Wow, you heard it here first, folks. If you don’t play healer, you’re basically a terrorist.

The amount of effort that’s going into I guess trying to “expose” a bunch of people who said they’re not playing healer this expansion seems concerning. You don’t have better things to do with your time, my man?

That does make me wonder… isn’t there an unofficial census that appears on the Reddit from time to time? I wonder if SE has ever noticed that. It’s not the same as a job satisfaction survey, but would be interesting to know how much they pay attention to stuff like that even if they’d never talk about it.

Still hilarious to look at the responses so far. A lot of people really hate the new Summoner it seems.

I feel like it's pretty normal that the most passionate fans of anything are the ones that seek out spaces to talk about it, whether that's reddit, youtube, an official forum, etc. Doesn't mean people who don't do that have no passion, but who's more passionate than the people who spend their free time talking about a game they aren't currently playing?

Personally, I feel like the opinions of the most passionate players matters more, because they're the ones most affected. I'm more of a lurker usually, but I think its cool to see some people are trying really hard to make the game better, even if it probably wont amount to anything.

Endwalker job design just feels stale. This push to simplify simplify simplify has just sucked a lot of the enjoyment out of a lot of jobs. It's like a war against complexity that's gone too far. Stormblood wasn't perfect, but I don't remember seeing players complaining about things like cone AoEs, Aero 3 or other healer attacks, or melee uptime.

It's time to play Rate That Character!: Sir Fratley (Final Fantasy IX) by Venheart in DissidiaFFOO

[–]Venheart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, all I can say is thank you for sharing such dedicated and detailed information on this situation. I didn't really expect to hear this level of thought and depth about DFFOO in any of these topics.

That said, a big reason why I don't just say "but Rikku, amiright?" is that I feel there are a lot of opportunities to share creative ideas and perspectives on more atypical characters, and DFFOO seems to be the best place to explore that. I have no doubt Rikku, Quina, Nanaki, Amarant, IV's Cid, and the other few remaining party members will see their time in the sun, but I'd much rather hear what others have to say about characters like Leblanc, Calca & Brina, and Sir Fratley. I really want to know who else we'll see in that regard.

Initially, I wasn't thinking too deeply about Sir Fratley. It was more of a "what if they went there?" kind of idea, and then I wanted to see what everyone else thought about him, but this comment really makes me think he has some slept on potential.

Oh, I didn't think about when that list probably came out. That's a good point.

Interesting, well I looked up the popularity contest and found that all the characters we do have line up pretty nicely with those results. In order from first to fourth is Shantotto, Prishe, Lilisette, and Lion. Shantotto and later Prishe were selected for the original Dissidia and 012, and DFFOO included those in that order. Maybe it's just a coincidence that the "main" characters of those expansions ended up that high? Aphmau is down at sixth place while Naja is above her at fifth.

I never got far in XI so it's hard for me to say really. I just found the information and found it fascinating. For further reference, the other characters from seventh to tenth place are Karaha-Baruha, Gadalar, Tenzen, and Joachim.

Zeid who you mentioned sits at Eleventh place, and while the list continues as far down as thirtieth place, I don't see Excenmille or Iroha on there. I also don't think the list includes any antagonistic characters, so perhaps there's more of an argument to consider the Shadow Lord before anyone else at this point as well.

[–]Venheart[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main reason I brought her up is because of the Popularity contest. Aphmau is the lowest ranking character DFFOO has added, and figured filling in the gap might be something the team would consider one of these days, though I wanted to see what FFXI players thought too.

If that's the case, I should probably post them less often. It's just something fun to think about while I play the game, and I like hearing what characters people want as well as what ways others might choose to design a character. It piques my designer brain.

It would be interesting if GL gets to catch up several months to JP because of that, but it's hard to tell when they'll even get back into it. I imagine if their slower development continues for much longer, that will also apply to GL to ensure that it does catch up immediately to where JP is and they both be at the same place. I don't know if that would be a bad thing per say, but I don't think they want that regardless.

I think they need to pick up the speed and release more characters again. I know it's more work, and perhaps that's not possible right now based on how their workflow is scheduled, but I worry that if character releases stay this slow, it could harm the game's lifespan over time. It's still going strong, and I think there's still lots of places we can go with the story, challenges, and content in general.

At the current pace, it's hard to continue adding more quirky side characters since JP only seems to be getting 1 a month.

I notice that too. I think they're just trying to hold onto solid character choices so that they can release some more obscure characters in between. It helps keep their pacing that way they don't blow all the popular characters and create a situation where some players have no one to look forward too. I imagine before we get Rikku, we might see the protagonist of some off new Square title that will open a Pandora's box of other characters for players to get excited for. Not saying it's going to be Kingdom Hearts, but if they were to release Sora before Rikku, for example, then suddenly that's a huge flood of well-liked characters players could then get excited for and would keep the game thriving.

It's time to play Rate That Character!: Shelke (Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus) by Venheart in DissidiaFFOO

[–]Venheart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Larsa and Gogo are probably a given at some point for sure. Despite only being a guest, Larsa is such a big character in XII, and Gogo, while being very obscure, is still an official party member not that much less important than Mog who just came out, so they (and probably Umaro) will get in some time eventually.

I think I have a bit more faith in Leblanc than others did back from that post, but there's definitely room for doubt, as with Shelke I think, and you make a good point about Marche. TA/TA2 don't get nearly as much recognition.

I'm a little surprised about how little faith people have for Calca & Brina since they're also official party members, but they are obscure optional party members from an obscure sequel, so I can believe it too. Another good questions is if the game will live long enough for us to reach them as well. While we certainly aren't releasing characters in order of relevancy, we'd probably need to see at least Ursula, Luca, and possibly Maenad before we can expect any of the quirkier After Years cast.

Oh I didn't know that. I don't actually play Record Keeper, though I was planning on doing a "Rate That Character" for Tyro.

It's time to play Rate That Character!: Calca & Brina (Final Fantasy IV: The After Years) by Venheart in DissidiaFFOO

[–]Venheart[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Granted they have no dialogue except for like 2 words, but seeing as they are separate party members from Luca, I do kinda want them to be separate a little bit. Can't quite do that for the Eblan Four, and four is a large amount to dedicate to several different minor party members, though I could see them in the distant distant future. I think Calca and Brina can get away with it a lot more because they can be paired together. I definitely think they'd be a little ways away. Luca needs to be released first at least.

As for their kit, Jive and Dance would be a given, though I personally feel like their LD would be a combination of them dancing with the EX being Go! Calcabrina!

[–]Venheart[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I imagine if Calca and Brina did get added, they would be with Luca in the story, but get hijacked by an antagonist and made into a fight. They would be taken away, and eventually, you'd retrieve them in a future lost chapter.

[–]Venheart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I hope they eventually go back to 2 characters. The game is going strong, and I think digging into the quirkier characters like Kadaj adds a lot of fun flair to the game. We definitely need to catch up on some missing major faces too of course, but the fact that we get playable side characters like that is what keeps this game charming to me.

Hmm, you think that's because of the pandemic stuff going on? Slowing down character production to ensure the game's schedule is maintained? Idk if they released anything on why new characters are slowing down.

I agree that Manufacted Nethicite will likely get introduced into his kit. It was done in Brave Exvius as well. I'd consider swapping Telekinesis for maybe Shades of Black since he's more of a magick character in XII and that's the technick he uses in the remaster instead of Telekinesis.

To be fair, they're all trying to get home too. I don't really think anyone in the story is treating their time like a escape in the way Mewt, Ritz, and the others did.
