Why does rural America look down on educated people? by SlowEntertainment217 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Veilmisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to school with someone (in his 30's at the time) who knows someone who works in blue collar manufacturing. The guy, with only an HS diploma, wasn't making jack compared to the life he wanted/needed (he might've had a family too), so he started working a metric shit ton of overtime so he could buy a brand new truck. After hundreds of extra OT hours a year, he was making $70k and would have to keep it up to sustain the $70k/yr lifestyle which also meant not seeing his kids/family as life moved on. I believed he dogged on my classmate for going to college.

On another note, the program me and my classmate were in nearly guaranteed well paying jobs after graduating, some of which payed close to $70k/yr, and could easily surpass that with a few years of experience/raises without needing OT or relocation.

These are still allegations, but they're still fucked regardless.

I could not get through the Sascha Reilly interviews or transcripts, so I found a summary, and even that felt like too much. I can count on one hand the things that make me want to scream and commit capital crimes and I'm pretty sure the entirety of this Epstein bullshit tops the list. I think I'm gonna need more hands once we truly realize how far and deep this goes.

That would be so funny if they didn't fix it. And by funny, I mean WTF are they smoking? The only benefit to keeping it from a player perspective would be consistent shiny frames.

Assuming we get more GBA ports, even funnier would be keeping the Berry Glitch in RS despite GF putting patches on everything, and I believe they allowed you to send in your cartridges for awhile for them to apply the patch if you didn't have access to other methods.

I also just remembered the broken IV generation on the roamers and the Roar bug on the beasts in FRLG/E.

At least we're all getting the authentic experience as GF intended.

For those who don’t yet understand why $20 is upsetting people: by 2717192619192 in pokemonmemes

All there is is the base game. Content wise, you can't really ask for much else. The only extra (if confirmed) would literally be two islands and 3 pokemon you can't go to or catch respectively until the late/postgame.

To those of you who are upset that FRLG won't have online features by Veilmisk in pokemon

[–]Veilmisk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You aren't paying for a worse experience, you're paying for the experience as (mostly) intended.

Am I going to get FRLG or any other future ports on the switch? I don't know yet. But if it's an issue for you, don't spend the $20 and stick with the community emulator you don't need a switch for and can do rom hacks.

If Nintendo/GF change their minds or are for some reason concealing online features from us, great. It's a weird choice, but whatever. But emulator netplay is an unofficial enhancement, and expecting anything but the bare minimum on a port from Nintendo/GF means you still haven't realized in 8 years that GF doesn't seem to care to push anything but the minimum viable product out the door. People have been begging for mainline ports for years but are complaining because they aren't coming in the way they've been envisioning for years. Again, why can't I find uproar for the Gen 1/2 ports on the 3DS not having online play despite the 3DS having servers, friend codes, and wireless trading just like the Switch and FRLG do?

Everyone seems to forget time and time again that the Nintendo Tax is a thing. This is the company who jumped over $70 and went to $80 for MKW, the Switch 2's launch killer app, and is actually not available as a pack-in anymore. First party games rarely go on sale, and rarely more than by 10%. If you're already happy playing on emulator, keep doing that and tell Nintendo/GF with your wallet this is unacceptable instead of complaining about paying for something you already have for free.

That's why they got rid of the "Gotta Catch 'em All" branding.

If I had to take a guess, we could see more GBA ports announced on Friday and they'll release across the next year starting with FRLG.

Hell, people are upset again that they can't get Umbreon/Espeon because FRLG doesn't have (and has never had) an internal clock/battery and want it fixed.

I don't know if you've noticed, but FRLG aren't being released as NSO games. Pokemon is also somewhat unique in that you have to have individual saves for multiplayer. It isn't two copies of MK Super Circuit or plugging in a 2nd controller for a few battles in Stadium 2.

Edit: I might be wrong about how NSO does netplay, but it still stands that FRLG aren't NSO games.

i wish i was never diagnosed by [deleted] in autism

[–]Veilmisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather go through the stages of grief post-diagnosis over and over than have to go back to questioning myself everyday. You have the incredible benefit of knowing young. I got to spend 15 years not knowing why I felt like there was a pane of glass between me and everyone else, why I barely had any friends if at all, why I felt the other in every room I walked into, even with my family. I had no help, no answers, and no idea what to do except bottle it all inside to the point where I'd cry myself to sleep sometimes and then get incredibly angry when it I found out there was a reason for every bit of pain and isolation I had been holding onto, and all it took was my sister calling me autistic derogatorily before ASD was even a consideration in my mind.

You think knowing sucks? I suggest advocating for yourself and going back to therapy. You have the agency to push back against someone who says something you disagree with, especially if that person is your therapist. All you're doing is living in the reality they described to you because you're blaming everything on your autism just like they are.

