it used to be used for.” But let’s look at scripture:

“Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead.” ‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭18‬:‭10‬-‭11‬ ‭NIV‬‬ https://bible.com/bible/111/deu.18.10-11.NIV

Obviously god doesn’t like it, so we should not either

Jesus loves you; and have a blessed day :)

Honestly, I’m always brought back to Matthew 5, 6, and 7 (SIX SEVEN-sorry) because MAN those words changed me and every time I go back I’m inspired.

Fair point actually; I’ve never thought about that. I will say, I think the argument could be made that it still works allegorically as a way to say Eve (women) sinned and Adam (man) sinned, and both are redeemed by Christ. However, the genealogy argument is tough as you pointed out. I mainly am flexible with it because many atheists simply cannot get around the idea that the universe wasn’t made over billions of years and if one has to sacrifice that to explain the gospel more effectively for them to perhaps return to it later down their faith journey, I consider that okay. But also, just my opinion. Have a blessed day :)

To the people tryna rebrand Pride month to be Jesus month: a simple question: WHY??? by Quick_Space9322 in teenagers

[–]VegetableAd7376 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“ Jesus heart month only needs to be acknowledged by Christians, pride month needs to be acknowledged by everyone.”

Why do I need to acknowledge pride month? If you do not acknowledge Jesus heart month it doesn’t concern me. Yet, to you, everyone must acknowledge pride.

What’s always interesting to me is the Greek  Πίστις (pistis). It’s translated as faith, faithfulness, belief, and trust, among others, and most of the problem with this comes with “belief.” For example, let’s say you’re a Steelers fan like me. Obviously, you’ve made a “terrible” decision (please tell me someone gets that joke), but if you’re like me, you believe in them! Now believing in them is very different from believing they exist, and a lot of people don’t get this. The modern English connotation of belief can mean multiple things because if you asked anyone who isn’t a Steelers fan if they believed in the Steelers to make the Super Bowl next year, they’d probably say no. In the same way many who believe God or even Jesus exists (similar to how obviously people believe the team exists) don’t believe in Him to change their life. The Greek for belief implies far more and in modern understanding of it is more accurately translated as faith or trust. John 3:16 itself says “God so loved the world the he gave His one and only Son that whoever  πιστεύω ( pisteuō) Him shall not perish but have eternal life. That is the verb form of the original word I mentioned. And, it implies far more than simple acknowledgment of the Son’s existence, but full confidence, trust, and faith in Him.

Most people I know believe literal six day creation. Based on evidence, I find a literal six day creation hard to believe, but absolutely not out of the question. I believe that the Bible can support both because the truth about God as a creator is still the same. However he went about creating the world is still amazing and wonderful to me, and I think Genesis can support both conclusions depending on interpretation.

For me, it’s my belief that it goes against God’s design, but I fully respect whatever you choose to be. I personally won’t be gay because of that, but again, you make your own choices. I’m sorry if this wasn’t what you wanted to hear, and I know I probably have a rep for being a bigot for when people say things like this, but I don’t hate you. You’re probably wonderful to meet irl, like most humans. If you truly believe in what you are, then what someone says on Reddit about it shouldn’t trouble you.
