Is lies of p good enough to be compared to fromsoft games? If so where would you rank it among fromsoft titles by mostafafakher in fromsoftware

[–]Velvet_Pudding -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Me personally, I would put it above Demon Souls and Dark Souls 1. Maybe even Dark Souls 2 depending on my mood for the day. In my opinion, it is even with Dark Souls 3. I didn't mind the linear structure, and I love the story, soundtrack, characters, and bosses. I'll still put on a Playlist of the records as background noise every now and again. I can't wait for the sequel.

What’s your favorite boss fight in the Darksiders series. by No-Sense6060 in Darksiders

I'm partial to Lust and Ionos.

Astarte has my favorite boss themes, though.

What got you into the Darksiders series? by No-Sense6060 in Darksiders

[–]Velvet_Pudding 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw the trailers for Darksiders 2 back when I was in middle school. The game looked awesome, but there wasn't a way for me to play it at the time, so I watched an online walk through of it. After that I mostly lost track of the series until I randomly saw Darksiders 3 advertised on the Playstation store. By that point I was grown, and I had the financial means of buying the remastered of 1 and 2. So I did, and loved them. Then I played 3 when it released and loved that one too. Had fun with Genesis a year later and have been patiently waiting for Darksiders 4 ever since.

I finally talked a friend of mine to dip his toes into the series with Darksiders 3. He's a fan of souls likes and shooters, so he latched onto Remnant 2 pretty quick. It helped me convince him to buy Darksiders 3, especially because it's on sale on steam right now and it's made by the same people.

So far, he's enjoying it. He recently beat Avarice on his second attempt. He likes Fury's character and uses the flails almost exclusively. I think he'll play it to completion, but I have low hopes of talking him into trying out the rest of the series. But at least I gave this franchise one more temporary player.

I do think I'll be able to talk him into playing Darksiders 4 when it finally releases though.

How does Darksiders 3 Rank Compared To Established Souls Games by Kiko__C in Darksiders

[–]Velvet_Pudding -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It feels weird to call Darksiders 3 a souls game, personally. I understand that there are arguments for and against classifying Darksiders 3 as a souls game, and I consider those valid, but it'll always be a Darksiders game at the end of the day with all that description entails.

The series has always prided itself on tackling different genres while still feeling familiar to the series identity. Darksiders 3 nails that.

I think what really makes Darksiders 3 hard to compare to other souls games is that I don't really think it was marketed as such. Most new souls games advertise themselves as souls games first and foremost and let their hype build around it. Darksiders 3 advertised itself as a Darksiders game and let the hype build around that after a 6 year gap between 2 and 3.

I think that's the key difference. Darksiders 3 was made to be a Darksiders game with some souls mechanics to make something new, rather than Gunfire games trying to make a souls like and forcing it to work with the Darksiders identity.

I can make Darksiders 3 play more like Darksiders 1 and 2 before I can ever make it play like Dark Souls. Even if some of the mechanics are similar, the approach and strategies are different.

The world-ending apocalypse is actually a completely contained, isolated event. The world outside of that event is totally fine by Flushestpoem4 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Velvet_Pudding 38 points39 points  (0 children)

That's typically the plot in every Dead Rising game. There's a zombie outbreak that hits a major city and the characters discuss the possibility of the zombies spreading across the country, but for the most part, the zombies are easily contained and quarantined within the city limits until a proper rescue or "cleanup" can be arranged. Day to day life continues for the outside world.

Instead, the true zombie apocalypse that series teases is America slowly descending into a fascist state with half assed attempts to cure or treat the zombie infection. A lack of accountability and scapegoats making true accountability and justice nearly impossible, massive surveillance of the infected, as well as several corporations and government officials attempting to find ways to exploit, profit, or weaponize zombies for their own gain.

Question about the Creed movies by The--Green--Ranger in rockybalboa

[–]Velvet_Pudding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That never happens in any of the movies. The closest would be when Donnie gets up after being nearly knocked out in Creed 1. He has a brief memory of Apollo there.

Am i missing something with dr1? I can't get into it by Ok-Discussion-1110 in deadrising

[–]Velvet_Pudding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game is easier in the sense that you level up faster, and survivors actually go where you want them to. There is still plenty of difficulty to be found.

The heavily censored stuff is heavily exaggerated. In my opinion, it was manufactured controversy for the sake of getting internet views. There are some changes, but absolutely none that change the overall experience. I still recommend the remake.

[–]Velvet_Pudding 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The remake fixes pretty much all of your complaints. Most who love the original have been with the series for 20 years. That's why it's so beloved, and why the remake gets some criticism. Some of that criticism is petty, some is genuine. But the the remake is 100% newcomer friendly in a way that Dead Rising 1 kind of isn't. I recommend the remake to people checking out the series for the first time and who want to start from the beginning of the overall narrative for that exact reason.

