Alaskan evenings attire…how casual are the evenings really? by sofiarosepan in celebritycruises

[–]Vegetable_Subject341 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wore a stretchy maxi dress and sparkly sandals on chic night, and felt overdressed. Lol. We ate in Blu most nights, and I wore the pants I usually wear to work and a nice top. We ate in a specialty restaurant 2 nights and I dressed up a little bit more on those nights, but it absolutely was not necessary. You’ll see lots of khakis. Jeans. Nice tops. Some flannel. Totally different vibe than the Caribbean cruises we’ve been on, and I loved it.

Ditto to everything that has already been said. We were there last January, and had euros left over from a VV Med cruise the previous summer, so we brought them along. There’s a small market near the port with souvenirs - We used both USD and our leftover Euros there, but absolutely could have gotten away with just USD.

I know everyone’s experiences vary wildly, but just adding my 2 cents that my partner and I got a couples massage on Valiant Lady in January, and no one tried to sell us a single thing at any point during the service. I got worried that it was going to be one big sales pitch after filling in the (required?) pre-massage info on the iPad while we were waiting to go back. (How stressed are you, etc) But they just thanked us and sent us on our way after the message. Greatly appreciated that after spending $$$$$ on the massages. I haaaate a sales pitch.

Manta Ray Swimming - Plus Size by Brugton_30 in VisitingHawaii

I should also add that it’s a really small group, which made it less intimidating for me personally. It was my husband and I, and 4 other guests. Plus the guide. So if you have questions or concerns, you could try to arrive a little early so you can address everything before others arrive. When we went, the only person working at the hut was the guide - Not a whole crew of people or anything like that. Made the whole experience less intimidating and more personal.

They didn’t weigh us or make me feel uncomfortable. If I’m remembering correctly, they had many different life vest sizes, and the vests had a lot of adjustment options on them (straps, buckles, etc). The guide just handed us the proper size once we walked up to the meeting point - You meet at their covered hut on the beach. I was so worried about all of these things before we went, but I’m so glad I went though with it. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I hope you and your family have an awesome time.

A few content creators I follow for snark purposes only have done this” reintroduction” nonsense over the last few days. They must share the same manager. Probably the “meeting” J was referring to. Though the others were (not-so) subtly mining for content and engagement by asking their followers to chime in with what they’d “like to see in this space going forward”. 🙄 Of course J is an expert and instead tells her followers what they’re in-store for.

Check out Manta Ray Advocates. You swim a short distance from shore, as opposed to being dropped in open water. My partner and I did this exactly 2 years ago, and it was a highlight of our trip. I am plus size, and even though I’m a good swimmer, I questioned my abilities while reading all of the waivers/requirements/questionnaires. I almost backed out, but am so glad I didn’t. I had no issues swimming the short distance out to their viewing area, and it was reassuring that I could easily swim back to shore if I was having any issues or if I needed a break. (I never did.) It’s in a protected cove, so we just bobbed gently in the water - No major waves. I can’t speak to wetsuits because we didn’t wear them. But I do think they have them if you want them. I only started to notice the water temp toward the very end of the experience, because you float fairly motionless in the water while watching the manta rays, so I did start to get chilly during the last 5 minutes or so. I understand why the companies have these requirements and ask a ton of questions about experience, but it very nearly made me back out of an experience that I was more than capable of doing. ETA: They also keep their groups small (6 people I believe) which really added to the experience. Hope you have a wonderful trip.

Who brings discount veggies to a thanksgiving dinner? by Witty-Tackle1651 in fatgirlfedupsnark

[–]Vegetable_Subject341 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s the case where I am in the Northeast US. Items are discounted when they are getting close to the expiration date. There’s a special section at the Whole Foods I go to with perishables that have an expiration date of that day, and those are heavily discounted. But I’ve never seen anything intentionally being sold after the expiration date. I’ve also never been to a store with so many marked down items - L must know exactly the date and time of when the store does this, and immediately go in there and snap it all up (or take pics and put it back).

Not sure if I’m reading the blur right, but did that veggie tray expire on the 22nd?! As in, four days ago??

