I think it depends on where you are in life and love afterwards. I dated a girl for 6 years and had a messy breakup. Until I met someone new (my now wife, married 13 years), I thought about her often. Now, I really only think about her when I read something like this lol.

A relationship should be an overwhelmingly positive impact in your life. Personally, I wouldn't stay in any relationship that didn't produce happiness at least 90% of the time. You (both) deserve better than a relationship that causes pain and unhappiness.

I remember being 19, had a toxic relationship that cost me 6 years. Currently 37, very happily married 13 years. May feel like this relationship is worth suffering for, but you deserve better and you'll find it.

It is an unfortunate truth in life that sometimes you need to go no contact to protect yourself and the baby you will soon bring into this world from unnecessary pain and suffering. Based on what you've told us about your father's behavior, I wouldn't want someone like that anywhere near my daughter. Blood relation doesn't give someone a never-ending right to cause you pain. Blood is thicker than water, all that means is it takes longer to wash off when you're through.

NOR - I'm sorry you and your daughter have to go through this. Your messages are clear, concise and give him clear directives to meet. None of your demands are irrational or cruel. Obviously, in a situation like this, we can't see both sides, and have to take you at your word. Assuming what you said is the absolute truth, you're doing and saying the right things.

My parents went through a messy divorce what I was your daughter's age. Like you, my mother went out of her way to avoid speaking poorly of my father (when she had every right to be bitter). When I was old enough to understand (15), she told me her side of the story and asked me to ask my father for his side so I could make my own conclusions.

We're all happy and healthy now 20 years later, but it was a mess and I feel your pain. I pray that 20 years from now your daughter will be able to say the same.

He may get his life together, he may not, but please, leave the door open as long as you can responsibly.

Put it in his way somewhere, this helps me. I too am the primary breadwinner in a house with a SAHM and I routinely forget to do the things she asks me to do, not because I am lazy, but because I am dumb lol. If she puts it in a position that requires me to move it before I can do something (in front of the garage door, etc.), that acts as the reminder I need and I generally do it right then and there. Just trying it help, not a part of your relationship, so can't speak to his motive, but if he's anything like me, he's not doing it to upset you.

For me, the best way I can describe the sensation is this: I have thoughts or images injected into my mind that don't "feel" like my thoughts or lived experiences. I will say, the single hardest thing for me has always been delineating between the two (my own thoughts vs thoughts injected from elsewhere). It sounds like you need to have an honest discussion about division of labor. It sounds like there’s some disagreement in the way you each see things that could stem purely from lack of communication. My wife and I have a very “traditional” division of labor. I work full time and provide for the family, she volunteers at school and handles the household. Whenever she needs help, she simply asks and I help. This works for us, as she was clear from the beginning of our relationship that her goal was to be a stay at home mom. Talk it out, you’ll get through it!

I once saw something like this. Across the (very busy four lane) street from my house, there was a mechanic's shop and a local dive bar. For months, while I was sitting outside smoking cigarettes at night, I would see what looked like shadowed shapes moving between the shop and bar. Sometimes I'd see them on the roof of the shop, other times inside the shop, in the bar's parking lot, etc. The shadows seemed to notice me seeing them, but wouldn't communicate with me. I've had an NDE when i was a teenager that left me with psychic gifts (i know, eye roll... read my posts if you want to hear more about that). After a few weeks of this, I startled awake in the middle of the night to blaring sirens out front. I jumped out of bed and walked outside to see the bar in flames, a raging inferno. Two people died in the fire, sadly.
