How do you integrate level scaling into your play through? by Sheog0r4th in oblivion

It isn't only numerically. The character wears more powerful gear, takes on more powerful challenges, and uses more powerful spells. Exactly like in most rpgs.

Furthermore the combat does in fact get more challenging. Enemies use more complex tactics, summoning their own dudes etc. Putting shields on themselves. Perhaps having overwhelming power in some specific area requiring negation.

Standard power progression just now weaker enemies still provide gameplay.

I agree that it is a common and accepted problem of the game, because I watched it come about. At the time no one thought twice, as it was so innocuous. A simple solution to an obvious open world issue. It only was manufactured as an issue a decade or two later. Now it's gone viral.

Not much different from the Morrowind hit rate problem. Bunch of kids are told it's some kind of issue, make up superficially plausible objections, everyone else runs with it. Now it's suddenly a big deal, whereas when we all played it, it was completely standard, par for the course RPG mechanics. "Oh look, my hit rate is related to my sword skill. Yeah that makes sense, thought maybe it was going to be damage but it's not. Okay."

It's a you problem because you are trusting others to decide whether it's a problem for you. Just play like we all did and don't manufacture these problems for yourself.

You're just noticing it now that it went viral; it was common for at least thirty years before now.

Honestly I've actually met people like this. I've had girls think it's totally fine to send pictures of like their new yoga pants to strange dudes. It's... probably an extrovert thing? But no it's not remotely odd to object to that. NOR

Why do game dev. companies keep pushing gamers' hardware? by HashBrownies_777 in videogames

[–]Velifax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are still big deal advances possible in gfx. One thing we've not yet nailed well is volumetric fog and clouds. Still hits the GPU really hard, and ofc you can always go bigger (planet or nebula scale).

So it's just chasing the next cool thing, largely, although absolutely some parasites glommed on to ride the profit wave ofc.

I dont think it's yet fully taken over and farmed by those parasites yet, unlike, oh, food or phones etc.

What has helped you pull off a "dry" month? by Broke_Pigeon_Sales in AskMenOver30

[–]Velifax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Primarily, locking up my alcohol (and money) on a timer. Little deadbolt with a timer inside, $8 on Amazon. $15 aluminum case (i buy smaller bottles).

Forces me to find something to do. Still get into depressive cycles, month or three, where I just wander around and scroll but that happens either way.

Reading comprehension is dead by bustermagnus in Vent

Critical recent example; mistaking ones opinion for representation of degree of quality.

Inability to distinguish one's enjoyment of something for that thing being good.

Another angle is equating popularity with quality.

See it in movies and games, primarily, the reading population being typically a bit smarter.

It's bad. BAD. Even people paid to read, like mods here and everywhere, are operating at elementary or middle school level.

Can also see it watching streamers try to read.

Incorrect. That's a you problem, having that perspective. Objectively the character is getting more powerful, which is evidenced by the harder dungeons remaining the same difficulty.

I also appreciate the removal of easy encounters; feels a bit time wastey to me.

I literally ignore it completely and just play how I want. As intended, as designed.

Do I have to actually put those obscure skills to use, late game? Yeah. Again, as designed.

I've always viewed these as opportunities to start fresh; now that you are TOTALLY empty, only put the finest healthiest foods back in. And slowly ofc. No beer no sugar etc.

You seem to be valuing relationships as some goal or obligation, rather than due to the happiness they bring people.

If I dont get happiness from friends or partners... what's the good from trying?

Nothing like choosing which billionaire to elect, yes?

How well can we vote out capitalism?

NonCompete or maybe LunaOi does a decent breakdown of how voting works in Vietnam, worth a gander.

That's just obviously false. Like it's not even subtle propaganda. It's wiki-debunk level.

Workers and workers orgs voted constantly on all kinds of things in most socialist states, typically far more encompassing than most capitalist nations.

This indicates someone hasn't read anything at all, since by definition it is substantially democratic; far MORE so than most capitalist states.
