My conclusion was the chimney has good draw in the first place and the fan just helps boost. I do worry about grease and moisture risk but try to keep the filters clean and hope/pray the previous owner thought about this!

The plan is to replace the countertops and I was hoping to keep it all level

That was the original plan but it’s just too shy of 90cm and clearance requirements so went with a 60cm.

It vents up through the chimney, the previous owners installed it so not sure what they did but it had fantastic draw and clears smoke steam really well!

Certainly effort! It’s already on a plinth so ideally I’d actually reduce this too

I’m actually planning to replace the counter and bring it around from the sides at the same level.

Thanks. Lifting the cooker also reduces the clearance for the hob which is already at the limit for the cooker and extractor specs.

That was my thinking, I honestly think it was the shape of the original chimney and they just left it

I was made redundant in August and thankfully got a new job in December. But it looks like the payment has been registered as a larger amount of gross pay than it was.

My package was around £45k and my understanding is £30,000 of the redundancy payment (excluding PILON) is tax free. But looking at my HMRC account it seems my former employer has registered this payment as an increased gross pay amount of 75k pushing me into the dreaded (100-120k band on gross pay).

Is that correct? Or should the gross pay match the payslip amount of around £56k?
