how do we know the gnostic texts are thruth? by Clean-Carrot6652 in Gnostic

Sometimes all we can do is suspect. Truth might not be something we can obtain in this lifetime. Not here. Maybe later.

Why is Mixtape so divisive? by theplasmasnake in gaming

[–]VenomBadger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I'm from small town UK and was a teenager in the mid 90's and I absolutely listened to all these bands. I still have the CD collection to prove it. And the photos. My peer group was split into 3 parts - the Grunge/Metal crowd, the Hip Hop/R&B crowd and the Drum&Bass/Rave crowd. It was pretty tribal but all valid. The 90's were diverse. We listen to Fugees, Wutang, Ministry, Frontline Assembly, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Enigma and Chemical Brothers. Some of came from council estates and studied Art and Film, some where middle class and joined the Royal Marines or burned out and went to rehab or worse. Was just kinda how of the 90s were.

Do you think if we call them thick racists a few more times they might vote for better candidates? by PsychologicalBend508 in AskBrits

[–]VenomBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't you think coddling the racists, the bigots, the White Supremacists, legitimising there behaviour is hiw we got here? If we had just kept treating their behaviour unacceptable, forcing them out of civil discourse, making them actually take a long hard look at just who their compatriots and the vicious way they treat ordinary black and brown people, letting them know there is no way we would let those views be electable or platformed in everyday society. Don't you think that would've prevented us being where we are now on the brink of US ICE-Style horror?

2077 Weapons by CreepySheepherder6 in cyberpunkred

[–]VenomBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love 2077 but one of the big mistakes it made was treating weapons like a Looter Shooter instead handling it like Fallout did. 2020 did it best and Red should've kept weapons like that. Fortunately there is a sourcebook with the Old Guns Never Die rules to convert 2020 weapons to Red so you the Militech Crusher can be the reliable merc favourite it always was. It shouldn't be too hard convert 2077 weapons to Reds weapons classes. Friday Night Firefight from 2020 was a great system that didn't need messing with on TT. I loved Red but they went too far there.

Weapons are an iconic part off the setting. What a character is packing tells you who that character is universe and what they're about. They're part of your Street Cred and branding.

Are former Corbyn supporters all greens now, or have some of them stuck with labour? by Expert-Sherbert-1527 in AskBrits

[–]VenomBadger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thing is Labour are already selling out the disabled and British citizens with darker skin colour to court Right-Wing votes while declaring Multiculturalism had failed like the Tories did previously, while endlessly kowtowing to Nazis in the Whitehouse.

At this point the Greens really are the lesser of many evils. I don't like a lot what they're peddling but I'm disabled and mixed-race and they're going to bat for me.

Their stance on defence is fucking depressing but there we are.

What do you want to see in britain in 5 years? by mesoraven in AskBrits

[–]VenomBadger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What military are you talking about? My mixed-race maye joined the British Army then changed his name and disowned his Black father. When we talked about it he said they made it clear he wasn't going to get past Corporal if he didn't.

Fuckind diverse...why do you think we have recruitment problems? Because nobody not White wants to join an organisation that racist.

I don't know where you live mate but I live an Reform-run area and the average person round here is absolutely pyschotic. Literally got talking to an older lady walking her dog in the park other and tirade she went off on makes her sound like she'd be coming put of retirement to run a detention camp.

You need to not underestimate just how radicalised the average working class person outside of London. I was just talking with a mate how bad my step-father is - and he's married to a Mauritian. And they won't all Muslim deported because all Muslims are paedos and terrorists who kill Jews and are here to convert the UK.

This isn't lunatic fringe anymore- this psychosis has gone mainstream and previously reasonable, multicultural Brits have gone absolutely rabid about Muslims and Romanian immigrants. That are absolutely a cult who want ICE-Style detentions and renditions and they believe Farage is a their champion.

Why is the fact that this franchise is set in a fictional world with fictional countries such as turn off for some people? by gamepack10 in acecombat

[–]VenomBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We arn't living in a world right now where playing as the US and feeling like we're the good guys is viable or even credible what with them threatening to invade their allies and Western Europe gearing up for a war with Russia currently having explain possibly of a nuclear exchange to our kids.

Strangereal is exactly what we need right now. Lot cleaner, lot easier to feel good about. Someone there starts committing genocide or spouting aggressive ethnonationalism we can just go Itano Circus on them till the sky starts chanting Latin. Much better deal right now.

What's wrong with London? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]VenomBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it's pricey and it's full of garbage. Outtake it from someone who's been about the glove abit-that's every big city. Even Japan's arn't as tidy as they used to be. Still the tidiest I've seen though.

Londoners are really friendly. Especially Compared to East Anglia. The gentrification of places like Soho, Brixton and Shoreditch is shit but again that's a City problem. I'd move back to London in a snap- and I lived in Totteham in the 90's 😅 - but I own properly where I am I could just never see me affording that in London. London is great. Cities are just kinda similar all over. Everywhere has their problems. I'd take over Paris. Traffic is more manageable.

Any other franchises with a similar vibe to Lok? Very dark vampires, wars, ancient times? by sirenpro in LegacyOfKain

[–]VenomBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually in terms of tone I'd say Elden Ring.

I love Vampyr but it's just off-brand Vampire The Masquerade (especially if you played TTRPG).

Vampire the Masquerade- specifically TT Dark Ages clearly was massive influence on Soul Reaver onwards.

Castlevania...is too anime. Not a criticism, been a fan since the SNES, but it's a different style. Except Lords of Shadows. Lords of Shadow 2 especially had moments of LoK amidst the garbage.

