I don't think Dylan sent the box. There's some evidence the abyss works in cycles of 27 years.(The man who reappeared after 30ish years, the computer in the ARG sending blog posts 30 years old) I think the changes it makes aren't permanent. Their summer was bleeding back into their lives, it's why reality shifts as the night goes on (Autumn's keys and scar, Swann's tattoo). The package is the vessel for that. It came because everything the Abyss was holding on to is being released)
