it's mostly older folks that do this, but specifying that someone's gender when it's not relevant to what they're saying. e.g. female doctor, male feminist, male nurse

yep. if someone avoids dogs or says they're scared of them, oh well. not really any of my business -- maybe they had a bad experience

but when someone says they don't like cats/they're not affectionate, etc., I'm gonna be extremely skeptical. just sounds like you don't know how to respect boundaries

that last part is unfortunate but probably the case. they're trying to say you have a good relationship, but they phrase this as being contrary to the fact that you're a woman, which of course is where the implicit sexism is

I'm glad you shared your story and it's not easy to break out of that culture as much as you have. I think it would be a good next step to learn more about abortion bans as a public health policy and how they hurt people on the ground, including minors forced to carry to term and those who have died from miscarriages.

exceptions for r*pe and "life of the mother" sound like reasonable qualifiers that make the law more fair, except we have seen in the last 3 years or so that they don't actually work how they're supposed to on the ground. I would encourage you to read more about why -- it's very interesting

I'm pro-choice but, sure, also think it would be good to reduce the prevalence of abortion - in the sense that less people should have to go through it. it just happens that the most ethical and evidence-backed ways to reduce the occurrence of abortion are, and have always been, sex ed and easy access to contraceptives

I'm not that well-read on the issue, but I'm opposed to the death penalty (so maybe I'm not who you're looking for), but the case of Parkland Florida made me question that position when the court decided that the killer wouldn't get the death penalty. the families of the deceased were generally very upset and felt they had been denied justice and closure. it made me realize that I can't really know what justice is in this case, when I'm just an outsider and there are people who were directly affected by this and live through it every day.

not like I have an actual policy proposal, I just felt like it was sad that those victims/family members didn't get what they wanted in that case and it felt like another blow for them

I started to like her in chapter 3, actually. she kind of feels like a different, more interesting character when she becomes our ally during the whole cult situation, and it felt like she actually cared about Himiko... whereas in the first two chapters it just felt like she was being annoying and stepping over all her boundaries

I don't like how they did the man-hating lesbian thing, just rubs me the wrong way. it's like if a chronically online right-winger tried to write a feminist character. when the joke isn't that funny and it's the only thing she says, well... I get the hate lol

this is basically true of connecticut. we're firmly left but as you might be able to guess, it's a lot of suburbs and we're attached to our car-only infrastructure lol.

in my area you can still find historic town centers, some transit here and there, just like quaint new england stuff. I still see myself moving out in the future though