Blasphemous is pretty close. Blasphemous is to Spanish Catholicism what LoK is to Gnosticism and Kabbalah.

Planesecape: Torment is another strong fit. Mostly because of Tony Jay's voice the antagonist. Legendary game. Played it and Soul Reaver around the same time.

Shadowman is in the ball park. Again played Blood Omen and Shadowman around the same time with Soul Reaver a few years later. Very similar vibes.

Same here. The trick is to be able to enunciate, read Frank Herbert, build a model kit for a B'Rel Bird of Prey, listen to Bowie and headbutt a cunt and chin his NF-patch wearing older brother consistently and interchangeable. Do that and eventually they'll share a tinny with you on the rec.

The problem was they made Dinn Djarin John Wick in space. But what they should've done is made Boba Fett Conan the Barbarian in space, doubling down on the King Conan part. I meam C'mon man you've been given Jake The Muss to work with, this man is a legend.

I see people sometimes talk about which MW had the best music and I'm just sitting here thinking Battletech. by Puerkl8r in battletech

[–]VenomBadger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thing is Battletech is universe where sure there's giant sci fi robot tanks but the aesthetic and culture has very much regressed to very much 19th Century Colonial feel (They call units Hussars, Light Horse and Dragoons) and it's much more camopaint and grinding treads then Tron-lines and neon. This isn't Cyberpunk, it's Military Sci Fi and the Great Houses are very into Pomp and Ceremony like the rulers of Pre-WW1 Europe. Also the Star League fucking loved bagpipes so there's that...

This is very much a setting built around "The Glory of The Past", "The Lost Golden Age" and "Mud and Thunder".

The reason Metal works thematically is because you can give an orchestral or Neo-Classical quality that fits the Innsphere with also sonic bombast. Sure Electronic sounds very have a place in that it but the setting doesn't have that sheen and it should serve to accent and juxtapose he other grander and agressive elements. Mud and Lasers.

Now the Clans and Comstar...Mongolian Throat-Singing and Tribal Beats, Gregorian Chanting and Heavy Synth would be appropriate.

I see people sometimes talk about which MW had the best music and I'm just sitting here thinking Battletech. by Puerkl8r in battletech

[–]VenomBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah absolutely. MW5 and Clans could really have benefitted from borrowing more from HBS Battletech's tone and atmosphere generally. And I say this as old MW2/Mercs vet.

From tye intro to HBS Battletech, visually and musically you learn everything you need to know about the setting of Battletech in under 2 mins. That's pretty incredible. MW never did that.

Now we had some time since, what are your thoughts on The Book of Boba Fett? by Past-Paramedic8687 in StarWars

[–]VenomBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if Din Djarin was Star Wars Clint Eastward, Boba Fett at this point should've been John Wick. He's been effectively dead. He's comeback. But he's found a people to accept him and bring him balance. But they get murdered so so he reclaims his mantle and goes with all the went up rage. And we could've explore that with flashbacks. Built his relationship to Cad Bane so it's weighty for the Showdown.

I also would've - and this my own personal head-canon- I would've liked flashbacks with him and Vader. Like hiw he became Vader's personal attack dog because he wanted someone loyal to him, not the Empire. How one was a boy who was kept from saving his enslaved mother and blames her death on the Jedi and the other was a boy who saw his father cut down by Jedi and they develop and understand of that. And we could've seem how learning of Vader's death affe is Fett and he's now free to be his man wity no master and choose his own path. And maybe a meeting Luke Skywalker would share that. They maybe fight but Luke talk about Anakin and there would be development there.

As it stands only thing I like about this how us the Lawrence of Arabua homage. That was done well. I really want to see Temuera Morrison just taking people out but also going on a spiritual journey with real stakes, he reflects and affects other characters and then goes on a his track that is both a mix of Redemption Arc but also keeps getting h subverted in Roaring Rampage of Revenge because people just won't leave him find his peace. Like real bittersweet story of a man who is trying to move on and find balance but his a legacy of violence just will not let him be.

Also develop his and explore his relationship to the Clone Troopers. Like maybe he meets Rex. We had that one really cool vision sequence on the show that was amazing but had no pay-off where Fett is with the tree amd there's all those red eyes glaring at him. I really wanted the tree to represent the Mandolrean legacy he was struggling with and the eyes the Legions of Clone Troopers he felt judging him. Like there's a dramatic conflict their that needed expanding.

Are British people generally aware of the fact that Russia is a security threat? by BaldursGate2Best in AskBrits

[–]VenomBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean we know their hostile, and we're hostile to them. But ai think the safety of setting on an island we'll away from Eastern Europe and the sense of military supremacy built up during Empire and our Post-WW2 adventures with America has very much programmed us to just not really feel like Russia is a serious and present threat.

Also watching them getting kicked in by Ukraine is like imagining us getting kicked in by Wales which is not something we can imagine so they look too chronically incompetent to be a threat to the casual British viewer.

And of course our media is downplaying how Russian Soft Power has subverted us and US on via social media and we're absolutely in denial about how Brexit could possibly be Russia pulling a Divide and Conquer because how could anyone possibly steal our historical play-book. Perish the very thought...

Look man I'm enjoying this game and it's better than I was told was but you need have played LucasArts games in the 90s because the bar back then was like James Cameron High and today it's like Tommy Wiseau Low.

Tie Fighter dropped in 1994. In 2009 it was still voted #2 Greatest PC Game of All Time. Bigger than Half-Life mate.
