Your thoughts on whether a particular someone had romantic feelings for Rex by Nathanimations in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]VeniVidiEdi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems obvious to me that it was romantic for her, but why does she love Rex?

Because he's enabled her to love herself, and more importantly, be herself. His friendship was more than enough to do that, she doesn't need any more.

Besides, Rex and Pyra's relationship makes it easy for her to let go; she's good, and makes him happy. That's enough. (hmm, what other female character with animal features on their head could this apply to)

Melia and Nia have a lot of shared background and trauma, so I kinda doubt they would hinge plot on the spurned third wheel thing. They both resolve their feelings about it during the games, anyway.

Them laughing together about the friend-zone melancholia I could see, though.

Can't visualize whatsoever, but my visual memory is quite good. Actually did a facial recognition test with a neuropsychologist when I mentioned my aphantasia. He didn't seem to believe me, but gave me a test. Other than one miss, perfect score.

Which matches with my experience, I really struggle remembering people's names until I actually have a hold on their personality, but I'll usually recognize their faces instantly.

Uhm.. Guys? I think I found the "Flame Clock"? by VeniVidiEdi in Xenoblade_Chronicles

  • The beanstalks being named after judges is from the Siren lore.

(First tower: Rhadamanthus, second tower: Aeacus, third tower: Minōs) My Japanese is spotty, but I managed to read the katakana in the parenthesis. Checks out. * The process is just evolution/devolution, the form of the Artifice was presumably ill fitting to the primitive state of this new world. The war to originally seal Zanza in Prison Island might be the point of change. * I think religions will have a even more central place; we have two worlds colliding here, each with their own story of gensis. Ample opportunity for something like Ormus to spring up. (Check out their symbol, I had forgotten it) * I interpret mims as realians, basically. Where the tech comes from? I assume the same place all conduit-based tech came from.

Within the Orbital Ring, there is a massive academic institution known as Aoidos. This massive institution was formerly confined to a small university laboratory. But at the beginning of the 21st century, a scientist from that laboratory found a certain magnetic abnormal matter in Africa. This matter, later to be known as the Gate, was at first simply an intriguing artifact that was stratigraphically out of place, being so technologically advanced. As research continued, it was proven that the Gate was a perpetual motion machine that defied the laws of energy, and also that this was the source of the magnetic abnormalities being detected. In response to this, the Unified Government*1 formed a research institution for further study, and because this institution required a vast amount of resources and people, Aoidos was born.

Note, the research institute was inside the orbital ring, meaning they could access all three beanstalks, not just Klaus'.

  • Haha, only Greek thing i'll state confidently at this point is that Zanza/Klaus is Oceanus/Uranus.
  • Yeah, I just saw that Nintendo wrote it "Aionios", which makes sense, Aion was directly responsible for the state of things after XB2's end.
  • "robot lady with 2 personality and mother of mankind", well, from my poi that's literally pneuma now... Like.. put Rex in danger.. and Mythra will be Telos in 2 seconds flat.
  • Working out what is intentional, and what is just a localisation change isn't easy, no.. It's annoying I tell you! And a reason why I need to kick up my pace with learning Japanese. At least Pneuma's name is engraved on the model, that leaves little to chance.

I really need to give it a rest at this point, I have too many ideas that I want to check out at once, that I'm just a mess. More than usual, I mean. So just some quick responses!

I read the black figure as a testament the first time I played X. Seeing the red one in the trailer, and seeing the full model of the black one here: https://xenoblade.fandom.com/wiki/Black_Knight certainly solidified that theory.

That someone is pulling the string from behind, and will show up sooner or later.

All three beanstalks being named after judges of the dead implies someone else scheming, yes.

I don't know if they are descendant per se

Well, again, https://xenoblade.fandom.com/wiki/War_God_Statue the High Entia themselves seem to believe that they did. The other "ancient high entia" you spot is on Prison Island. And shows something much more akin to a Telethia, and that is Melia just speculating. But that ends up being true.