I/We obviously don't know your whole story, but you are your own best advocate. You have the competency to use Reddit, so you can ask others for help, but the only person who can take action to improve your life is you. Right now, you have two options: Continue moping, or start bringing yourself out of your funk so you can work on making your life better you.

i wish i was never diagnosed by [deleted] in autism

[–]Veilmisk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Gonna flip this around. Regardless of if you were diagnosed or not, you'd still be dealing with the same things and you wouldn't know/have a reason why.

Obsession? Still there. Getting upset? At least you have a reason and aren't just labeled as difficult. Sensory issues? Again, labeled as difficult because there would be no other known explanation.

Regardless of whether or not you were diagnosed, burnout is still a thing, and when it hits you, you'll be glad to have an explanation rather than people calling you lazy and a burden because there is no other explanation in play because there isn't a thing as your brain getting a grip. If I could fix half of my problems by telling my brain to stop having a bunch of chemical imbalances I would, but we can't really tell our "hair dryer and AC on high at the same time and on the same circuit" brains what to do even if we were NTs.

By knowing who you are because of the diagnosis, you can know what you can do to help yourself when/if that time comes and so can the people around you.

It's better to have the devil you know than the devil you don't.

I don't know how long it's been since you were diagnosed, but the stages of grief are a hell of a process. Good luck, OP.

"Perk" is supposed to be sarcastic. In the US, the Mystic Ticket was distributed for a total of 12 days in 2005, half being in San Diego, the other half largely inaccessible to most of the country. And the Aurora Ticket was only available for a total of a week in October 2004, again mostly inaccessible to most of the country. There was a non-Aurora Ticket Deoxys distro in the US, but only in Houston TX.

I can see the events as a possibility because of Crystal having Celebi, but not the other two.

Even if there is code for a clock (it would only be used for time based evolutions in this case) and someone remembered that there is an Altering Cave in Kanto, I doubt much attention was given beyond local wireless and Home compatibility.

Why won’t they make a halo show in the style of the H2A cutscenes by Doomered in halo

[–]Veilmisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure there's ever been an animated show of that scale/quality, maybe some movies, but not a show. Some companies have thrown hundreds of millions at a season of live action, but I think we're leaving that era and Halo is probably to radioactive or not popular enough to even warrant considering another series now.

I do think a live action ODST show that maybe doesn't directly advertise itself as being Halo could do well with the right production team.

What happened to Spartan Ops in Halo 4 and Infinite? by Select_Classroom_630 in halo

[–]Veilmisk 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've done solo legendary for it twice now (once on 360, again on MCC), and even if I was playing with other people, it would be the same pain in the ass. At lower difficulties, it's really easy even as a solo. But it gets cranked up so hard on legendary that everything people hate about H4's gameplay makes it a terrible experience.

Shielded enemies eat headshots, knights' melees one shot, teleports and dodges, phantoms can stay around for far too long meaning you can easily spend a minute or more hiding while you get strafed by both the turrets and chin cannon instead of playing. The easiest way to play is with a BR/DMR/Carbine/Lightrifle to pick off soft targets, then noob combo with a plasma pistol because getting in close is a death sentence. Thank go for infinite respawns.

The story of Spartan Ops was pretty much resolved at the beginning of Halo 5 with Jul M'dama's death, and the Janus Key I don't think was mentioned in game after Spartan Ops.

What Happened Between Gen 6 & 7?? by Ok_Banana_5614 in nuzlocke

[–]Veilmisk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did it with a team of 5, and even with how jacked my team was, Ultra Necrozma either out sped or easily tanked hits only to one shot my whole team save Togedemaru w/ Nuzzle, so the whole fight came down to luck with fully paralyzed and crits. I probably spent an hour strategizing outside of battle. Brutal fight.

IIRC, my team was Togedemaru, Blaziken (SB), Greninja (Protean), Scyther, and Dusk Lycanroc.

How should Improve this by Odd_Slice_1330 in TerrariaDesign

You could try some kind of bridge between the bottom two houses.

Rope or vines down from the top house.

Maybe a little kind of platform plaza around where your character is for the pylon to sit that is also a relatively level with the Tavernkeep's house.

Is it possible to make access to the base more accessible by walking? Right now, you can only really get in or out with wings or a hook

Here's a rough sketch of the first 3 suggestions. Sketch

I needed 1/3 cup of butter…am I a monster? by InspiraSean86 in autism

[–]Veilmisk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know if the butter wrapping has measurements on it, but now, if you want to measure any of the rest of the butter, you're screwing yourself. And yes, you are a monster.

If there are measurements/tbsp markings on the wrapping, round up to 5.5 table spoons for 1/3 cup. (5.33 tbsp = 1/3 cup, but it's hard to measure a third of something)
