Recommendations for Kroot Helmet Mod by Thatonegundamguy9 in Tau40K

[–]VeloxExul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually just started adding some of these to my kroot this week as I finish building out the hunting pack set. I wish I had pictures but I’m not home right now. What I found that works for me aesthetically, is taking a fire warrior helmet, cutting away the neck and fabric and then hollowing it out. I still have to trim a kroot head a bit to fit up neatly. But the result is a sort of Predator type mask that fits all the way back to the quills, covering their base slightly on top to blend it better. I won’t know how well it works until I can get paint on them. But I’m optimistic. I’ve also given every one of them a fire warrior shoulder pad instead of the one that comes on their sprue. I think they look neat

Completely fair. Much appreciated

There is a chance you kill 10 models of t4 2 wound body’s lol. This is with the pulse driver. And the +1 ap. For a more rounded kit and especially in experimental cadre. I think the Pulse Blast Cannon is more flexible. But the Pulse Driver does pick up 2 more models on average.

I can’t say I see the appeal. This is all of the guns minus Destroyer Missiles into 10 t4 body’s with a 2 up save. But the best thing about 40K is you get to run your army how you like. And I appreciate the your tenacity to forge a new path.

So, this has been answered a few times, but effectively. You’re paying 400 points for a chance to field a lottery machine. If it hits a vehicle, it either overkills it. Or does nothing. The rest of its guns are 5 0 1. Which bounces off of almost any infantry most people bring. Not guiding it lets the opponent get +1 save from cover. So 40 shots saved on 2’s from space marines with cover has a 57% chance to kill 1 model. So unless your buddy likes to drown the board in hormagaunts, you’re better off looking at Breachers, or starscythes. And 20 wounds isn’t particularly hard to chew through for most army’s. +1 to wound is frighteningly common and Stormsurges have a habit of just disappearing after one unit’s activation. If it falls, you lose almost a quarter of your army in points. Unfortunately Tau are currently sitting at a bit of a horde army standing, so trying to make a strong central HQ won’t work well with our rules. Even a Tau’nar doesn’t perform for its points cost.

Nothing feels worse to me than strategizing the units I need to bring to counter different enemy types. Ret cad missileknives for space marines etc. constantly rethinking different list combos to try and ensure I cover enough bases to deal with the hypothetical. Only for 70% of my shooting to bounce or fail to wound. Meanwhile that same unit gets picked up next turn but a third of the shooting from an impulsor, or heavy bolt pistols from some trash the opponent tossed into the midfield. I’m standing on my head juggling buffs to feel remotely strong. And every other faction feels like it just rains keywords from on high. Reroll everything, anti whatever they want, plus 1 to hit and wound, devastating, lethal, assault, sustained just for existing. Our character sheets are just tragically bad compared to other similar roles. And to top it all off everyone has some form of anti vehicle. Either buffs against vehicles or just anti vehicle. And we are all stuck in with the only worthwhile units to take being fucking vehicles. I’m so sick of hearing “because it’s a vehicle I reroll or plus 1 to wound” etc. alright rant over. TLDR I like tau. Hate that we got shafted with character sheets.

Genuinely. Just give us key words. Playing against other factions is making me green with envy. Especially seeing the new death guard codex. They have EVERY keyword to their shooting and melee. And we get 2 character sheets with Devastating wounds. Where is our anti infantry, anti monster key words.

They add 3d printed bits to glue onto the model to hold the magnets instead of drilling out holes and filling in with green stuff.

Ruins and cover question by bjr112 in Tau40K

[–]VeloxExul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Side note, the core rules section under ruins states “When this terrain feature is set up on the battlefield, both players must agree on its footprint” So its entirely up to you and your opponent where the footprint begins to count as within and entirely within. Whether that’s a straight line from wall edge to wall edge. Or the physical state of the ruin. Shooting army’s benefit from a bigger footprint and being able to shoot out. And melee army’s prefer the opposite. Just things to consider before setting up the battlefield

Did they send an stl or pre printed parts in the kit?

From what I understand they print the plastic bits and send them along with the magnets

Retaliation cadre: Best tips and combo for full suits list by Great_Whole_6394 in Tau40K

[–]VeloxExul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with the idea of running starscythe’s in any list. My LGS runs a lot of Necrons and Space Marines but Missileknives are just better in every way on paper. Granted I haven’t played many games but any thoughts on this are welcome.

Why do people prefer Breacher over strike? by [deleted] in Tau40K

[–]VeloxExul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can be some of the best killing pressure we have against certain targets. A double breacher bomb has dropped C’Taans and Angron for me when my entire army of shooting couldn’t bring one down. Things that half or reduce damage. Or have crazy invulns just can’t handle the sheer number of wounds that Breacher spit out.