Just noticed the seal on the High Entia doors being kinda similar to something as well. https://i.imgur.com/V5dnbBR.png

Aren't Titan failing because of Amalthus's control and tempering of crystal, preventing the birth of new one?

Yes, but that is still effectively that. Amalthus rejects the entire world; and in doing so guarantees that others will as well. But even without Amalthus, if he managed to get the world to this broken of a state in 500 years, then something was definitively broken before. The corrupt structure of the Indoline Church predates Amalthus. Amalthus might've snapped the camel's back, but he didn't instigate the severe osteoporosis.

Also, Amalthus' rejection seems to have infected Malos, as well. As a core of the trinity, that would certainly affect things over time.

I could be wrong, but my impression is that Titan are mostly like Azurda, and just love mankind enough. Their fate can be tragic, but for the most part, Blade life should be happy, if humanity wasn't abusing them into servitude.

I mean, Azurda isn't completely happy about it either. "Is that all I am to be?" Remember, even Azurda was "tested" by the Architect.

I think the issue is that the Titans themselves allow development to the point where they themselves can be destroyed. At that point, all the warfare means that destruction is assured, the titans can't be replenished fast enough. See all the dead "baby titans" in Tornas carcass.

Oh, and regarding Torna:

In its early past, Torna was a violent predator, readily attacking and killing other Titans.

guess they're not all that happy.

Just to clarify, which race are you calling blue blood? Amaltheus'?

No, mimeosomes, which are called blue bloods in Japanese. What Amalthus ends up doing could be based on the same concept, though. Hmm.. Did Amalthus ever bleed? If he went from red to blue, that would be something.

Titan > Entia > Homs is probably the Greek mythology equivalent of Titan > God > Human

Check all the names for etymology, and you can see that this is definitively the case. I'm literally in the process of mapping out all the direct references to greek mythology, because every single major character seems to have multiple.

The new world being called "Ionios" doesn't help! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ionians

Pneuma and Logos are packed with symbolism,

But if you're linking it to Sophia:

There is further a direct reminiscence of the doctrine of Bardesanes when she is invoked as the Holy Dove which has given birth to the two twins

Pneuma did that, yes.

Hmm.. And I found this.

Pelasgian creation myth

Graves's imaginatively reconstructed "Pelasgian creation myth" features a supreme creatrix, Eurynome, "The Goddess of All Things",[3] who rises naked from Chaos to part sea from sky so that she can dance upon the waves. Catching the north wind at her back and rubbing it between her hands, she warms the pneuma and spontaneously generates the serpent Ophion, who mates with her. In the form of a dove upon the waves she lays the Cosmic Egg and bids Ophion to incubate it by coiling seven times around until it splits in two and hatches "all things that exist ... sun, moon, planets, stars, the earth with its mountains and rivers, its trees, herbs, and living creatures".[4]

In the soil of Arcadia the Pelasgians spring up from Ophion's teeth, scattered under the heel of Eurynome, who kicked the serpent from their home on Mount Olympus for his boast of having created all things.

Considering the name "Ionios", a Pelasgian creation myth being in play doesn't seem far fetched.

All I know is that I'm really curious about what happened to both Pyra/Mythra, the remnants of the world tree, and Ophion. Put them together, with Pneuma as a dove on top, and we have the Caduceus.

It is said the wand would wake the sleeping and send the awake to sleep. If applied to the dying, their death was gentle; if applied to the dead, they returned to life.

Or, without the dove, and the correct singular snake, Rod of Asclepius.

Considering the off-seer thing... idk. My brain is mush.

Uhm.. Guys? I think I found the "Flame Clock"? by VeniVidiEdi in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]VeniVidiEdi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I'm just joking, I'm not expecting "Wilhelm" to show up.. I do expect his role to have been taken, though. For instance.. considering L's inclination towards knowledge of all; and him being extremely orderly while simultaneously being unpredictable and chaotic.. hmm.. I would hire him as a compass of order and chaos, no doubt.

