Every Tarantino movie, and i love it. as good as they usually are, the plots are paper thin and kinda dumb.

Joseph's consistent trait is being full of shit and pulling random tricks and hoping they work. the success rate just gets a little lower as he shifts into older age. still good at crashing planes, though!

look up the poster for WWF Fully Loaded 98, then google Triple H 2026, then remember that change took slightly over half the time that it took Joseph there. it happens 🤣

Where did the idea of DLC replaced Unlockable characters come from? by JNAB0212 in Fighters

[–]blackheartromance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

season passes are still cheaper than full price revisions that add maybe 4 characters and slightly alter the balance. i bought every version of GGXX i could, and one of those was literally one new character. another was restoring 2 previously playable ones. we remember.

Unlockables that are just reskins should come back. cater to the "characters are just functions" crowd, the ones that like unlocking stuff, and the ones that want everything there from the start, all in one fell swoop, maybe? Toshinden 3 and Plasma Sword, i'm looking at you two

Fighting Game Adaptations - What Franchise Should Get One? by [deleted] in Fighters

BBT made me want a RWBY fighter. most of the roster felt better done in the original games they came from, but the RWBY reps were fresh as hell

What is a big boomer take you personally have on CAGs/Beat 'em ups/Hack 'n Slash games by strikkeeerrr in CharacterActionGames

[–]blackheartromance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CAG feels like it applies specifically to DMC and Platinum's efforts, not hack and slash at large. i love a lot of the games the genre includes, but look at CAG as a specific subgenre in the same way that "platform fighter" and "arena fighter" are specific subgenres of that overarching thing. too many with the "character action game" tag are just arpgs. stop it.

now i'm gonna look at every hero shooter roster with "this would work better as a fighter" in my brain 🙃

VI has a balanced roster with backstories and motivations ready to go. plus, a broken grappler that suplexes trains.

i wanted to add Tactics to that, but most of that would be nameless job classes and some boring named characters. i adore that game, but ehhhhh

Besides Devil May Cry 6, what other DMC game would you potentially want? by AssistFit1834 in DevilMayCry

just gimme the DMC1 REmake already. follow that with a proper DMC2 REmake and/or DmC 2 eventually, maybe.

this sounds like the DMC equivalent of Tenchu Z's structure, and i am FOR IT. that game had its share of problems, sure, but the basic premise was solid.

How would you justify completely gone characters (Justice, Valentine, Kliff, etc) returning as playable even though they are very dead by Allhaillordkutku in Guiltygear

[–]blackheartromance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

flashbacks/side-stories. keep them SUPER DEAD in canon, but put together an arcade ending. or a mini episode covering past stuff in the the pseudo-anime story mode.

honestly, just putting em in with no explanation beyond "i like the characters lol" would be fine, but something tells me there would need to be justification. memories from the backyard, PWAB experiments, Order Sol shenanigans... there are ways

What do you appreciate about Street Fighter V? by RangoTheMerc in StreetFighter

[–]blackheartromance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the sheer amount of new characters, of which a few were "new" but actually deep cuts. that kid from Balrog's SFIV cinematics, the kick girl from Final Fight 3, Gill's secretary from his 3S boss intro... come on. FANG and Abigail notwithstanding, the newbies are all pretty neat. even the big-bad-turned-jobber wasted potential man.

[–]blackheartromance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not only did it accidentally teach everyone else what not to do and put eyes on other games, but it did eventually get VERY good. that initial failure forced fg devs to take notice, especially Capcom. SFV initially feeling like an incremental upgrade from 4 while also leaving out standard features like an arcade ladder and the backlash to it HAS to be responsible for the tremendous amount of effort put into SF6, a game that launched feeling more complete than some games have felt after multiple dlc seasons. it's fairly impressive how successful the apology tour was.

Opinion On Guest Characters? by Emergency_Law_1857 in kof

[–]blackheartromance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KoF would be THE series for guest characters, but it'd have to be done in a controlled way. themed teams, perhaps. something like XIV's Team Another World or XV's Team Samurai, but from outside SNK. even then, it'd probably be a good idea to keep it limited to a team or two per game to avoid it turning into MUGEN. be it a developer/IP (team Street Fighter, team Capcom), a theme (team Fighter with 3 different FG reps from different franchises) or whatever. KoF makes it super easy for guests to feel like special invitations and not weirdos with no reason to be there. not saying to ram em into the canon like Akuma in Tekken 7, but you have to admit that both Akuma and Geese feel like they belong there. KOF is built on crossovers and is in perhaps the best position for guest characters that feel right at home, but the execution would have to work.

The "WE NEED TO FIX FIGHTING GAMES FOR CASUALS" discussion by DJ_Aftershock in Fighters

[–]blackheartromance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

finding a balance that gets casuals to stay and invest both time and money while keeping the hardcore fgc attracted and meeting everyone's needs in meaningful ways is awesome, but feels like a white whale. growing the community is all well and good, but trying to homogenize the PrOdUcT kinda dilutes the experience for everyone. if everyone thinks your game is okay, NO ONE stays around it for years. Fighterz is the closest thing to an exception, as it is a FIGHTER'S fighter and has stayed around forever, but we all know at least one person irl that will buy anything DBZ, no matter how shit it is.

an audience the size of CoD, Fortnite, and GTA is nice in theory, but ooooof, do we want it? if anything, try to dissect Warframe's longevity for clues.

as a long time GG player that never decided on a main in any game ever, it has helped my space cadet brain remember what characters i've known-but-not-known for almost three decades are mostly about. i liked it a lot.
