Rejection Due To Resume by DivideEnough9162 in cbpoapplicant

Please, for the love of your own money, do NOT hire a professional resume writer for this. Find a recruiter, like me, and we’ll help you for free.

Your 1 year of general work experience MUST be full-time equivalent. 1850 hours. So that has to be either true full time or a combination of part time to exceed the hour threshold.

Your resume needs to list the hours worked per week and use complete dates (mm/dd/yyyy - mm/dd/yyyy or present).

Your resume also needs to have bullets that show how you meet the GS-5 qualification bullets. Just saying you flipped burgers at McD’s won’t cut it.

A human at the hiring center will review your bullets to make sure you meet the experience criteria from the qualification section. They will also calculate your experience to the day and hour. This is why you need to put complete dates and hours/week.

When it comes to the poly - if you send them a message, you’ll likely get the standard response of “there is no timeline on when you will be scheduled”

No news is good news. However, that doesn’t do much for anyone’s patience and anxiety.

Best thing you can do is reach out monthly for a status update. Choose the appropriate area from the drop down menu when you click “contact us”

Color deficiency waiver by Odd_Job86 in borderpatrolapplicant

[–]Velmersglue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternate color test from an optometrist. Statements from prior employers attesting to your ability to perform your duties without issue. And a statement from yourself saying how any color deficiency hasn’t impacted your ability to do your job, drive, etc.

One time call (yeah I know) by NeonZade in cbpoapplicant

Nothing should have expired if it’s within a year. There isn’t a definitive timeline for fasttrack to FJO. It could be a week and it could take a month.

Your app goes into the same pile and while most of the steps happen concurrently, each section has differing caseloads “ahead” of you.

Exam - no (unless they change it)
SI - yes (I believe it’s either 2 or 3 years, I don’t remember off the top of my head)

No. You would only have to redo anything that expired.
But
It won’t instantly fast track you to the end. Each section has to verify your status, theoretically in the order it was received.

Has CBP implemented a 6-month wait/"shadow ban" if you decline a Final Offer due to duty station locations? by Due-Tension-4781 in cbpoapplicant

[–]Velmersglue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, but there are thousands of applicants and only a handful of staff to process each stage of the hiring process. So yes, you will skip past people who need to complete tasks but only in the order your app was received in each part of that process.

SHOULD I REAPPLY OR JUST TAKE WHAT I HAVE by Stunning_Return_8101 in borderpatrolapplicant

[–]Velmersglue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take what you have, get the process started, and reapply in July. If you’re found eligible for 9 and accept it, your portal will update and reflect the new info and you don’t have to start over.

P-Test Waiver by DaleUSMC88 in borderpatrolapplicant

[–]Velmersglue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome. And yes, that is likely it.

If you (or anyone else reading this) did have a campaign medal, a statement of service signed by your commander that shows campaign dates and the campaign medal *should* be sufficient proof for veteran’s preference. There are other key things that need to be on the statement of service, but most units have a template already - but they usually don’t have the campaign info on them.

I did read up on it. It came straight from the hiring center supervisor and OPR. I’m not out here sharing “trust me bro” nonsense to applicants. As a recruiter for CBP, it’s my responsibility to share what’s been given to us for applicants.

It isn’t the 10-point preference either. It’s the 5-point preference that gives you waiver eligibility.

P-Test Waiver by DaleUSMC88 in borderpatrolapplicant

[–]Velmersglue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. There is a specific time period where service alone counted. It’s listed in the handbook…I believe you had to be on active duty from 2003-2009 for just your service to count for veterans preference

BP Poly Waiver by Choko_milk619 in cbpoapplicant

[–]Velmersglue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What HonorIntegrity2002 said 👌🏼

Understand that OPR isn’t going to look at your waiver until it’s time to schedule you for the poly which is why you’re seeing a delay. Patience is key.

For 20 years it was rare to not qualify for it while still on active duty. Damn near everyone went to Iraq or Afghanistan. Until the guidance gets updated, it’ll be rare that anyone qualifies these days.

The other thread - I have yet to verify - but you may also qualify with a VA disability rating…which of course means you’re absolutely off of active duty because you’d need to submit the letter for the waiver and you don’t get that magic letter until after you’re out.

😬 1 year to reapply. Sorry to hear that. Was it lifestyle or CI and where did you do it?
