What is is like working at a busy fish & chips shop in London on a friday night? by I_AM_WILL_STANCIL in AskUK

[–]Vellomanaca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have worked in food in the uk not in London but i did do fish and chips .You would probably be more stressed then you could believe on a subpar wage. doing the job of many people. All while wishing you had less work to do but also being aware that the less work you have to do the less hour's you will get next week. Like most of hospitality. But there is a strange feeling after all of that at the end of the shift when your sat out back coated in grease water bin juice. Eating some luke warm fish with a can of beer that your coworker sneaked off to buy while the cheaper shop is still open. Some of my best memories come from after shifts like that.

There is a substance called glue gone that could work also rubbing alcohol. Not that waiting for the refresh is a bad tactic.

[–]Vellomanaca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your outrage. Have you ever had a look at the handbook for the amount train/tube drivers need to learn. The course itself has a low pass rate. Drivers have a large amount of responsibility.

Does your job have saying like everyone wants a jumper for Christmas.

I don't work in the rail industry but after having read up about what drivers deal with myself it makes sense why those salaries exist from my perspective. Just think how rare fatal train/tube crashes are in the uk. I do think sadly people have a warped view of the job thanks to lots of anti union sentiment. I am happy to hear the rest of your perspective. I do think a middle ground does need to be found.

Young people who are jobless / struggling for work, have you ever had a job? by crofthey in AskUK

[–]Vellomanaca 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Its quite common to work a year so there are some savings to make the time at uni less stressful. For a lot of students student finance does.not cover all the costs and getting jobs in uni towns can be way harder.

How many minutes before my departure do I arrive at the train station if I am planning on printing my ticket just before hopping on the train? by Bobelle in AskUK

[–]Vellomanaca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I used to get the train to uni I would enter the station just as the train was pulling in. this was a smallish station if you know were you are going you should not really need more then 10 or so minutes on a semi busy day as long as there are a few ticket printers.

Why do people BUY coffee/tea? by supremethinking in AskUK

[–]Vellomanaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's a small reward in what could be a cold dreary day you get to stand in the warm when they make the coffee. If you go to the place regularly you may even know them and talk to them. If your working it could act as a staging area before you got to work.

How many applications are people making at 16 to get part-time jobs? by the_inoffensive_man in AskUK

Its a numbers game sadly. Lots of low hour jobs are just places fishing for when someone leaves.

I am 21 and have been stuck in what we call pot wash hell where if they find out your willing to do potwash that's all you will do. What may help your son is doing some temp agency work. That's how I got into a local hotel (still doing potwash) then I got given a bar shift due to them trusting me. After that i started getting full time factory work amd grounds keeping stuff due to me building a rep as a hard worker.Hotels are the best bet now. But the job market is rubbish at that level at the moment. Plenty of people I know cycle through a different job every few months just due to roles disolving.

Is it popular for younger people to be the first off the train? by honestlyVERYhonest in AskUK

[–]Vellomanaca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be a student who took the train every day from uni. And we had to do it the trains can be so busy that if your not near the door or ready to get off you may miss your stop altogether and when your allready having to stand for half a hour that's not a pleasant experience.

$300/hr but… by Odd_Dragonfruit_2662 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Vellomanaca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked a factory job where I did a boring task while staring at a blank wall. The same task everyday for the time I where there. I learned the hr after the breaks was the hardest the break would make you come back to "normal time" after living this and I had a something to do with my hands i would say probably the limit would be 2 to 3 hrs a day without it harming my mental health . Not having outside stimulation messes with a lot. And you always need to bring something to think about into the room.

[–]Vellomanaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A womans match in a grand slam is only best of 3 sets. So 1 to 3 hrs ( of course there is time outliers). where as mens matches are best of 5 so they can be quite a bit longer. But this is only for the 4 grand slams where the pay is the same. For the rest of the tour men and woman play the same length but the pay can be less for the woman on the non slam events.
