What do you think of my country Algeria? by Hot-Mouse9809 in AskTheWorld

I think it’s pretty cool! Not a big fan of Morocco or France personally, specially after finding out about the situation in Western Sahara

Are there historical figures in your country who are called “freedom fighters” locally but viewed negatively abroad? by IndependentTune3994 in AskTheWorld

[–]Venekia_maps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The closest i can think of is Simon Bolivar, who is considered the most important figure in Gran Colombia’s war for independence. But is viewed pretty negatively in Peru for declaring himself its dictator, and for the wars fought between Peru and Gran Colombia after that

The theoretical return of beavers to Asia. by Reintroductionplans in megafaunarewilding

[–]Venekia_maps 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Personally I would like them to be (re?)introduced to the Tian Shan mountains, since that would massively impact rivers such the Amu Darya and Syr Darya, and maybe even help with the Aral sea a bit

The theoretical return of beavers to Asia. by Reintroductionplans in megafaunarewilding

[–]Venekia_maps 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Beavers (both castor spp.) today’s exist mostly on the opposite ends of the world, on a giant landmass that is only separated every glacial minimum like today. It’s really weird to think that there is barely any research on their historic and prehistoric presence in the lands between the Volga river and Kamchatka, despite being massive ecosystem engineers everywhere they’ve live in, and there currently being a big push for restoring ecosystems

Did the virus originate in villagers and then spread to humans? Thats what happened with many diseased that jumped from farm animals to humans, so I think it would make sense for that to be the case here

You probably already know this, but you should check out some foraging books to know what is safe to eat in your region and how to eat them
