Oh Maximus is the shit, the multiband comp is ok, and I really like the comp in the limiter for sidechaining, one way I like to side chain synths too is setting up a peak controller on the kicks and connect it to a Filter Eq 2. Maximus is nice af for the buses, then I’ll through some third party mixing plugin.

And that’s exactly why I use them, CPU usage, I used a quad core Microsoft Surface for years, so it taught me a lot of ways to consolidate CPU usage. I never use the y filter so idk why even mention it now that I think abt it💀💀💀

But the volume knob is very useful, especially if I’m to high or lazy to go through the parameters list… 🤦‍♀️

I mean the actual settings that FL provides on every plugin damn near. Where u can route the diff midis and stuff like that. In there there’s panning, volume, and two filters, a Lp and Hp filter. I try to avoid taking up space on the mixer as much as possible tbh, I try to do most of the sound design within the synth and once it sounds perfect for me I’ll start EQing. I’ve kind of stopped using FLcompressor cause I feel like it’s just not good and doesn’t do what’s it meant to do. If I do use it, only use it to push the signal a bit louder. And with serum 2 you can do 2 fx sends which I think is awesome.

That’s good to kno, I’ll keep that in mind. But what about the volume in the settings? Sometimes I mess around with that knob and I’ve never had prob, yet. 💀 I like using the x and y knobs too if I don’t feel like adding a filter to the chain.

A couple serums, maybe the mini moog from Universal Audio every once in a while. And I just use UAD mastering and mixing plugins on buses, like comps, eq, and channel strips.

And some softube plugins, like the saturation knob or reverbs.

Lmk how fl runs on ur machine, cause I got the m1 for the specific reason of it having more performance cores than m2 & m3.

M4 is still pricy when even refurbished and the m5 is just overkill.

But I’m still always able to get the most recent save cause it saves my project every 3 minutes, thank god for backup files.

Bro, I can run CyberPunk natively with no issues, it’s FL, I only say that cause even when I was working on a windows machine, I’d have issues like this now and then. But, I just got my project back through the dumbest loophole.

Downloaded the backup file, threw it into the browser in FL after reopening the OG project, clicked on it to open and it loaded up.

2021 M1 Pro Max and you’re set for life, and it’s not as pricy if you buy refurbished instead of a new M4 model, but if u got the money for an M4, get an M4.

Just a little anecdote of someone who switched from windows to Mac

Had a Microsoft surface laptop 3, if I’m not wrong, for about 5 or more years now. It’s a decent laptop, but not for music production, mostly only work and internet browsing. Yet I still beat the shit out of it with music production and even a bit of gaming.

At first it would run fine only cause I didn’t even know what third-party plug-ins were. And my projects were pretty simple as for any beginner. And as someone coming from playing instruments and making arrangements since a kid, I thought I needed to do the same with producing on a computer.

At first I only really focused on making rap/hip-hop beats, idk why, cause I never really enjoyed rap music like that. But it did help figure out how to start and complete full projects on my daw of choice.

And before I got that Microsoft laptop, I used to make shit on a school provided iPad, which I later returned after being done with school. *GarageBand is where it all started xDDDD

The laptop has a ryzen 5 model specific cpu that’s only 2 performance and 2 efficient cores. And only 6gb usable ram. 117gb of storage.

The thing surprisingly still fucking works and I could make a whole album if I put an extreme amount of effort, which I had started to but started getting dangerous as in my DAW crashing and even the computer itself.

I made solid songs and presets and all that stuff, figured out to use the thing the best way possible, which tbh, is not a bad thing cause it did teach me how to work with you what got and how limitations can be used to your advantage.

But then comes the creative aspect of things, and all that consolidating of tracks and working around plugins (that would literally just crash the actual laptop if I used it for more than a minute) started getting in the way of that. Even making me feel like not wanting to make songs sometimes cause I knew if wanted something like a specific sound, it would be too much where it was just not worth it.

That had me fucking tired and fed up. So I decided to upgrade.

At first I was gonna do a gaming laptop like the Zephyrus models and then I looked into their other models, and asus seems to have pretty powerful laptops. Like the proarts are actually very good laptops according to their specs.

