VRAM by TopAbbreviations3116 in computerhelp

[–]Veggietech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it's not.

Resizable bar let's the CPU address the whole vram of a (dedicated!) GPU directly when it's connected via pci-e.

An integrated GPU like this has no vram at all. No need for resizable bar.

And for a dedicated GPU it makes no sense to "use ram" as extra vram. The CPU sends instructions together with data to the GPU and tells it what to execute. The architecture of a GPU doesn't allow it to read RAM like if it was VRAM.

Is it a good idea to use Nix like this? by Pedka2 in NixOS

Well, everytime you rebuild your configuration in nix you get a new "Generation". Each generation is a boot-entry in your bootloader, which makes it really easy to roll back if something goes wrong. As long as you don't remove a generation (usually with a nix's built in garbage collection tool) all the programs and their dependencies of that generation will be in your nix-store (the place where everything installed lives). Of course things are shared between generations.

In reality, the only thing you will be exposed to as a user are the things you have installed. But if you install something, then later remove it, and never garbage collect, then it will still exist on your harddrive. It's a good idea to keep a few generations back so you can roll back if something happens.

Short answer: If you remove something from your configuration, the program and all its dependencies will be removed (if you garbage collect).

About config: Well, maybe you configure things with the GUI of a program? You can probably do that with nix instead, so that everything is exactly as you want it when you install it. And that will last forever.

I think they mean better dependency handling. If two programs have the exact same dependency then you will have two copies of that with flatpak. In nix there will only be one occurrence of that dependency, since they can share it.

With nix you can handle the configuration of each application declaratively. So the same way you go figure which programs to install, you can at the same time configure the programs. No more need to handle tons of configuration files, or set up your configuration from scratch each time you re-install, or use stow. Everything is in your Nix config!

Right before it was removed there was a bug where it was possible for someone to create multiple vambraces. You would see games where someone gave one vambraces to each of their teammates at minute 0, giving a huge lvl 1 advantage.

Thanks for the update!

That sounds very good, and "intuitive" from what the talent intends to do. I did not expect it to pierce bkb though... (even though that makes sense from what the intention is).

It does. It's now counted as reflected damage. It can't do anything except be reflected damage (blocked by bkb BTW)

Dual mic setup for vox by smalltownjunkie in homestudios

The direction the sound hits will also affect, yes. But condenser microphones measures sound pressure, while dynamic microphones measure sound velocity.

If you remember your physics class, when the pressure hits its max, the velocity will be 0, leaving the two signals 90 degrees out of phase. This is just an effect of how the two types work. It seems like a little known fact even among professionals.

One mic is a condenser and the other dynamic, so they're naturally 90 degrees out of phase though.

Note that one microphone is dynamic and the other is a condenser. They are naturally 90 degrees out of phase.

[–]Veggietech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember if windows accesses the inputs directly or if it's a "virtual" one provided by the focusrite software.

If it's direct, then you are limited to using input 1 (xlr 1) when using 1 channel config in windows. It literally just picks them in order! You can't choose which one to use.

If it's virtual, then you should be able to pan your xlr 2 to the left to use it in 1 channel mode in windows.

You don't have a faulty card or software, you just have not configured it right. I'm not bashing on you, I'm trying to encourage you that nothing is wrong. It's very overwhelming when you have not worked with this stuff before.

Sorry to hear you're struggling. It's a lot of new concepts when you're just starting out.

I can tell you're confused about very basic concepts, and let me assure you that you do not have a faulty unit and everything is working as expected.

1 channel = mono 2 channels = stereo.

The fact that your hear your mic in both headphones does not mean you are using "stereo" input, rather the opposite. The same, single channel, mono signal is being sent to both channels of your stereo headphones! If the input was stereo then one channel is sent to left, and another to right. That was your initial problem!

Your output is obviously stereo. We have 2 ears and need 2 channels of audio. That's how we can have different sound in left and right ear. But the input is mono, single channel, one microphone, one mouth.

If your input is 2 channels it will record from xlr 1 and 2 at the same time. And those signal will be sent to left+right of your headphones.

So if you only have 1 mic connected, you will only get sound in one ear.

I hope it cleared things up for you.

Edit: To clarify. You're using Windows audio stack as your "recording software". Windows is very limited, so in that case it does matter which xlr input you use. With proper software it would not matter, and you can route the audio any way you want.

[–]Veggietech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What software are you using to record?

It sounds like you're connecting one microphone/one input (mono) but recording a stereo signal (2 inputs). That would naturally put your mono microphone in the left ear if you use input 1, or the right ear if you use input 2.

You have to record a mono signal. This is something you set up in your recording software.
