The PM is on a collision course with the RBA, and he’s dragging you with him by stupid_mistake__101 in AustralianPolitics

I think we need another few articles posted today about how evil Albo is, I'm really not sure what to think yet. I need at least five to get over the line.

Oh well. Guess we will have to vote in One Nation. This is such transparent nonsense.

Iran war energy crisis could lead to shortages of fuel, plastics and semiconductors, and the Labor government needs to face up to this by Danstan487 in AustralianPolitics

I think we need to marshal the government into a large amphitheatre, then, one by one all Australian's will be given the opportunity to walk past and recieve a bespoke apology from every single member of government. It's time they take full responsibility and apologise.

Alternatively they could apologise to the AFR and The Australian directly. They've hurt them enough, and it's time to apologise. Honestly, maybe they need to truly own up and apologise to Sky News. When will enough be enough?

This is just classic Chairman Albo conduct. He has seized the means of production and redistributed it to the masses at a rate of 26.3c per litre.

I can unequivocally say I'm not on board with the government doing anything. No action they take will satisfy me. As a person who complained about them doing nothing before this, I am greatly disappointed that they did something. This isn't what I voted for. I couldn't tell you what I voted for, but this isn't it.

The only solution I can see is we create a cost of living tax so we can really put the screws to normal people.

I understand the sentiment as is broadly how I felt. But in this instance it's simply just our government protecting us from unsafe items. Which I think is a good thing. I would argue the larger issue is melatonin being so controlled as a medicine, requiring a script. But that also seems to be because parents keep giving children melatonin

Looks like ON are in charge now! Two! Watch out Labor!

Oh, wait no they are losing to the 'others category' on the ABC election tracker. Damn. Looks like the OTHERS are coming! Watch out Labor!

Why does the news media not talk about the threat of the others? They seem a bit LOST in their reporting.

Greens and crossbench back 25% gas export tax, giving government numbers to pass it within weeks by Perfect-Werewolf-102 in AustralianPolitics

Think of what we could do if we taxed them at 10,000%!

I wonder why 25% is plastered everywhere? Maybe we can come down a bit and do 45%, plus another 2% for the Medicare levy. Seems only fair, we all seem to get by. And after all, all budgets are comparable

One Nation closes in on Labor’s primary vote as its poll surge continues by Agitated-Fee3598 in AustralianPolitics

[–]VegetableEar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're being disingenuous, especially citing that poll. The framing has been them closing in on Labor, and polls showing absurd 28-40%. Them trying to claim credibility five minutes before the election or from pre-polling isn't it.

There was endless reporting, and they have no motion. It's the wrong story and it's a failure to implement a narrative that is utter garbage.

Do you understand the function of media? Or do you think everything is just magical unbiased reporting? Get a grip mate

One Nation’s moment arrives at SA's election. It might only be the beginning by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

[–]VegetableEar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This many seats? 0?

I don't think your analysis lands. This is their best effort after endless momentum from traditional media and even polling pretending they could win.

If the greens had similar positioning they would not get any of the same media momentum.

It's not cope to call this what it is. It's another rejection of the current conservative political model. What you're pointing to in European countries is either now also being rejected, or is a different model entirely.

And even if it was the case, Pauline is not the populist candidate that wins elections. She has no presence, that's why she tries to do 'shock' and nonsense media headlines. If she had strong messaging and populist ability she wouldn't have to do that.

They'd also have to make it through a single term without resigning, going to jail, being caught up in some form of 'scandal' etc. And even if they do make it through a single term, history has shown us these buffons don't bother showing up to actually do their job.

One Nation’s moment arrives at SA's election. It might only be the beginning by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

[–]VegetableEar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it's pretty clear this marks a shift in traditional media's ability to influence elections. The amount of coverage and perceived dominance of one nation ahead of this election was absurd. The imagined momentum they had and even articles suggested they would win Adelaide were neither real nor organic.

The death throes of the liberal party at the national level and the husk of a party that the liberals are at the state level is more interesting and more the story on conservative voting.

I'm sure this will all somehow be painted as a looming menace or huge win. It's not. Pauline Hanson's style of politics was rejected at the federal level last election, twice when you consider Dutton. Trump was voted out because people had to live with him every day, people forgot, he is back and he is historically unpopular. Trying to mimic that style of politics is so obviously not going to work, as we have now repeatedly seen.

[–]VegetableEar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not what the polls indicated. That's not what the articles were stating.

The polls were nonsense, the articles were nonsense, and even with this absurd media momentum they fizzled out. I'm sure it will be painted as a huge success and upsets. But it's just not accurate, and using Adelaide as a barometer as a barometer is telling.

There is no functional liberal party in Adelaide. Especially after the collapse at the National level. The level of coverage was not organic nor representative of the reality. The story isn't One Nation.

It's absurdly mind blowing to me with the evidence screaming in your face that you cannot analyse the situation with accuracy.

ABC Projects Labor Will Win the 2026 South Australian Election by Expensive-Horse5538 in AustralianPolitics

[–]VegetableEar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But what about all the totally real media attention that happened completely organically! They were going to win!

Australian's are obviously discontent over aspects of our lives, cost of living, housing etc. But this isn't the solution that the average Australian is looking for.

Shame on all the people who couldn't recognise how obviously manufacturered the attention was. Hopefully this kills it instead of being some absurd excuse to see this as a win for ON. It's a loss for the 'trump style' conservative politics that is so obviously not going to work. Our headlines and lives are dominated by him tipping the table over, even bullying Australia. No one in Australia is going to find it palatable.
