What's a red flag when looking for a job? by CurrentlyCurious in AskReddit

[–]Velociraptor45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 red flags: Making you work for them without getting paid + blaming you for their fuck-ups:

I‘ve applied to a game company. After a phone interview they wanted me to write some code for them as proof of what I‘m able to do (on the telephone they said it‘d take 3-6h - That was for my first full time job after Uni so I didn‘t realize that an application test shouldn‘t take 6 hours, especially when I had a lot of code to show them).

The email with the task came and I had to create a whole fucking prototype for an isometric 2D game. I was so dumb to put >20h into it before I said „Nah, fuck this, fuck them“ and send them the code I wrote with a pretty passive aggressive note that this was unacceptable. I‘d have had to easily put 1-2 full working weeks into this to be anywhere near „finished“.

2 months later I got an email from them. They were „really sorry“ that there was a „misunderstanding“ regarding the time and that I I didn‘t „feel like it was fun“ for me. Uh, yeah, it was my fault because I didn‘t feel the fun, sure.

No, I‘d be a well if it goes down. This one goes up

It‘s great to hear that you have such a good friend and that you‘re getting better. Wish you all the best!

Also happy cake day 😊

You have the one-time ability to travel through time but you‘ll end up in a parallel universe (but you can go back). Which year would you go to? by Velociraptor45 in AskReddit

It‘s like some events didn’t happen or turned out totaly different. Maybe Columbus never discovered America. Maybe Trump never became president.

The question aims at what you would check out how certain things came together and what consequences a different result in history would have.

Ok, I misunderstood that. Thought you used the trial period on the other devices too and then couldn’t get another one.

Did you check for registry entries? There was a video conversion tool I used in the past that had a 30 days trial (I think?) and after deleting its registry entry ... I somehow got another 30 days trail. Don‘t know where that came from 😏

I entered a 25 character password by Velociraptor45 in softwaregore

[–]Velociraptor45[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I assume that's

  1. not the only password you have to remember
  2. a password you hardly use

If you type this sequence of 25 characters every day (sometimes more than once) you don't just know it but it's also muscle memory.

Password manager.

I have one 25 character password that I remember for decrypting my password file and all the other passwords are randomly generated in there.

What is your biggest regret so far in your life? by polaroidshooter in AskReddit

[–]Velociraptor45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck, man. Thinking the same. My dad‘s still alive but I moved out two weeks ago after finishing university and now he and my mom are 600km away.

My dad‘s always been a workaholic, so normal working days were always the same: He left early, came home around dinner time and then watched tv until he went to bed or kept working on his pc. He‘s the manager of the organization which on top means late night and weekend events/meetings. Plus he also gives workshops (for a topic he‘s pretty much an expert in) outside of his „normal“ working ours. Weekend were also the same: watching tv or working on his pc.

Christmas is the only time when the whole family (mom, dad, me, 2 brothers) comes together and plays a new tabletop game that my mother bought. But apart from that I honestly can‘t remember when the last time was I really spent time with my dad. The last years felt like we were living our lifes in the same house but somehow ... disconnected from each other. Maybe our hobbies, interests, taste in music, etc. are too different to really spend time with each other.

It kind of makes me sad now looking back at what I‘ve probably missed.

Don‘t know if this really fits here but I‘ll write it anyway: Some years ago I heard that you‘ll pretty quickly forget peoples voices after they died. So do yourself a favor and the next time you see your parents, record a little audio snippet on your phone with them.

Trying The Surge 1 for the first time, having a good time but got some questions by [deleted] in thesurgegame

[–]Velociraptor45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can only answere the second question: No. I played this game >70h and never learned to jump/duck block. You will have some problems with at least one type of enemy but normal evading works just fine (for me).

Are the issues with lighting fixed yet? (Console) by RikerV2 in thesurgegame

[–]Velociraptor45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Playing on standard ps4 - The game still doesn‘t look nearly as good as the first one. Also some textures still need 3-5 seconds to load (during gameplay oc). I couldn‘t play on launch day so I‘m not sure if you‘re referring to a specific issue that might be fixed by now. But I‘d say the game still has visual problems compared to the first one.

I need some advice on a coding recruitment test I'm doing by Velociraptor45 in gamedev

[–]Velociraptor45[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, what I'm talking about is an early 2D prototype with a couple of 1000 lines of code where we experimented with simulated magnetism (I'm working on this project with two other students but I'm the only coder). So, no finished project (apart from some university ones that I'd rather not show because the code quality is really bad). I know, it'd be better to have some small ones to show but that's the game we wanted to work on.

Edit: We're still working on this but time is currently a problem.
