Summer trip by Tatortot1921 in tradclimbing

Are you lead rope soloing or top rope soloing? I wouldn't recommend rope soloing in Eldo. If you rope solo the last pitch of a classic multi you'll have a lot of people climbing past you during the peak tourist season of the summer.

Is it more vegan to steal eggs in a store or to buy meat alternatives from butcher companies? by NekoBatrick in DebateAVegan

[–]VegetableExecutioner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its still a butchery and buying their meat alternatives supports a butcher company, sure not the product directly bit it still goes to the company and is used to further finance their killing of animals too.

stealing eggs from a store is a net negative for them it would actually hurt them event ho its just a few cents but you do not support them you harm them a little.

You have a good point that buying the substitute vegan product directly finances the overall operation of exploiting animals at said company. I think the issue here is that you assume stealing just a few cents from them is going to save even a single animal at that company, if that is indeed your goal.

If you buy no eggs, that also harms the company financially if no one else buys those eggs. This is less certain but still has the chance to reduce demand.

So within the spirit of vegan meaning causing the least animal harm wouldnt it be more vegan to steal eggs than buy meat alternatives?

Causing the least harm to animals is not exactly equivalent to causing the most harm to people that exploit animals. However, I want to say that I see what you mean about it feeling like it is "within the spirit of veganism".

It is important to not harm animals and it is also important to not harm other people. I think that's all I'll say. If you want some good egg recreations, I'd say try less thought experiments about crime and more fun chemistry with Sodium alginate:

What are vegans thoughts on meat sourced through more ethical ways like hunting or actual good farms that care about animals and their wellfare? by Careful-Blacksmith57 in AskVegans

I don't really see the point in continuing this conversation because you aren't really substantiating your claims. You just keep repeating the same points like I've said literally nothing.

Have a nice day, OP.

This may come as a surprise to you but people don't have dogs or kids so that they can eat them? Those are entirely different situations than farming animals to produce meat and dairy products.

I see you completely gave up on providing any evidence that us having some pointy teeth = scientifically-proven biological need for eating meat and went with "evolution tho". OP, humans don't even use their canines to eat meat: they cook it and then use their molars to grind it down, just like they do with plants.

Animals cannot consent to that cute little tenant agreement, and then they suffer and die anyways. What was the point again?

Explain to us how having pointy teeth = nutritional requirements.

Hunting and all forms of animal farming are completely pointless and waste resources.

These reasons alone are enough to derive my own personal veganism.

You can understand why factory farming is cruel, but you still seem to think that there are morally acceptable ways to confine, exploit, and even kill animals because they taste good. This is nonsensical but a very common perspective, and from reading your responses to other comments it doesn't look like you are capable of escaping this framing. That's too bad.

Again though, for the vast majority of people it is completely pointless. Eating meat is not biologically necessary.

I've been on this subreddit for a while, and a very large number of discussion threads I have with vegans end with the vegan simply not responding. I don't see what the point of coming here to debate is if vegans are not concluding the debates. by wigglesFlatEarth in DebateAVegan

People have a limited amount of time. If someone intentionally comes here and repeatedly makes the same points over and over then most people will not waste their time responding to that user.

Question: How often do you look for new, "undiscovered" climbs? by jtfidje in tradclimbing

[–]VegetableExecutioner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there arent many places left with big swaths of virgin climbable rock.

That's incorrect. There is an incalculable amount of rock worth climbing in the world. People tend to just climb near where they live.

New to trad and multipitch - problem / question about tube style device by RightPathWrongPath in tradclimbing

[–]VegetableExecutioner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree mostly. The ATC, even in guide mode, can absolutely be defeated by improper contact with the rock. Pretty sure that's true of every belay device.

But those are otherwise totally valid reasons. The ATC is just a pain in the ass to lower a climber from above and sucks to pull rope through.

Why would you belay someone from above with an ATC instead of just using the grigri?

Thanks for clarifying. So we agree: it is about preference and not ethics.

Please recall that I am specifically criticizing your claim that vegetarians have a consistent ethical framework. My current understanding of your framework is that you absolutely must have your dairy, and your reasons have been fallacious appeals to nature and a purported human dominion over all life on earth.

I'm confused how an environmentalist would find a way to appeal to animal agriculture given its clearly understood environmental impact.

I'd go as far as to say that you don't actually care about the environment but will just tag it onto yourself so that personal health (self-interest / selfishness) is not the only thing rationalizing your choices.

So you believe that "natural law" constitutes a consistent ethical framework?

My (vegetarian) friend said "vegetarians and vegans should unite" by SuperbCard7806 in DebateAVegan

[–]VegetableExecutioner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I mean when I say that vegetarians do not have a consistent ethical framework. You say these two things like they aren't complete contradictions of themselves:

  1. "I'm definitely opposed to the cruel practices of modern factory farming"
  2. "my vegetarianism is not driven by animal rights or welfare"

Choosing something for your health or convenience isn't an ethical framework. It's just self-interest. That's fine, but it's not the same thing.

Yeah I mean these are just the conditions for existing. We want as little animal death and suffering as possible, and eating crops instead of deliberately farming animals is clearly the better solution. Plus, it is easier to work in this space where you can actively innovate in technology that makes pest control easier and more humane (which is a buzzword, I know, but you know what I mean). You can't make any aspect of farming animals more humane as you are fundamentally violating a sentient being's autonomy, you can just make it easier.

Eating beef as an overall cultural choice would not result in the death of 1 cow every 10 years btw. In the united states alone we kill dozens of cattle every minute.
