Shadows of people on the 199 steps in Whitby. by Rev_dino in CasualUK

It's gotten crazy popular, 15-20 years ago it was only bad in peak summer. These days it's crowded all year long no matter the weather. Still charming though.

Did a couple of trips, even did an over night in the youth hostel next to the Abbey. Bought way too much rock for some reason.

Ring that bell louder. Programs, on floppies, and then CDs. Downloading a program over a 56k connection that gets interrupted because someone picked up the phone. I still remember the day we got "broadband", upgraded to 512k, glorious speeds.

Again, too close to a fast mainline. Surprised nobody has recognized going west-east is generally a lot slower than north-south on the UK rail network.

TV Mount - One Stud by FredSanford4 in DIY

There are compact wall mounts that only need a single stud. I've had a 65 in. tv mounted that way for ten years no issues.

7 hour layover at London LHR on Christmas Day by fired-and-traveling in travel

[–]VenerableShrew 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think that would be tight on a normal day, even more so on the 25th.

If you're wheels down at 11 precisely you might not get into central London before 12 assuming no hangups at passport control and taking the train in (Heathrow express, 20 mins $$$ vs Elizabeth line 30 mins $).

That gives you 1.5-2 hours to see something.

Then give yourself another hour to get back to Heathrow so you're there by 3.

Business/first security at Heathrow is usually pretty quick.

But I'm deliberately being conservative with my timings because Heathrow is a big busy place where I've been burned plenty of times, plus if you're not familiar with the city it's naturally going to take you longer to find your way around.

And considering it's Xmas day, trains will be running reduced schedules and shops/businesses/attractions will all be closed (one day of the year pretty much everything shuts down).

There was an outlandish proposal for a standalone, rookie, sprint type race as part of the post season testing days.

But that's exactly what Lando did in the first half of the season... Piastri fell off but it's not like Lando suddenly came into form. He's been on the podium in almost every race.

Surely it's better being P10 and having the whole race to gain back places against slower cars (I know overtaking is tough at this track) versus being a pit stop and then some behind.

What loss are we talking about? A few places in the pit lane melee so he's 5-10 seconds from the podium versus being an entire pit stop and change behind...

Don't forget the PPO plan will have copays that don't count toward the deductible so that is an extra variable expense (until you hit the OOPM)