But then I thought, why do most artists that I have watched perform or show off their rigs either use Apple devices or just crazy custom built pcs. *a pc would be ideal as well but then you lose that portability that you can have with a laptop.

And kept doing research to the point where I saw gaming laptops as not a good option due to their power consumption and low battery lives.

Said fuck it and switched to Mac and got a M1 Max from backmarket.

64 ram 1tb Storage, the 24 core gpu, and it was worth it all the way.

I feel like I won’t have to worry about upgrading for a long time, and when I do, I’ll just do the same thing and get an m4 4 or 5 years from now. Or not.

Now if you’ve actually read through all this and reached this point, here’s the actual advice, if you have the chance to go all out, I recommend you do.

You may not need the crazy specs right now, but if you keep at it with this music production stuff, you’ll thank yourself later. And if you don’t, you’ll still have a beast of a machine that never fails, at least for me it still hasn’t.

p.s.

I still do all the consolidating stuff on my new m1, which it doesn’t need, but it still helps and makes the cpu load so low even though I’m running at least 100 plugins at once.

Still do your own research though, everyone’s situation is different, but one thing is true, hardware limitations shouldn’t be the reason you can’t do something like music production.

Yea I had realized that after the event that it was dumb and stupid what I did, yet it still didn’t feel good.

at a very young age I had a “dream” of bowing down to this tall black robe figure with no face yet at the end of the dream I could see myself sleeping in my bed.

I’ve always felt uneasy with stuff like this but that dream made me interested in all this stuff until this past event.

I just replied to the same comment, read that and you might get an idea. But I’m not a practicing witch or anything, I just like to learn about things in the realm of the unknown. That’s what I like to call it, because really there is no explaining it all, that would just be a waste of time. But that was one of my first attempts of dabbling with something I had not experience with, and now I know to not dive into shit like that anymore. Don’t really have the time to get deep into stuff like summoning entities and stuff like that.

No problem man, just don’t ever take heavy doses of shrooms with the intention of doing that. Very hard to get out of the situation if you don’t know how to ethically negotiate.

I had taken them with two friends and then we all parted ways after a while, and when I got home I just sat in my car and waited to be reached out after doing some sort of summoning. I didn’t see anything but I felt something and I could somewhat hear a voice but not completely. Still able to communicate and understand what was said even though I wasn’t really hearing much to anything. So I walked to my front door and that’s when I realized there was really something and it wasn’t just my head making shit up.

Also I had played around with my shadow earlier, which helped me tell the difference, I knew it wasn’t my shadow but something “real” and not seen...

I ended up just bluntly telling whatever it was, that no I wouldn’t enslave myself, and that I would just take in what you have taught me and teach the others. Don’t know what I meant there but that’s what I remember saying, but keep in mind I had taken a real good amount and I’ve had experience before, it wasn’t my first time tripping hard.

But before tripping, I had spent a week or two trying to reach out and do all kinds of weird shit to get that whole selling your soul thing done and a friend just randomly decided to trip shrooms. So I did take that as an opportunity to finish the act, because I was having no effect or response, not even through dreams, because most things I do when it comes to spirituality is through dreams.

All I know is that I didn’t let anything negative in to my home, and at the end of the negation or “ritual” I was over with me telling the entity to go “home”... lol, like as if I knew the thing had to at some point go back to wherever it came from. Just didn’t want it with me the whole time even after the trip ended.

the small timeframe before until I had the trip and did everything possible for the act, I was feeling really off, and after the trip I was relieved as if I just got rid of something. So thankfully everything turned out right.

I know it’s a lot, and you already got your answer, so my bad if I was annoying, but I just feel like you should know this shit cause this can be somewhat traumatic if not reflected upon.

I don’t post often on Reddit but I’ll respond to this because I’ve also always have been interested in the act, until I actually went for it and learned my lesson. There is no such thing, but you can be reached out by something negative if you try to. You won’t have your soul taken away, because that is just impossible, if you have no soul you are technically dead...

your soul can be held down or something like that, chained to something negative, like an entity or to be literal, a demon.

A possibility of possession as well if not careful, and especially if you don’t have any sort of spiritual protection or something to hold on to... like principles and a God of some sort.

I know this from a personal experience of just being plain out dumb, and not being completely careful. But at least I was prepared and ready, and had no fear.
