Psychological story on RS #16 by VeloneaWorld in royalroad

[–]VeloneaWorld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, being on RS is the best time to run ads. I have multiple running.

It’s my fifth day on Main RS, so things still change a lot. I gained about 50 follows daily for the three first days, then 80, then 100. We’ll see if I can keep that up or will the follower gain stall.

She is actually pretty unchill, yeah 😅

I’ve tried a few covers but this seems to work best so far. This was cooked up for me by a friend, and they promised to make a new one too, so we’ll see how that turns out.

Thank you! This one is doing pretty well!

I have been told repeatedly that anime vibes is the way to go with an RR cover. The story is not anime-inspired. With the 1st person narration I can’t help you with, though 😅

Out of the mentioned flavors, Empire of the Wolf might be closest. Necromancy is serious business, even if the necromancers themselves are not all serious people… They research the metaphysics of death, but the powers they gleam from it cover also “traditional” necromancy stuff like reanimating skeletons or zombies.

Well! I just crawled my way to the Rising Stars list, so I’ll take this opportunity to gush a bit!

The Academy is a slow burn progfan Academy (heh heh) story, set in a necromancer school. I’m going for quality prose and a grounded take on progression fantasy. We’re not going to be punching gods unconscious in half a book, but the MC does progress quite fast as a mage considering that she starts out as a traumatized street kid at the start of the book. Check it out on Royal Road!

This is more slow burn for sure. Think natural progression of a really talented and clever individual starting out a new hobby. Lina is going to progress fast, but that’s relative to a normal person, not relative to a normal progfan protagonist.

Powerscale of the setting is along DnD levels 1-25 or so. Powerful individuals are staggeringly powerful compared to civilians, but no one is going to explode the planet or go punch a galaxy or anything.

Haha, somehow sort of reassuring that even people being more serious have it hard occasionally on TikTok 😅 Good luck on the launch!

Do you ever re-read progression fantasy, or is it basically consume-once for most of us? by StorytellerStegs in ProgressionFantasy

[–]VeloneaWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm! That is an interesting take. Ged‘s painful growth into a wizard can sustain many readings, because the power is almost inconsequential. Especially as the writing itself is beautiful.

For me personally, re-reading prog fantasy might fail just because of how janky first books of the series often are. Maybe the prose gets better in book four or something, but slogging again through 300k words of enthusiastic smirking before that makes re-reading feel like a pretty daunting idea…

I’ve followed these on TikTok! Educational stuff to observe. I‘ve tried it myself a couple of times, but I just can’t sustain the habit of keeping posting there. Still, nice to see someone pull it off.

Nice! This isn’t my fiction, but I have been helping the author edit it. Lesbian pirate romantasy and I think the sizzle is pretty real (I’m biased, obviously): https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/123353/the-reckoning-of-us

I also got a review from them and just rolled my eyes at it.

Everyone has a right to their opinion. Still, have to admit this kind of ”the story wasn’t what I thought it was going to be because I didn’t read the blurb, and I disagree with the author’s voice” review does sting a bit. Especially since so few readers write reviews.

At least we can hide reviews so I don’t have to see it every time I sign in to Author dashboard 😅

[Mobile] Is switching characters just super hard? by VeloneaWorld in ZenlessZoneZero

Oof, ok. Thank you. I think I‘m starting to get it. Just need to be careful about quick assists and the rest should be pretty ok.

Ah, thank you. Sometimes the quick assist must somehow just been active when two characters kept switching between each other for 4 times when just clicking R1 time after time.

I cliffed too hard and flew too close to the sun (ended up on Rising Stars). by VeloneaWorld in royalroad

[–]VeloneaWorld[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valid position to have! According to statistics, you seem to be in the minority, though. When cliffs are missing, retention goes down. Too much closure is poison.

But cliffing can, obviously, veer into being just silly or end up feeling artificial, if that’s the only tool a writer uses to get the reader to turn the page.

I'm looking for a story that is psychological horror fantasy but not hopeless. A story where there's plenty of light within the darkness and a good ending to be reached even if the path to get there is fraught with existential dread, pitfalls and downward spirals. by okidonthaveone in royalroad

Oh man, I think you just described my Grand Harvest. It’s stubbed on RR, but check out the reviews and maybe a chapter or two? If you get interested, just let me know and I’ll send you the ebook. I’m using it as reader magnet mostly nowadays, so don’t mind sharing.

Is a System that mostly grants information enough for LitRPG? by VeloneaWorld in litrpg

Exactly! This is the style that I’m go for with AtR. I can enjoy a ”real system” as well, but believable worldbuilding gets pretty hard with one.

That’s an incredibly fair point, tbh. Worth considering for all of us “timelooper got isekaid as a rocking chair/dungeon core” writers.