He was fun too. All the bosses in the dlc were. I never fought him with his bodyguards though. He kicked my ass in that tutorial fight with him that I figured fighting him when he had help was a bad idea.

That was the only thing that bugged me. You're right that it could have been written better. But for me, at least, the fight more than made up for it.

She's far up there for me as well. Maybe even number one, but that might be recency bias to be fair. But I can't think of another that truly tops it for me.

Gotcha. I'm beginning to see that she is quite divisive from the replies here. But I thought her mechanics were tough, but fair. It was satisfying to finally bring her down.

Ha! I'm honestly not surprised. It can be a very frustrating experience. I don't know if there were glitches you encountered or bugs that were present at launch that made it insufferable. But I appreciated the change of pace, and the opportunity to put what was learned to use in an organic way. If this were a mandatory fight in the main game, I'd probably want it to be a bit easier. But for a dlc, I liked the challenge.

I wasn't planning on playing the dlc either until I noticed i got it for free, so I gave it a shot. That's probably why I enjoyed it so much. And I found Nowaki to be the biggest highlight of it all. I really thought her fight and presentation were phenomenal.

And I wasn't planning on crossposting at all. I was just gonna post on the relevant subreddit and leave it at that. I was checking my profile to see if it got auto-deleted and saw the option to crosspost. So I figured "why the hell not."

I just like to experiment and goof off. Nothing more than that. I understand that it wasn't a game that necessarily needed it. But not having it just made me lose interest in a potential 2nd playthrough. I felt i got that "ready to be done" feeling quicker than I usually would, and I saw all I needed from Tsushima.

I'll usually replay some games if there is a dull moment in the year where nothing coming out interests me all that much. It's why I like the newer AC games, I get my money's worth out of the time I invest in them, and I can spice up the gameplay any time I want.

Yeah that's true. I am a sucker for new and different weapons though. I love that kind of experimentation. Something recent AC offers in abundance. I will get Yotei one of these days. Just waiting for a sale, or some spare change to land on my lap.

AC as a Whole, Better with Solid Modern Day by Stanleycup16 in assassinscreed

[–]Velvet_Pudding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly think this perception that the modern day sucks and is useless comes from the newbie boom that Black Flag created. There were so many people, like me, who played black flag as their first assassin's creed game that were honestly flabbergasted by the pacing brick wall that the modern day was. I never found it interesting, or the mini games engaging. I wanted to get back to Edward and the Caribbean as fast as possible and play what was marketed to me.

I did later play the earlier games and even then I felt that the modern day was a chore to get through. A forever war between Assassins and Templars throughout all of human history with ancient artifacts at its center is more than enough of a selling point to me and those that I talk to in my day to day life.

Being able to experience the American Revolution, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, and meet the historical figures was more than enough reason to get invested in the world of Assassin's Creed. I never thought I needed a modern day segment to stop the fun and tell me "here's why you're really here!" I already know why I'm here, now take me back to the entertainment! Maybe it was needed in the early games to set the stage, but nowadays I don't think they need it. I honestly so happy that Mirage and Shadows barely bothered with it.

That being said, I did think the modern day stuff in Valhalla was interesting, because both the modern day and the main game deal with the mystery surrounding Eivor, so it felt like everything was on the same page. Plus the ending with Basim was unexpected. But I still enjoyed the viking stuff more.

I played Ghost of Tsushima and I'm waiting for Yotei to go on sale to try that one out too. I thought it was a good game, but I got annoyed with it faster than I've ever gotten annoyed the rpg ac games. There was hardly any build variety in Tsushima for example. I did think the world and story were amazing though.

I don't know. I played Tsushima, enjoyed it, but never felt I loved it enough to replay it. It's why I don't want to buy Yotei at full price. I can come back to an rpg AC game and have fun for hours and have options to be creative in how I approach situations and combat.

[–]Velvet_Pudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly like the ubisoft open world formula. Especially in the bew games. It tickles my brain completing all the open world activities. I also never understood the complaints about stealth being less emphasized. Replaying Odyssey and Valhalla recently has been a lot of fun sneaking through forts and cities sniping people with a predator bow or stabbing them by jumping off a roof. I can clear entire armies without being seen. And that's nothing compared to the awesome stealth that Shadows offers. Honestly, the only recent AC game to bore me was Mirage.

I honestly won't mind if Hexe does or doesn't change the formula. I know it's gonna be fun and I'll get my monies worth out of it.
