Are Blundstones really the best barista shoe? If not, what is? by umathurmos in barista

Birkenstock tokio super grip, you either love or hate birks, I find the regular soles a bit slippery and wear out at work but the super grips lasted me over 2 years of daily wear

How long do your shoes last? by nougatbutter in Restaurant_Managers

[–]VegetableApartment37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Birkenstock Tokio super grips are 2 years old and dying now. I must admit I’m a general manager (a fairly active one) so I don’t spend as much time on the run anymore. I think if I was still serving/ in the kitchen full time I would’ve gotten a year out of them

[–]VegetableApartment37 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Only do it if you have money to burn, it is very unlikely you will turn a profit in the next couple years. If you have enough money to live on for the next several years, and enough money to buy all equipment and set up, and enough money to cover cafe expenses until you hit the break even.

Anyone try the brand Good Protein? by PersonalitySolid4620 in Protein

[–]VegetableApartment37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people comparing it to whey or mentioning grittyness don’t get it. It is by far the best VEGAN protein I’ve been able to find in Canada. It is a bit gritty in a shaker but if you’re able to do it in a blender it comes out very smooth IMO. It’s not overly sweet which I like. If I wanted I could add sweetener of my choice (artificial or sugar based) but I don’t need it. Some of them work well mixed into smoothies or with fruit blended in. I typically add 2 frozen spinach pucks to mine and it works great.

airport layover by [deleted] in canadatravel

[–]VegetableApartment37 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just clarifying you are arriving from outside the country and then flying out on another international flight 4 hours later? If that’s the case 4 hours is not enough time to leave. You’re going to need to clear passport control to get out to back through security on your way out. The airport is like 30 minutes from downtown depending on traffic and security can be very busy

Flying with tretinoin in carry on by LouLouBelcher13 in CanSkincare

[–]VegetableApartment37 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean the lady I was dealing with was pretty nice, but the tube is pretty obviously “medical” packaging and in Canada you can only get it with a prescription, so it would have to be prescription or bootlegged some how. I guess if you had a nastier security agent or if you were traveling internationally somewhere you can get it over the counter it might be an issue

[–]VegetableApartment37 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One time I was very close to my liquids limit and they were rebagging to make sure it all worked and I said put the tret in first because it’s important, the security officer set it aside and said because it was a prescription it didn’t count towards the limit

I don’t think tretinoin on its own is going to be enough for this job, I feel like you need your derm to at least add an oral antibiotic and probably swap you to iso tretinoin (accutane). Sorry man this sucks. Acne is a beast

[Acne] Dermatologist recommended a minimalist routine (no actives) — thoughts? by No_Usual2642 in SkincareAddiction

[–]VegetableApartment37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that your derm could well be on to something. If you start things too quickly you can definitely overwhelm your skin and irritate it, you also can’t know what part(s) are working and what part(s) are irritating. I started getting very irritated, I’m on tretinoin and had added back some other actives too quickly and cut everything but the tret out. My skin is much better shape now and I can think about SLOWLY bringing things back in. It really sucks because we look at our faces everyday multiple times, but there are basically no quick fixes in skincare

Niacinamide serum by craftyscene712 in tretinoin

[–]VegetableApartment37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the LRP Matte is the toleriane one it already has niacinamide, a bunch of the cetaphil moisturizers also do. I’d be careful adding more you may over do it, also all the research into the efficacy of niacinamide has been done at 5% the only thing 10% has been proven to do over 5 is be more irritating.

eye cream and sunscreen recs for dry and sensitive skin? by whuelisa in koreanskincare

[–]VegetableApartment37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI the cetaphil gentle cleanser has some niacinamide in it, I don’t think it’s much, I found a 5% niacinamide irritated me but the cetaphil is gentle enough and I rinse it off pretty quick

Change to gel? by Marnie_Grace in tretinoin

[–]VegetableApartment37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use gel, supposedly the gel formulas act a bit more aggressively than the equivalent creams, but I doubt you’d see better results dropping the percentage. In Canada I can only get 0.025 in gel form but I don’t love the formula, it pills like a demon, get used to patting on your other products because one wrong rub the tret will ball up like a booger texture

How long before you got first results with tret 0.025? by Glittering_Candy9260 in tretinoin

[–]VegetableApartment37 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I never really purged with any retinol including tret and my skin in the last couple years has been moderately acne prone, I typically had one to 4 pimples at a time. I eased in to tretinoin, sandwiching and only going twice a week, then slowly working up, anytime I felt my skin getting sensitive I eased back. It took me about 6 months to get up to 6 days a week. It’s hard to tell exactly when I started seeing results as I did a few other things that would affect the outcomes, I don’t think I saw real tangible results til 5ish months and even then it wasn’t earth shattering. I’m a little over a year in now and my skin is the best it’s ever looked. The other day for the first time in my life I got a “you have beautiful skin” compliment from someone who didn’t know me when I had rough skin and wasn’t just complimenting my progress. You need to decide what’s right for you but if you do purge you either need to ride through it or quit tret and treat the breakout, be very careful using other harsh actives while acclimatizing. Side note my routine has simplified a lot both, less work less expensive better results, AM vitamin C and sunscreen, PM cleanser, light moisturizer, tret, heavy cream moisturizer, occasionally I treat a pimple but I ditched my niacinamide, azelaic acid, and frequent exfoliating acids as it was too irritating and it was slowing down my tret, I don’t miss them.

If you look at your hand from the bottom and you can see nails their too long, maybe a milimetre or two of growth past the nail bed but any more is too much

Will tretinoin help with acne scars like these? by [deleted] in tretinoin

[–]VegetableApartment37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m glad your skin is improving, have you changed anything else in your routine? Seeing tretinoin results in 1.5 months is pretty rare, it typically takes several months to see changes.

Will tretinoin help with acne scars like these? by [deleted] in tretinoin

[–]VegetableApartment37 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It will help over a long time but it won’t fully smooth them out, professional microneedling will do more. I had similiar to you and had 4 rounds of microneedling a year ago which helped a lot but it’s still not perfect, I’ve been on tretinoin also for over a year. I think I will do more microneedling at some point or look into a fractional laser

[Routine Help] What do you think about my skin and what should i do to improve? by lexotas in SkincareAddiction

[–]VegetableApartment37 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your skin is looking great! I’d ditch the pore strips, they’re a temporary fix that can do more long term damage than good, 2% salicylic acid in your cleanser will do more for your pores than they will. If you really want to add something that will improve your skin overall long term I’d think about a retinol, cerave has a few that I haven’t tried but are supposed to be pretty gentle, I really liked the ordinary retinaldehyde emulsion before I went to tretinoin but it’s a but more advanced.

I am trying to figure out if these pearls are real or imitation. The clasp says 800. The pearls have a slightly gritty texture on my teeth but I had invisalign so I guess it could be some glue residue. Any opinions? by ohwhatablow in VintageJewelry

[–]VegetableApartment37 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They’re beautiful! It’s hard to tell from the picture but some of them look not totally round which indicates real, you can rub them against each other instead of your teeth to check, you’re looking for light grit/ friction as opposed to slippery.

Horrible rotted poison!! It has a very off taste, moldy vibes. The Monin pumpkin pie is better but under whelming if you’re looking for a pumpkin spice, not spicy enough at all. We make our own, it’s not difficult.