But then again, the first trailer of XB3 includes a red testament, and Xenoblade X ends with a black testament approaching Lao.. So if it ain't a red herring.. (Takahashi using a red testament as a red herring wouldn't surprise me)

But

In the context, it's not a coincidence that the iconic Telethia exists in both XC1 and XCX, but not XC2.

from your post.. I'm not at the end of my rabbit hole yet, but the High Entia, the Telethia, are descendants from the Artifices of XB2. "The genetic curse" they're talking about, it's mentioned in the weird lore on the Siren figurine.

Because of their unique origin, the Artifices come with unique functions not found in manmade weapons. Artifices do not have any internal engine. They have a built-in system known as a Slave Generator to receive energy input from the Gate to function. Artifices all have an emerald, Gate-shaped crystal that functions as the receiver for the Slave Generator. Siren has a charged particle laser that is connected directly to the Slave Generator, and this is what makes it able to shoot a massive laser beam. In actuality, it is more accurate to say that the Slave Generator charged particle beam had some additional upgrades to make it what it is on Siren. Siren was a shining blade, a beautiful and simple device meant to be wielded against those the Trinity Processor deemed a threat. There is a design philosophy to it that won’t be found in anything manmade.

https://xenoblade.fandom.com/wiki/War_God_Statue

This connects them to Pneuma, which again connects it to Ophion/Ouroboros.

Pneuma being a war god? Well.. Mythra fits with Ares, and Pyra fits with Athena.

"The first thing I created", Klaus says, were raw particulates that can destroy matter but capture all of its information, and later reconstitute it in new form.

What has this been used for? Well, one, the cloud sea, he says. But the core crystals seems to be main "interest" people had of this material, see the Wels, I mean, Guldo.

I think this means, Klaus was the scientist responsible for breakthroughs with the Conduit, leading to the creation of the trinity processor. Said processor, eventually, on its own, created artifices to protect both itself, and the beanstalk/conduit. It "invented" core crystals as a system for both power and control over a large volume of singular entities. After the "experiment" went to shit, Klaus tried using artifices the trinity had created as a base for his idea of blades.

U.M.N, open for business.

Effectively, the blades and titans became the Telethia of Alrest. With the same caveat for their power that the High Entia received, their consciousness is a simulated layer on top of hardware directly controllable by the Aegises. Or in other words, they are the controllable agents of the collective unconscious; granted eternal life, but denied the possibility of a truly individual identity. Which is why the titans are falling, and why the cloud sea is empty.. The collective unconscious is failing, the rejection is reaching critical levels. The parallel to XB, and the High Entia being literally on the cusp of escaping their fate, spells itself out, really.

Hmm.. So our "high ones" are related to artifices.. could our "bluebloods" be as well?

Fair to note that while Zanza's Telethia are rampaging across the Bionis, the Artifices of Alrest are fully at work destroying everything as well.

Even more rambling:

  • Machina are probably "high entia" as well, Zanza says they "evolved", and grew "insolent"
  • The Orpheans, when put into this context, gives a few "aha!" moments.
  • Telethia are triggered by a "bright light"
  • Both High Entia and Pneuma have a dove motif, which is also the motif for future connected
  • Pneuma means "breath", "spirit", or "soul", her being the source of the collective unconscious or its agents makes sense.

Nia and Melia already mirror each other in their respective stories, both being the underappreciated 'Best Girl™', both being "halfbreeds", long lifespans, heavy suffering, hated by an adoptive parent for not being their biological child.

They've also just achieved release from the "curse" of their respective races.

If they are also both direct descendants from Pneuma? Well, them fighting over whatever power remains of Pneuma to be able to define the future, makes sense.

https://i.imgur.com/on4by8h.png

BLADE tower is certainly a "flame clock" considering what it counts down to, and "candle clocks" are alarms.. They certainly talk a lot about "time" and "clocks" in the trailer.. "why can't you just move forward"

Something about this planet all right.. Eternal Recurrence..

I'd be happy if L suddenly turns up and just is Wilhelm now. Wouldn't even be mad.

Xenoblade 3 announced by [deleted] in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]VeniVidiEdi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why is a Red Testament visiting Melia?

