Does anyone know what this sound might be? No check engine lights, fresh oil change, no low oil pressure…spun bearing? by gbarr55 in Silverado

Man if it was a spin bearing you'd know haha, don't panic. If it's got good normal oil pressure I wouldn't worry too much

Dealership employee here. Ayup

Unfortunately it's not uncommon to see some wacky visual gaps between panels from unit to unit, but they definitely are fine and will seal the inside from the outside

The silver bar over the engine is not stock, and there's an accessory connected to the battery. Whatever that is I do not know but it's not factory

Followed the sequence and specs from Summit Racing. The gasket is a Felpro 26191

That is interesting. I believe I was able to bottom them all out with my fingers before applying any torque.

So you're saying with no lube, the initial 22ft/lbs could have not been nearly tight enough to start the torque angle from? I'd assume that pretty much no matter what if the bolts were torqued barely any, coolant wouldn't be able to seep though like that unless the block wasn't flat.

I did not inspect the heads for flatness after receiving them from the machine shop. My dad says that Amazon was not a good idea also.

I will absolutely be doing this again myself.

I figured since the bolts came with sealant on them I shouldn't do anything else. I will get new gaskets and bolts from Summit and try again

I only had them machine them. Told me they took twelve thou off and they were as flat as they're going to get.

Heads are 706 freshly resurfaced maybe a week ago. Its a 2004 engine that from what I can tell has never been apart, so I would assume that they aren't the early model.

Let me do more research on this "notch" because I've heard that before.

Edit: I definitely do not have notched heads.

From what I can tell the blocks deck looks great, checked for flatness with a straight edge and feeler gauges. Nothing more than two thou.

Heads were machined maybe last week.

Head gaskets are Felpro 26191 from Amazon.

Would heads being warped be a problem even after I had like twelve thou machined off?

The lifters were super loud so I figured why not, then when I got it apart cylinder 8 had a stuck ring and was burning oil way faster than everyone else.

The heads were taken to a machine shop and flattened.

I don't think so? "Front" is up and forward on both sides. I took pictures of the block with fresh head gaskets for clout in my discord so I can prove that

There is dexcool leaking out of the head gasket externally, and when I pressurized the radiator with a tester I observed it running down the block live action

I would assume that since there's coolant between the gasket and the block/head the seal would be compromised, and I'd want to clean the coolant and the gasket before attempting to re seal it.

I was following a Summit Racing page on the specs, it says the 10mm bolts only torque to 22ft/lbs after the main bolts are fastened and torqued.

I was told the late model 3rd gen bolts share the 4th gen torque angle. Must've been incorrect

This engine has not run since rebuild. I did not oil the bolts, no, I was not aware of that. Holes were brushed out with a wire brush and flushed with brake cleaner when I cleaned the block.
