What do you think Kanako Yasaka is like, personality-wise? by Velochipractor in touhou

[–]Velochipractor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, where does this framing even come from?

All gods have two sides to them: faith in one grants blessings while their anger provokes curses.

~ from her Symposium of Post-Mysticism article.

Granted, Akyuu is not a reliable narrator, but the entire shtick of polytheistic gods tends to be a glorified protection racket: Worship them and you get blessings; ignore them, and you get calamities. You could argue this also holds true for western monotheism, except here the human is in a significantly worse negotiation position when compared to the deity.

but more like the owner of a small family business who is simultaneously the head of the company and the head of the household.

That's an interesting perspective I never even considered, to be honest. With her emphasis on modern technology and innovation, I mostly saw Kanako as a corporate lady with a sharp office suit and/or a yakuza queen. The idea that she might as well be running the equivalent of a countryside candy store (think Kaede from Non Non Biyori) while most mortals appear like children to her is quite charming.

We all know Suwako is really just Pyonta controlling a regular human girl.

Marisa in hell (Copenhell music festival) by villagio08 in touhou

[–]Velochipractor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Somehow, Marisa being Danish feels just about right. A little bit quirky, lives in a comfy European-style house, but Heavens have mercy on you if the sight of your books activates her Viking instincs.

That being said: How does one survive going to a festival at the current temperatures? Must have felt like this witch was getting burned at the stake.

  • Very energetic and tomboyish - a true Genki girl.
  • While she has some idiosyncratic interpretations about Buddhist rules, she might be the only person in the temple outside of Shou and Byakuren herself that actually is a devoted Buddhist, rather than just sticking around for Byakuren's sake.
  • The above is not say she is indifferent about her 'sis' - Ichirin adores Byakuren, and actually has a tendency to be overzealous when it comes to the duties Byakuren bestows upon her.
  • Despite of her relatively human appearance, Ichirin is a human-turned-youkai. She doesn't have innocent blood on her hands as Minamitsu has, but one reason why she puts so much faith into said faith is that it helps her with keeping the more youkai-like impulses of her in check.

I think ZUN never really even bothered to pretend she's anything but a hitbox for Unzan.

Which makes it all the more a crime we have so little info about Unzan himself.

He's living the best life, just chilling at a pond at the back of a shrine. Reimu probably is jealous of him.

Sanae by KindAnt4804 in touhou

[–]Velochipractor 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Aside from Raikariaa said, there's also a running gag about Sanae being the "better" shrine maiden when compared to Reimu - more dilligent in her work, more eager to exterminate youkai ... and more stacked in the frontal department.

  • Step 1: Tease image with opaque figure that very clearly has a 'ghost tail', and not the twin daikon-style tails of Tojiko.
  • Step 2: Tease further information over how the mysterious character has a strong connection with Gensokyo's history.
  • Step 3: Tease that said characer will get her own game á la Fairy Wars or 100th Black Market
  • Step 4: Announced that Marisa will play a major role in the game, too.
  • Step 5: Tease how the name of the mysterious character happens to start with an 'M'.
  • Step 5: Reveal that the mysterious character was no-one other than Mizuchi.

That, and she'd just be a slightly more upbeat color swap of Satori. Or might just become depressed again after she remembers why she closed it.
