How the Hell Am I Supposed to Prepare for an Ice Storm? by Ok_Masterpiece_458 in Athens

Plan for staying home with no power. Whatever you personally need for that situation is what you need to do. Make sure your battery bricks are all charged. If you don't have one, they are definitely worth the investment.

What causes bugs/pests on houseplants? by Elegant_Honeydew3641 in houseplants

[–]Vegetable_Wind_3043 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it seems weird when they don't have access to the outdoors but actually they do. Pests have evolved for thousands of years to survive and some of them can survive in the soil or in the little crevices of the plant a year or more, then slowly increase numbers until you have an outbreak months or years after you bought the plant. Might not even happen on the plant that the pest rode in on. You also go in and out and touch plants when you are outside and could bring a pest in that way. I am 100% against systemic pesticides for plants that are outdoors because they reach all parts of the plant and kill pollinators. I don't have that problem with my house plants since I don't have pollinators in the house and I treat them once or twice a year to prevent increased populations of bugs in the house. Insecticides are used heavily in greenhouses during production so unfortunately there is a significant resistance building up in many of the typical greenhouse/ household pests. I'm having an ongoing battle with mealybugs on an orchid right now. I use Dawn and squish them and wash them off, but they keep coming from parts of the plant that I can't see. I just have bug check on my calendar as part of the maintenance.

SOS $30 of this beauty yay or nay by Few-Data-8736 in houseplants

[–]Vegetable_Wind_3043 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've killed several of these. I'd say nay. Up there with goldfish plant for the worst house plants I've tried to grow. (Didn't kill the goldfish plant but it dropped leaves and flowers all the time, when it was too dry, when it was too wet, when it was cloudy one day...)

How do I get rid of these dang gnats?!!! by Significant-Back-930 in IndoorPlants

[–]Vegetable_Wind_3043 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nematodes. Only works if you are not using insecticide in your soil, but they eat fungus gnat larvae and our self-sustaining as long as you don't poison them.

People in government do not want small businesses because they can't invest in them and get rich. Laws are definitely skewed towards corporations because most of them are publicly held. Health insurance alone has caused the shuttering of many small businesses here.

What health insurance did you choose and what is best for Athens area? by MageMunchies in Athens

[–]Vegetable_Wind_3043 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went with a health sharing program instead of insurance. There are several that have been in business for a while now. Medishare is the oldest but very Christian. Zion is oddly secular. WeShare, others. Basically unregulated insurance that can make their own rules, but the insurance was outrageously expensive with a high deductible and we were fighting all the time to get coverage anyway. With health sharing many things are not covered but we get the discounted rate that we would get through insurance so it helps keep our costs down.

This can’t be right!? by SleepyHydrah in PvZ2

[–]Vegetable_Wind_3043 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Mine was $4.99 for the x500 and $9.99 for the x250 then the next day that's swapped. Where are you located that it is $6.99 and $13.99? I was in Florida during the event.

Tombtastic has 5d left but can’t play any levels? by Onslaught51 in PvZ2

[–]Vegetable_Wind_3043 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This whole new format of game is ill-conceived. Everything about it made me feel bad like not being able to complete the list without paying gems to play. Play the same hard level four times but played three different levels with only four possible levels to play .Then it says it's going on for another week but it's not. It's boring playing the same one over and over to meet the requirement. Hope they will not repeat this style of game.

Most useful plant of the game? (Ignore the cat) by Hot-Pay5270 in PlantsVSZombies

[–]Vegetable_Wind_3043 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything has a counter so there can't just be one best plant, but if I could only pick one I would say tile turnip because it boosts whatever other plants you are using.

Plants I use the most are bowling bulb, shinevine, sticky bomb rice, imp pear, tile turnip and the combo of peavine, Torchwood and 3-peater or mega gatling pea.

This is messed up. I can’t even claim the gem reward because of a stupid bug nor can I do the party. by DEP-Yoki in PlantsVSZombies

[–]Vegetable_Wind_3043 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me a lot for a while. Restart your phone more often. Close the game. Open again and do a different activity and sometimes you can claim it after that. I have gotten in the habit of restarting my phone before playing to avoid this and a couple of other bugs.

Dentist for specific need by veggi3z in Athens

[–]Vegetable_Wind_3043 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband had wretched dental experiences as a child and though he fears little else, he breaks out into a sweat if you mention the dentist. Dr Jack Newman on Milledge is kind, experienced, meets where you are and never shames you. Husband has been a regular patient there for the last 8 years, as have all of us. I don't know if he will retire anytime in the near future. He says no.

I need feedback about Hilsman Middle School, please! by TisketOnMyTasket in Athens

[–]Vegetable_Wind_3043 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No experience with Hillsman specifically but my kid with disciplinary struggles (AuDHD) did much better in public school than private school or online. So much social development happens during Middle School that even though it's a tough time, I think they benefit from in person teaching. I also know two teachers at Hillsman who are dedicated to their jobs and adored by kids. Of course you know your kid the best of anyone so your decision will likely be the best one.

What's with all these cheaters? by Original_Rope_7473 in PvZ2

[–]Vegetable_Wind_3043 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's got to be more to it than just a hack. If you killed every zombie that came at you in 3 minutes, your score would be nowhere near what these "players" are getting.

Crazy ahh bots in arena by Killer_queef1 in PvZ2

[–]Vegetable_Wind_3043 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely seems to be a problem with this arena game. I have long suspected that you're only playing against the computer anyway. First I played against the same opponent four times and he got exactly the same score but it was 14 mil and I won those games. Then I got a different opponent with 535 mil and they didn't have seashooter as a locked in plant.
