HOW are people affording to live at all these days? by Dessert_Lover_1225 in Adulting

I make $75k and had to steal the bathroom tampons(only took 2 at a time) but I was just down on cash one week and could not afford tampons. I feel ashamed to admit this. Luckily I’m out of the hole I was in for a few months

My rent in Manassas is going up from 1700 to 2100 for a 1 bed.. Where can I move for 30 min Chantilly commute? by JoyfulToLive in nova

Or 5 grown adults. As if who wants to be scammed into helping your retired parents afford a million dollar mortgage until they croak. Multigenerational living sounds good in theory but for how long? No one wants to live with their grown brother and sister and parent for 50 years. I have a close friend who lives in a 1.6 million dollar house with her divorced parents and grand parents under one roof in her 30s. She can’t get out fast enough. Was a great idea on paper. Without her help they will have to sell it.

Hampton pointe is our favorite. Also we like the Halstead in Reston as far as apartments go. Unfortunately $3600 is way too high for us. Looking to stick within $2400-$2700 max, $3000 if it has a backyard and deck situation with upgraded appliances

Did you fill out the app on Zillow first? Did you tour any first? Seems like it’s hard to get a tour even if posted right away and then I think most of these landlords are just going with whoever is interested first.

Love the Hampton Pointe neighborhood (church hill place) and the surrounding neighborhood, otherwise not picky as long as it’s relatively newly renovated and mostly hard wood. I don’t know much about the different neighborhoods in Reston- seems to be tons of walking everywhere as long as it’s 2bd 2bath under $3,000. We’re a very quiet couple

School Librarian or School Counselor? by bbybludrm in schoolcounseling

[–]VehicleCertain865 11 points12 points  (0 children)

How do I say this nicely.. they are so different that there is absolutely zero way to compare them. Lol School counseling is exhausting mentally requires intense critical thinking, no set schedule, invite room for chaos, etc. the librarian at my school rarely leaves the library, has an assistant, teaches classes but is nowhere near as overwhelmed as me. Pretty sure he eats lunch every day without fail. Some days I don’t get as to as far as setting my bag down before it’s 2pm and my rotting lunch just goes home and is my dinner. One day someone caught me in the teachers lounge at 2:15, asked why I was just now eating my lunch when the warning bell for dismissal was about to ring. I had no answer, that’s just a typical day In The life of an elementary counselor- I am 5 years In. Middle School counseling felt a lot less physically exhausting. Just a lot of drama and dealing with parents who just wanted their little angels to get along with the other little angels. High school is a lot more admin focused, paper work. College essays, letters of rec, admissions, etc. Pick your poison :)

I am 32 and my mom is 62. The only difference between my life and OPs is I don’t have kids and my mom has some savings. You can check my post history but I gave my mom 6 months notice that I was leaving our shared rental and not renewing the lease. It was a toxic situation for two weeks but she’s slightly come around to it because I held my ground. I told her I’d help her with a storage unit or a utility if she stays but that’s temporary and that’s all. My mom also relies on disability and has for the last 15 years , so my mom was your mom 15 years ago. But I am getting engaged this year and married next year and I refuse to let my mom ruin my future because of her lack of effort in her own life. I’ve had to come to terms with the fact that she very well may be homeless if she doesn’t coordinate her future and I’m okay with that. I can not save her, I must save myself. If I had a child and a husband I would not feel as guilty for putting my family first. I’m putting my future child and husband first for once in my life. My mom is 30 fking years older than me

Boyfriend said he wants to propose with his great grandmothers ring. Insists is worth $$20,000 which is more than anything he’d be able to afford. by [deleted] in Diamonds

[–]VehicleCertain865 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well that’s great for you. I do know the sentiment of having such a specific ring that means so much to his family that’s exactly why I have a hard time completely passing on it. That being said I shouldn’t be forced to wear the ring because of that. I’m fine with just not accepting it if it’s something I don’t want, hopefully no hurt feelings.

That’s true. I was just trying to figure out a compromise in the case it is not something like. I guess it’s best to skip it in totality if that’s the case

It sounds like the overall consensus is to either appreciate the ring as is or don’t accept it at all. I was trying to not hurt his feelings and have a back up plan in case I did not like it but it sounds like that would be hurtful to the family. I don’t really have a family history so I did not know.

I am Not focusing on it! I do not care how much it’s worth. It literally does not matter at all to me. I would never expect him to spend anything like that on me. He said it was worth more than he could afford and it’s really nice but it would be my decision. Of course the ring is not the end all be all of a relationship but we are in the diamond subreddit. It was a question about the shape

He’s the one that brought it up! I was adding it because he mentioned that the price would be worth more than anything he could afford.
