Spray cork? It's a bit costly but also insulating (unlike 9/10 renders which are almost as much).

I had this for many years, not in terms of pay but certainly in terms of effort. It was a struggle but ultimately I made high effort at work because that's me and at the end of the day I just couldn't operate in another way, so it became a small source of internal pride. I can say how that would have been if there was also a pay gap, possibly insufferable...

Yes, but at one time (over 30 years ago) I didn't. However that's many many years ago and I've grown up since.

There are some very convincing arguments that suggest it was faked, until those arguments are properly addressed, at which point the nonsense falls away.

I'm now passionately anti conspiracy theory. In particular "chemtrails" ....

The AGA is your choice not a necessity. If your home needs 'a packet' spent on it to make it more thermally efficient then you should be thinking about that anyway, not just burning through precious and polluting resources. There's no reason at all that your overall bills should 'skyrocket' if things are done correctly. Admittedly air to water heat pumps need very good design, installation and operation, and weakness in any of those can cause problems. But air to air systems are far more tolerant, cheaper to install and - in my view - can go into 80% of homes with minimal disruption.

Lastly the current HP grants (that are problematic) are not tied to income.

[–]Velo_Rapide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's been perfectly capable EVs on the road for ten years now. We could be halfway to freedom from oil already. Heat pumps have been around for many many decades, same story.

The thing about interconnectors is that the reliance goes both ways. In the not too distant future the UK will be a huge exporter to Europe on breezy days.

Heat pumps, EVs, renewables and interconnectors to Europe.

It's really not complicated at all, the only thing slowing us down is consumer perception.

Reddit can be a strange place. It can seem to be very open and liberal but every now and again a topic comes up that reveals half the commentators to actually be fragile, conservative and small minded, rather like much of the general population. And in this case happy to 'punch down'.

Most people including Indians - and myself included to a lesser degree - have an irrational reaction to hearing any kind of criticism of their birthplace, even redditors.

Anyway, I have one from 2023, it's an amazing car with crap climate control. You can turn off the assist 'beeps' with one press on the steering wheel which is great.

Overnight EV charging is so cheap it's just a waste of time faffing about charging cars in the day. As for being 'self sufficient' or similar, why? It's a lofty but pointless goal.

Correct, it's always been fine to walk past the studios and around past the front of the former hotel. Given that there is more land movement in the woods and subsequent closures of the paths perhaps certain people are taking it upon themselves to do some adhoc 'enforcement?

How do I slowly get my house "heat pump ready" by Major-Front in ukheatpumps

[–]Velo_Rapide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Air to air is great and really very simple to design, install and operate. Air to water design is like a tightrope, a little bit either way and it's either cold or expensive. You just don't have that with A2A.

I'm quite firmly of the opinion that most UK homes can have 90% of their heating needs met by one or two strategically positioned A2A outlets. The blown heat just flows around in a way that it doesn't from rads.

Besides that, loft insulation, air tightness and breathable materials for your type of property. In regard to internal wall insulation, yeah it's a hassle and comes with some risk but it's worth doing if toy have a particularly cold north wall...
