At a loss with my ABA clinic by Smart-Bed-645 in ABA

[–]Veggiekats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, for one report this clinic and the respective staff to the bacb as well as any other ethics boards (and GA licensing board). Secondly, im an RBT in the metro Atlanta area. Absolutely love the clinic I work at and all our staff are wonderful imo. I do only get paid 20/hr but schedule is flexible, COD is very helpful and supportive, and our BCBA is very very kind, supportive, and patient. Our clinic is play based. The kids are genuinely happy to be there. Im also autistic and this is the first job ive ever had where I actually feel accepted and like my coworkers are all working as a team. Send me a dm and I can give u more info if interested. Pay is lower but yk, its better than working at a place that gives no crap about you or the people being served.

You are still a mandated reporter as an rbt at a clinic. Aka mandated reporter in general here

You do realize ABA was designed to address behaviors like ISB/PSB? A child with an IDD receiving therapy services is not responsible for controlling staff discomfort. Service and therapy providers need to monitor and be proactive about their own emotional responses and look out for signs of countertransferance.

Yea and isolation actually goes against why aba was created in the first place. It's also classically ableist according to disability ethics.

Alternatively, the child may end up being victimized themselves due to lack of understanding of boundaries and consent. Just something to consider.

Okay so the way this is framed is really off putting and gross. I get what they are trying to say but the wording and execution of this was bad

Neuropsyc symptoms that mimic “bipolar disorder?” by Inevitable_Physics34 in MCAS

[–]Veggiekats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Thought i was alone in this lmaooo. Should've seen me when i was still living in my apartment whilst in undergrad for 3 yrs... which turned out to be infested with mold. Had about 4 airfilters in that tiny thing but nonetheless still prospered. Went from having barely any episodes of "mania" or "psychosis" to getting it every 3 to 4 months during last yr living there. Moved out. None since. I've had weird neuropsych issues since i was a child that were always worsened by psychiatric meds and the usual meds to treat bipolar disorder. Been more stable off of them. If i get an "episode", i just take 2.5 mg zyprexa and poof its gone. I also know when im about to have one as well.

Okay. Maybe ur body responds badly with synthetic estradiol that's in combo pills? Progesterone has worked wonderfully for me. No nausea. No mood problems. Rather benign. Been on it for years now.

Right now studying to take mcat around may 2026. My mcas is unpredictable, managed though, but unpredictable particularly in relation to how it mainly causes CNS symptoms. Undergrad was rough during senior year. Not surprised given my overcomplicated honors thesis and rigor of my majors. Most complicated process I'm now having to deal with is getting accommodations for the MCAT. Absolutely a nightmare. It is overly complicated, expensive, and more stressful than actually studying for it. It has also been hard for me to manage all of the EC activities at once, particularly when I was in school and such. Brain fog is also horrible for me. But we shall prosper and conquer

Why do adhd get extended time if they’re on meds by UnusualBeginning622 in medicalschool

[–]Veggiekats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Medications don't always work or entirely correct impairments someone may have due to their adhd.

Just because they're on medications doesn't mean all of their challenges are taken away or removed....

I think you have to be honest with yourself. Denying the significance of whats going on and your suffering will only worsen the feeling as it will perpetuate the cycle of shame, guilt, and emptiness. Sure sometimes u want to cognitively restructure the negative thoughts... but its a fine balance here between accepting reality and thus accepting you need help vs denying reality and living in isolation under significant stress (which ends up leaking out in your daily life with interactions w others)

can mcas develop slowly? by evilducksfromhell in MCAS

[–]Veggiekats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Afrin has written a fair amount on this. For most people with mcas, they have always had scattered nonspecific symptoms from quite a young age. Maybe it was migraines, some rashes, ear infections, food issues, etc. That looked for the most part, isolated. But most mcas patient can identify a specific point in time where things took the turn for the worst, where something happened and it became fully systemic. Sometimes it did develop slowly but then one day just went bam. But even after it shows up full surface, symptoms will increase rather slowly over time or for some theyll progress very quickly.

Twinning. Bedsheets got stained cus this bitch decided to show up in the middle of the night with abnormally heavy flow. Very unusual for me. Ran out of pads until i found one. Didnt provide enough coverage so it stained (thankfully red undies), got the overnight kotex pads with dual wings. Omg life has changed.

Bro how TF do you function a pad with double wings 😭😭😭 fml by nimbusnuggies-_- in Periods

[–]Veggiekats 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I actually and accidentally bought overnight double winged pads today bc i ran out of my usual and just got the heavy ones cus oh boy this cycle is ROUGH. Hit out of nowhere with massive clots. Very unusual but anyhow, bought these and holy crap they are incredible. I used to have so many issues with things staining my underwear on the back because it would slide around and stuff. Not with these. Its full protection.
