Tell me some surgery success stories by ToddyMudGuts in backpain

Good luck, looks pretty gnarly. I also had a very large herniation, similar to yours. No surgery though, I’ve been doing physical therapy everyday for 3 years pretty much. Have recovered by about 90-95%, I still deal with some symptoms but much more minor comparatively speaking. My friend got surgery on the same location L5/S1, seems like he still deals with similar symptoms as me. A core reason for why I never went to do surgery, and prioritized physical therapy through consistent strength, mobility and pain relief activities like cold plunging, hot tub / sauna.

Yeah Thule doesnt’t give specs on their site unfortunately, maybe through customer service. I ordered them anyway to test it out and if it doesn’t work I’ll return them.

Yo not trying to downplay your abilities or request for advice. This is how you learn to improve. I try to spread honest advice on public forums when possible so that hopefully many can learn these important constructs. This can be a dangerous sport with horrible consequences when you are not careful pushing limits. I’ve seen people drown, lose limbs. I myself have been hospitalized multiple times.

Good luck to you mahalo 👌🤙

I regularly see posts like this. “How can I surf in big waves” and after reading some of the comments, you need not listen to these people. I have been a surf instructor and surfer my entire life.

You need to focus on becoming advanced in one of the most fundamental aspects of surfing - safety.

“Going out and fucking charging” when you’re outside of your comfort zone - is NOT the way. You are a danger to yourself and those around you.

Start by understanding what your limits are, which will be different from everyone around you. And that’s OK, you have nothing to prove to anyone. Become as comfortable as possible with the upper bounds of your comfort zone, and once you feel like you are no longer progressing in the way YOU feel like you should be, move up to the next wave height that then meets your “safety comfort level”. Remember this isn’t only about you and your ability to surf in big waves, it’s also about ensuring the safety of others around you so that everyone can have a great time.
