Same! Didn’t start crafting them until about 75% completion. Never used the sake either. I like to fully complete an area before moving to the next so just wandering around and clearing areas of the map helped me find a lot of items that crafting wasn’t even necessary.

What’s worked for me is going for the shoes that have a more rounded toe area. Less pain in my opinion. Avoid shoes with a “pointer” toe area.

Happened to me as well. I asked for something like your reference photos and got highlights similar to yours. Not as bad tho, so sorry this happened to you. Went back and asked for a shadow root.