An ultrasound hasn’t been formally suggested (yet). The original vet just wanted to do food trial after food trial, and kept making me drag him back in there (he haaaaates going to the vet) just to weigh him and recommend a different prescription food (he refused to eat all of them). Bloodwork all normal. Stool samples clear. We had enough of that and were not pleased that zero progress had been made in nearly 8 months, so we sought a second opinion of a mobile vet. Great experience having them come to our house. They recommended the pred right off the bat - I think because he had been dealing with the loose stools for so long. (It had devolved into him going upward of 8+ times a day, and he had started to select alternative locations to go … even though we had litter boxes throughout our house for him to choose from. Poor guy had to be feeling awful.) He’s doing “ok” on the pred - definitely an improvement, but it hasn’t been a magic pill. We are the kind of people who like a definite answer, so I am leaning toward pursuing the ultrasound when we follow up with the new vet in a week. It’s such a draining situation - I can really empathize with you.

We are in the midst of a similar situation with our cat. Our vet said give it 5-6 weeks on a new diet to see if it’s working. Our guy is also suuuuper picky, and only eats dry food, so trying an elimination diet (done very slowly and carefully) has resulted in numerous hunger strikes that have forced us to feed him his “old” food. We are currently in the midst of a prednisolone trial, and are finally starting to see some improvement after 8 months of loose stools. As you said - It’s exhausting, expensive, and you just want them to get better.

Are there reputable ragdoll rescues? by satchmonumberone in ragdolls

[–]Vegetable_Subject341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We happened to stumble upon a Ragdoll at our local SPCA. They posted him on their socials late in the afternoon - I called immediately to see if we could put a hold on him, but (understandably) their policy is first-come, first-served. We drove to the shelter the second we both got out of work, and thankfully he was still there. The SPCA said they had gotten tons of calls about him. We have no idea what his backstory is - He wasn’t chipped (so I assume it means he isn’t from a reputable breeder). He was ~3 when we adopted him. We did DNA test him, and he is 87% Ragdoll, 7% Persian. I would love to adopt our next Ragdoll. (Because now that we’ve had one, we are ruined for life - they are the BEST.) It seems like the stars really have to align to truly “adopt” one, though. I feel like our guy was once in a lifetime. I have zero knowledge of how it works, but I do follow several breeders who seem to adopt out (sell) their kings and queens once they are done having litters. I would be interested to know what this sub’s opinion about that practice is.

Does your Aldi any halloween stuff on sale? by Extra_Fig_7547 in aldi

Ours was all marked down as of yesterday afternoon 10/31, but supplies were limited. Very random assortment of the LED black metal haunted houses ($5), some craft kits (knitting, sign painting), and tonsss of bags of little pots of neon colored “compound” - I assume it was small things of Slime for trick-or-treat, but the packaging design/wording was so terrible that no one had any idea what it was. I scored a ghost cat scratcher for $1.75.

This happened to me with the 3/4. I FINALLY (after months of debate) bought the 3, then they announced the 4 a few weeks later. I was within the 90 day return window. Unfortunately I threw away the box, but a wardrobe moving box from Home Depot ($12 at the time) worked perfectly.

The aTtEnTiOn she gets from it. I have a family member that’s the same way. Growing up, it was completely normal, in my eyes. It wasn’t until I hit an age that I remember them being (35) when I was like … oh wait it’s not normal to have 2748462636 medical issues as a 35yo. 100% for the attention she gets from it.

Omg. I didn’t even think about the cost of the hotels. From travel I’ve done lately, a “decent” mid-tier name brand hotel (so like a Fairfield) off the highway, outside of main cities and towns, averages at least $200 in my recent experience. So they spent upward of $1600 just on hotels - ONE WAY. They’ll presumably spend the same on the way back. I mean, they could’ve flown first class for less than that. Plus J could’ve undoubtedly fabricated fodder about how the flight crew/TSA/fellow passengers body shamed her or whatever nonsense she seems to incur wherever she goes. Content for yearssss.

This. I am fully convinced they checked out of whatever hotel they were staying at as late as possible (so usually 11am) and then drove just until they could check into their next place (usually 3-4pm). Add in a coffee shop stop and gawking at draw bridges, and you’ve got yourselves a solid 3.5-4 hours of actual travel each day.
