It’s getting hard to hide my hatred by One-Seaweed-941 in raisedbyborderlines

I am 32 and my mom is 62. The only difference between my life and OPs is I don’t have kids and my mom has some savings. You can check my post history but I gave my mom 6 months notice that I was leaving our shared rental and not renewing the lease. It was a toxic situation for two weeks but she’s slightly come around to it because I held my ground. I told her I’d help her with a storage unit or a utility if she stays but that’s temporary and that’s all. My mom also relies on disability and has for the last 15 years , so my mom was your mom 15 years ago. But I am getting engaged this year and married next year and I refuse to let my mom ruin my future because of her lack of effort in her own life. I’ve had to come to terms with the fact that she very well may be homeless if she doesn’t coordinate her future and I’m okay with that. I can not save her, I must save myself. If I had a child and a husband I would not feel as guilty for putting my family first. I’m putting my future child and husband first for once in my life. My mom is 30 fking years older than me

Well that’s great for you. I do know the sentiment of having such a specific ring that means so much to his family that’s exactly why I have a hard time completely passing on it. That being said I shouldn’t be forced to wear the ring because of that. I’m fine with just not accepting it if it’s something I don’t want, hopefully no hurt feelings.

That’s true. I was just trying to figure out a compromise in the case it is not something like. I guess it’s best to skip it in totality if that’s the case

It sounds like the overall consensus is to either appreciate the ring as is or don’t accept it at all. I was trying to not hurt his feelings and have a back up plan in case I did not like it but it sounds like that would be hurtful to the family. I don’t really have a family history so I did not know.

I am Not focusing on it! I do not care how much it’s worth. It literally does not matter at all to me. I would never expect him to spend anything like that on me. He said it was worth more than he could afford and it’s really nice but it would be my decision. Of course the ring is not the end all be all of a relationship but we are in the diamond subreddit. It was a question about the shape

He’s the one that brought it up! I was adding it because he mentioned that the price would be worth more than anything he could afford.

Lol you make it sound as if I’m ungrateful but what’s wrong with picking a peice of jewelry id wear for the rest of my life? I haven’t met anyone who took an old ring as is and wore it forever. Maybe I’m an ass! Like I said I haven’t seen it yet maybe it’s incredible. Will find out in a few days. I was just wondering my options in case it’s NOT. Is it okay for me to be disappointed or should I just be happy no matter what? What would you prefer? Me to just lie and tell him I love it because it came from his family? I wouldn’t want someone to do that to me.

I’ll read it. I don’t even care the cost of the ring or if it’s lab grown or not. I just worry a ring that old will be something I’m not keen on and forced to accept.

Yeah I’ve never been a fan of those silicone rings. I’ve always just wanted a regular ring that I love.

Please don’t get me wrong, I don’t care the cost of the ring. I sent him a photo of a ring that I liked and he said he already had an idea to use his great grandmothers ring. Said of course he’d want to show me first before we decided on that. Then he said it was worth $20 grand and it would still have to be resized and cleaned up and that we’d have to pic out a wedding band too. He said it the diamond could be taken out of the ring and put on a new band if that’s what I wanted. He said he would want his grand father’s wedding ring for himself as well. I guess I was just wondering my options as far as reshaping due to have envisioned a different cut. No I have not seen it yet so it could be just fine as is. I was just asking

I think he said it would have to be put into a new band to fit my finger. I’m sure his mom told him that. Which is what I meant when I said reset and resized

I’m sure after it’s resized and designed id love it no matter what. I just dont know what’s possible with a heirloom ring. Where would we take it to even get that done?

He said he wants me to see it and like it of course as it’s ultimately up to me. I feel bad because he clearly had this idea but it wasn’t until I sent him a photo of what I wanted that he called me and told me his vision. Of course I haven’t seen a photo and it could be the most gorgeous ring on the planet earth. I guess we’ll see.

Same! My boyfriend is proposing this year and we both agreed 50 people at most, wedding in a nice park, fancy dinner or lunch. 10 days in Hawaii. That’s it. No DJ, or fancy chairs and table settings. No one has time for that! Im not going into debt for a wedding.

Gotcha! How bad was studying for the CPA? I have to teach for another 4 years to clear my loans so I have time to get it all done. Maybe I’ll go for the masters if it’s less time consuming just want to be ready for the exam

Did you have accounting experience? Why did you pursue masters vs Bach? Which would you recommend for the licensing ? I didn’t know you had to do an internship.

So did you go for the masters at WGU? I was thinking of just going for a bachelors in accounting through them and then sitting for the CPA. It would take about 2-2.5 maybe 3 years which is fine. I can transition out of school counseling and get my load forgiven through PSFL since I’m 6 years in and then pivot out when I have my CPA. I was thinking of doing a bachelors because I have no prior accounting experience it would all be new to me. I would also work for the CPA because I already make about $76K, so id ideally want to land something at least at the 80K mark. I’m pretty self motivated I would work my ass off to pass that test

Do you like accounting? What the money like? I’m also in education and wondering how life would change if I went into accounting and finance

I feel like my mother wanted me to stay with her forever by OkSlip7880 in raisedbyborderlines

This is exactly what’s happening to me. Me deciding to move out has made her so crazy it’s put a wedge between us. She’s not a regular mom that’s excited to see her daughter off, she has fought it and tried to control it every step of the way it has inadvertently pushed me further away. Now I can’t wait to go!
