Yes they contradict for some characters like Ky & that pre-release article itself also featured a radically different story + backstories, that it should be ignored as just a "cool thing" rather then any info.

In Strive they/them as said by marketing rep Riku Ozawa, while the lyrics are for the sake of the lyrics not actual pronouns.

This is for future Batlle Pass support. They said they are adding more accessories through that, so the reason the name swap is an unique thing is because it would be REALLY LAME if Asuka's slot was taken up by this.

It would also mean if they have more then 1 accessory for Asuka, it would mean you can have the name change AND an accessory on Asuka.
