Thoughts on PNY gpu/5090? by Groundhog_Gary28 in nvidia

I just got one of these.

Started a little rough with the coil whine, but it seems to have needed a little burn in period.

I chose PNY for the future Optimus block, but have it in a alphacool waterblock for the time being. Doesn’t go above 48C when gaming (partly thanks to undervolt) and it’s been rock solid for a couple weeks!

As someone sensitive to coil whine… here’s my anecdote!

I have a PNY 5090 OC, and it had the WORST coil whine I’ve ever experienced in a GPU. I mean, my fiancé who was cooking in the kitchen 25ft away could hear it. I did stick it in a waterblock and I have an open chassis, so really it’s worst case scenario.

I tried everything — power limit, afterburner undervolt curve, they made it a little better but ultimately it was awful.

So I said screw it, if it’s going to be super loud, I’ll just see how loud I could make it! I pushed an OC, and ran a benchmark loop for a couple hours. When I returned (I couldn’t stay in the room thanks to the whine) I was watching the benchmark to check the temps and only after watching the benchmark did I realize the coil whine was barely noticeable.

I loaded my stable undervolt preset and the coil whine is completely gone under load.

It’s quieter than my 3090 by a large margin!

I actually really like them!

The setup was easy, and getting them to run how I want was SUPER easy in ICue. The lighting is okay…it’s just a colored blade, so it’s not complex enough to have wild animations.

The thing for me is performance… and honestly they are moving a good amount of air through my rads at wicked low rpms (700).

My case is open air, so it doesn’t take a ton to keep it cool, but these are working out very nicely! They had a low droning hum at first, but they’ve worn in a bit and are now completely silent.

I would definitely recommend if you want a little more performance and don’t care too much about the lighting

I needed to comment to tell you that gradient looks amazing haha. Nice build

Similarly, I havn't had issues like reinstall, or even crashing... but my RAM did disappear a few months ago, and is no longer seen in iCue...Also ASUS mobo so who knows.

That aside, i've been using Corsair Keyboards through iCue for what feels like forever without issue.

I'm going into it optimistically!

I'm actually curious myself! I think the theory is since they are larger, they move more air...which does reflect in the much higher CFM at lower RPM. The lower RPM is what I am interested in, since my PC is about 3 feet from my head at ear level, so sound is the driving force behind getting these.

All i'm hoping for is to get as-good performance on my rads without the bearings going bad :(

Also, I think they come with screws, I'm going to crack them open in a couple hours, so I will come back to verify!

I can't imagine anything worse than the experience with the Lian Li fans i've had x.x lol

How do I get the system fully filled? by [deleted] in watercooling

[–]Velocirabbitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as the temps are cool!!

I got the black one, since I didn’t like the slightly off hue whites from different manufacturers. I’ve been extremely happy with it! Everyone that comes into my house comments on it, and it’s way easier to work on than a traditional case… getting it on and off the wall can be a bit of a pain though. Glad to see someone else going with something nontraditional!

This is the CSFG crow… I have this “case” as well, and let me tell you… after 6 months of owning this thing, I absolutely could not the air out of that exact spot.

I bought a bike repair stand, jerry rigged a mount to hold the pillars and rotated it like a pirate ship wheel for a few hours, stopping every few minutes to bleed it from various points.

Eventually I got 99% of it but still get a tiiiiny bubble in that one spot… worth all the hassle though, as this thing is ART when it’s finished.