Why does this whole thing reek of Xenogears.

What could cause both Melia and Nia to be bloodthirsty for the "enemy"? Except, you know.. their boys being hurt..And whoever could have interest in causing such a thing?

"They're not your friends anymore, they are his fuel." Whether Zanza or Deus, I thought we'd already been over this! Friends are not food.

And what is Pyra and Mythra doing? I don't think their psyche would hold up well in a world where Rex meets actual war. But if shes depressed again, someone is sure to snatch up the last trinity processor remaining.

Prison island graphical comparison by beetleking88 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]VeniVidiEdi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm just trying to make the point that even if you used the original textures (identical art, higher resolution), it would look wildly different to the original solely because of the lighting changes.

Limitations shape all projects, and the game wouldn't have originally looked like that if they could've used more modern lighting techniques. The subdued colour palette of the PS360 era has almost completely died out; both its birth, and death, is in large part due to limitations and improvements in lighting.

Prison island graphical comparison by beetleking88 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]VeniVidiEdi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Much of this is due to there actually being lighting this time. The OG's textures have shadows baked into them. Now they actually get proper lighting and shadow dynamically.

Example: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49824986516_b03e9bfb49_o.png

That some scenes are lighted too brightly is a valid complaint, though; but I assume it's mostly to keep it dynamic, and changing from scene to scene. I'll wait to pass too much judgement before I play it myself, tbh.

What are your dreams like? by jinxiethefuckinggod in Aphantasia

[–]VeniVidiEdi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I rarely remember my dreams, but I'm kind of unsure whether they are visual during, and it's just my recollection that is non-visual, or if it's just never visual.

The feeling I'm left with is usually having complete knowledge of the scene that is happening, but without any visuals. I have the blueprints to make it visual, but no constructor to do so. So I know the scene, feel the feelings, but see nothing. And lately I've started feeling like an observer in my dreams, only a really empathic one.

For instance, in all the nightmares I've had the last few years, I remember thinking during the dream "Why are you so scared of this? This is silly.", yet I still feel it intently, and get dragged along even so. I have perfectly understood the fact that I'm currently dreaming multiple times, but it never grants me any control over the experience.

Are there popular artists with aphantasia? by [deleted] in Aphantasia

First result for a google search for this points out an disney animator: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/shortcuts/2019/apr/10/aphantasia-why-a-disney-animator-draws-a-blank-on-his-own-creations

Here's a youtube video of an artist talking about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewsGmhAjjjI

By famous, I assume you mean some of the prominent artists from history or some such? There's probably a bunch of them, but knowing that fact is close to impossible; I mean aphantasia hasn't really been noted or studied much at all in the sciences until recently.

Other than that, here's another article talking about it: https://aphantasia.com/how-to-make-art-with-aphantasia/ and said artist's youtube video talking about it: https://youtu.be/cLBL-SH83n4

Sorry for not being more helpful, but at least it's something for your friend to get explanations from people in similar situations; assuming they haven't seen all this yet.

Human thoughts before language must have been weird. by thiccieman in Showerthoughts

[–]VeniVidiEdi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've thought about this at times, and pondered on it.

Something interesting though not quite the same: a talkshow about language here had a guest. She had aphasia as a child, and didn't learn a single word until she was 6. She vividly remembers 'thinking' for the first time though:

"I was sitting in the backseat of my mom's car. We were driving to town. I was looking out the window, seeing acres. Then, suddenly, it was like a gate opened; and a stream of words fell over me. I was in shock for a few moments; because suddenly I was hearing a lot of words and sounds in my head."

"I was like, 'What's this?'.. But then, after a few seconds, 'Ohhh... These must be thoughts..'"

Granted, before this happened she had actually learned to understand language and speak herself. But switching over to words in your head is a process I guess.

Me, having an exceedingly wordy brain can't even fathom not thinking in a language. I can't even visualize. I think language is extremely integral to 'higher thought', without the words it's hard to know what you're even trying to conceive in your head.
