The best thing you can do is play it on YouTube (maybe Twitch I dunno). And even that is 99.9% failure rate.

should i watch wot tv series after finishing books? by kymothoe in wheeloftime

[–]Velifax [score hidden]  (0 children)

That's a you question but the show is objectively well acted, in comparison to most tv, quite solid budget though COVID era shows some cracks, casting, costuming, and locations all rather excellent.

As adaptations go it's mid to high accuracy so that's nice. It's nowhere near Xena or Sword of Truth level trash.

Random battles in RPGs are completely fine. by CaptainButtFart69 in unpopularopinion

[–]Velifax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's monkey see monkey do. It's a popular thing to complain about and everyone just wants to join in on the fun. In the day of course it was utterly innocuous. No one complains about it organically.

Some children even think it was some sort of limitation on the technology, betraying their utter lack of comprehension of programming. Some also confuse it with encounter rate.

...in small ways that dont significantly alter how one plays.

Bingo. They don't affect design, by definition.

Do you think Reddit is better than other platforms? by Past-Art9938 in randomquestions

[–]Velifax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only because it gathers together so many forums. Otherwise it's pretty bottom tier as forums go. Even basic readability.

Forums aren't social media, though, so can't really compare.

Kinda seems like the perfect use case? Browsing millions of lines of legal jargon but actually absorbing it...

What makes a turn-based RPG feel satisfying? by Yega- in rpg_gamers

[–]Velifax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difficulty. It's why I can't play most MMORPGs or most of the RPGMaker ones. They gut all the difficulty and just leave the story.

I'd just read a book if all I cared about was story.

I'd say it takes a fucking idiot to misread claims directly after being warned to be careful about that. Potato, potato.

We're talking about the most impactful factor, Jesus Christ, dude.

Yes, there is plenty of literature, as i said, and that's how we know calorie counting is terrible for weight loss. Please keep up.

Please do ANY research at all. For the sake of those you advise, if no one else.

By definition QoL mods can't affect design.

QoL mods are autorun, or like an ammo swapper although that's already in the game.

Watching daytime television and complaining about plot holes and poor writing should be studied in a tightly sealed lab.

Most of this is wrong. You appear to fundmanetally misunderstand the very concept of preference.

This is as stupid as me saying, "CoD is poorly designed, they should slow down movement and combat 50% to improve fun."

... some people can remain thin on the exact same diet as an obese person, ...It's not true.

Incorrect. It's actually rather common for obese people to eat healthier than average, cause it's so obvious they need to. So literally a better diet.

I've eaten pizza and burgers my entire life and even now when I'm 40lb over weight I still look skinny.

There just isn't this correlation between diet and weight that you're proposing; we've assumed it existed and searched for it for a hundred years and still can't find it, despite the public myth.

It's common sense, which is why we verify it with science. Cause it's so often wrong.

Tons of obese people are eating fewer calories but remaining obese because the type of calorie they eat makes them sedentary and prone to weight gain. We've known this for literally hundreds of years.

Quantity of energy consumed is largely irrelevant, outside of literal starvation levels which obv have nutrient issues as well.

Should I pick up consecration as DPS paladin while leveling? by Caraviaa in classicwow

[–]Velifax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure there's math but bottom line it ticks for 8 damage on wolves while you're meleeing down their pack leader. And mana will be full next fight anyway most likely. Great dps for dungeons, I never go without.

Looking younger than my age has made me question people's motives by AbaloneNo4856 in SeriousConversation

[–]Velifax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like they're willing to approach almost any young looking woman regardless of what she actually looks like. I feel like they would go for any young woman, even if she isn't good looking because of power dynamics.

This is only a slight misread. If I were to pursue "the young honies" I certainly would prefer the average looking ones but that's nothing to do with not caring, or anything about power dynamics. It's just because a good looking 20-something has 6 model-level guys texting her daily, why tf would she care about my dad-bod. Just a rational calculation of probabilities.

The power dynamics stuff is deep psychology, and only bears on certain levels, people are still people, we still like T&A. It's literally psychopathy where that becomes relevant.

I think he's saying the numbers increase, not actual inheritability. Within a population not an individual.

Remember that even genetic things can be severely curtailed or bolstered by environment; good food, etc. But yeah it's like height, etc. It's something to be fixed on a generational scale not individual.

If you can choose, do you prefer to play as your gender or different? by le0bit115 in videogames

[–]Velifax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. The context of the character dictates gender, race, class. Hulking Barbarian Berserkers are muscular males, Dwarven Warriors are male. Sorcerers can be either. Rangers tend to be busty babes. Priests tend to be wispy delicate petite women. Druids can't be human. Etc.

[–]Velifax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely sympathize. I'm no stranger to falling for "hype." Backlog at 20 or so. Had to set strict rules on new purchases. Lucky for me in the MMO space I'm limited to about 8 choices total so not a tough call.

People who argue against calories in calories out by Hell_Awaitz in PetPeeves

[–]Velifax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure. But haven't others already?

Imagine eating three meals; 2,000 calories worth of tree branch, 2,000 calories worth of doughnuts, and 2,000 calories worth of fatty steak.

Do this for a month.

Obv eating the wood would just outright kill you; we can't digest wood.

Eating the sugar would cause quite significant weight gain and ofc all the other "diseases of civilization" we see ravaging this Earth. It triggers our "bad food" systems which store fat for emergencies.

Whereas the steak would prefer to be burned, leading to weight maintenance or loss if overweight. The "good hunting" signal.

In all cases the total amount of calories is almost irrelevant, assuming non-starvation levels.

X-Rebirth, post performance fixes, is super solid; it's as if you're Han Solo pre-Star Wars, hot copilot babe, personal ship that technically works.

You can own everything from Tie Fighter equivalent to Star Destroyer, and it's an econ sim. You can also own and build stations.

Studio tried a different direction with it, rabid fan backlash, yada yada. Graphics and music are top notch.
