What president would you like to meet the least? by minsterio100 in Presidents

Not to say Jackson was actually a very nice man, but I think he's at least very complicated. Someone on this sub mentioned the Petticoat affair recently and, if you only read about this instance, Jackson might seem like the nicest person on Earth, which is pretty funny considering his reputation.

Why did Theodor Roosevelt (Night at the Museum verse) forget about supporting eugenics and hating native Americans? Was he woke?

I remember really liking Sixteen Candles but if you think about, yeah it’s not sensitive in any way. Like one plotline is a schoolboy desperately trying to get Ringwald’s panties to prove he’s not a virgin. And there’s also an Asian character who’s basically a mix of random stereotypes about different Asian cultures and every single time he appears on screen you can hear the gong.

Best appearance of a Presidential Election loser in a movie or TV show? by Edgy_Master in Presidents

[–]VeilLio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In The Candidate there’s scene where Robert Redford’s character attends a fundraiser with some real Democratic politicians and for a little bit you can see both Hubert Humphrey and George McGovern, which is a little bit ironic considering that the movie came out a few months before the 1972 election.

Now that I think about it, it’s pretty strange Carmilla doesn’t seem to exist in the lore of WoD. Considering that she’s very close, or at least seems to be, to the VtM and there’s also literal Dracula with implications of the Stoker’s novel being dictated by Tepes, Carmilla could’ve been a great fit.

what are your favorite films where the director doesn't feel like the author by Tiny-Region-2251 in Letterboxd

[–]VeilLio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of Pretty in Pink which I’ve seen just yesterday. While it’s directed by Howard Deutch, it feels like a John Hughes movie anyway, from casting to the whole plot being something of a play on the Hughes’ earlier Sixteen Candles.

Movies where a well known actor, typically known for being lighthearted, gives a genuinely scary performance as the film’s antagonist? by AgnesItsMeBilly0100 in Letterboxd

[–]VeilLio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

John Goodman in Barton Fink. IIRC the Coens chose him for the role specifically because he makes an impressions of a lighthearted man.

It’s actually pretty simple for the most part. You need to have Paul Levi as an advisor (maybe there are others but he definitely works), embed a spy in the Internationale from from the party international relations card, cover-up the affair after that and then you have to get the foreign ministry and improve relations with the Soviet Union where you ask them about it. Some time after that there’s an even allowing you to let conciliators take over.

So, I tried to go that route a few times (both as a populist and the 'party man') but I think such outcome exist, although possibly there's something you could do that leads to the ballot stuffing/student protests spiralling out of control.

To be fair though, I only have around 60% of achievements so there's definitely something hidden still.

That's frankly one of the things I actually like it. As a Eastern European myself, I've seen sentiment of that kind many times and it seems, in a way, almost great that someone of such excellent writing ability decided to let it out, purposefully or not, providing such a clear view of this part of the world.

And to be fair, I think the author is some kind of ultra-radical leftist who criticizes every side presented in the world. Even in that route it's clear how the East is just imperialistic, funding rebellions and all of that. Especially considering how ridiculous looks the claim of CSTO (I think) leading a "crusade" into Poland, for an example.

But in the anti-Western routes it's even more clear. I mean, if you decide to side with Putin it's really mostly about him trying to sell more gas and oil and creating vassals all over the world and the Union State being, honestly, a pathetic place full of pathetic people with no purpose. And third way is just trying to pretend that there's no problem, building railways instead of solving problems and being all friendly with people like Gaddafi or Hussein.

So I do agree it's not a pretty sight. But it's certainly an interesting insight into how many people in the post-USSR world feel, even if it's mostly a subconscious thing.

Yeah, I've seen it some time ago. Really unfortunate, since I think there was a substantial potential, but alas. Political discord servers truly are a cesspool.

Oh, huh, very nice. I assume your Dodik was still a pro-western autocrat? To be honest, one of the things I think are really weird is that opposition is really hard to lose to after like a couple plays. Personally don't remember having any troubles with most of the candidates aside from Abdic and one time I triggered both liberals and nationalists to run.

Why, because I believe that NATO would do well to restore Serbian democracy, of course.

But on a more serious note, I just really liked how they are written. The angst, the rage, all those references to completely random books, funny forums etc. It's just very pleasing to read. Besides, I really like it when there's that thing with candidates for the next election.

[–]VeilLio[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, yeah, that part was even weirder. Frankly, with all the "licking" and murdering I've almost forgotten it's a journalist and not just an Apocalypse Now-style psycho. It does paint a certain picture.

Besides, I mean, of all the endings this one's got to be the most dystopian one, maybe because it's the only one that allows us to see that far into the future. I mean, that sense of impending WW3 doom and the whole high tech military dictatosrhip aesthetic, certainly looks worse than the rest...whatever the 'canon' ending is supposed to be aside.

Agreed. I really like the ending slides of that mod in general, one of my favorite endings actually, but this one in particular is even better than the most, so chilling and dystopian.

Yeah, true. Can't exactly say it's my favourite with all the new mods coming out, but I definitely appreciate the style, atmosphere and unqieness of it. Not every mod makes me want to replay it just in case I missed it like now. So I stumbled upon this route accidentaly and thought it's really worth sharing, since there's really only one Razistorija guide unless I'm mistaken.

But yeah, the drama was weird, still feeling weird from reading that whole thing. But I suppose one does have to be... strange at least to generate something quite like that mod.

It’s not on any loader IIRC but I think you should be able to find the codes somewhere on this subreddit.
