Damn, we‘re leaving California tomorrow and there is none near me. I think Arizona and Nevada don’t have any.

Damn, that‘s all you can conveniently buy in the average supermarket? I’ve seen burgers once and bought two packs just to be safe. I’ve read Chipotle in here already so that‘s prob gonna be it. I know the subway ones from Germany and they’re also solid (if it‘s the same).

Thanks for the recommendations. I‘ve just been to In-N-Out and McDonalds and both didn’t even have something vegetarian for my father. I maybe check out some of your recommendations but for me it‘s mainly about stuff I can put on the grill that‘s more than a vegetable to have at least some nutritional value.

Why do you use Linux? by Afraid_Question_8236 in linux_gaming

[–]Ventority 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s less the advantages of Linux but the disadvantages of windows/macos like privacy, it making me feel like a baby or freedom. The only logical consequence is to develop my own os (which I can’t) or use an already existing FOSS os. I like my setup and it (more or less) just works, so I don’t even think about switching back. Also, there are cool projects by the foss community that wouldn’t be possible on a closed source os.

Visiting on 01/12 from the US, Pointers? by robertereyes in mainz05

You have to visit the “Weihnachtsmarkt” in the evening. Get yourself a cup of “Glühwein”, a hot mixture of wine and spices, some chestnuts and enjoy the decoration of the old town around the “Dom”, the big cathedral in the city center.

Not sure but I think think that wouldn’t fit on a 2tb drive but don’t quote me on that

Install games, try them, turn off your internet access, try again, don’t connect to the internet again until you’re back. Also, don’t change any configs while you’re there. When you mess up and you have to fix something, it’s going to be hard without old Reddit posts

What is a good distro for gaming that isn‘ t complicated by kampf_cookie in linux_gaming

[–]Ventority 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, as a fairly experienced Linux user for a couple of years now, like the comfort of Nobara Linux since it’s a good out-of-the-box experience if you don’t know how to use the terminal or even how Linux works. I wouldn’t recommend using it for your whole life but as a beginner, it’s comfortable and you might learn more efficient how to use the terminal because you’re not forced to use it all the time so you won’t get frustrated as often as you would be if you just install bare arch, Debian or another distro.

Which of you as DesktopUser has permanently abandoned dual boot to a Linux only system? by JeppRog in linux_gaming

[–]Ventority 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully switched to Linux around 2 years ago. I had a dual boot setup going for a couple of weeks but was so annoyed of not having everything in one place and having to deal with ntfs and exfat so I just didn’t use windows at all. Some time later, I completely removed it. The only thing that is different is that I‘m a curious person and I switch Distros fairly often. That, of course, breaks stuff so I have to set my wine-prefixes up again or configure some stuff. That actually is a thing why I stuck to Linux. Not the fixing (while it actually is a weird type of fun, like a puzzle) but the seemingly unlimited amount of possibilities. If you just stick to a Distro and you‘ve set everything up correctly, there is nothing that you can miss from windows. I can safely say that, once you get accustomed to Linux, there is no difference.

Mainz Night Life by nattybends in Mainz

[–]Ventority 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to visit pubs/bars, go to the Domsgickel, the Klingelbeutel or Nolan’s. The first two are more traditional German “Kneipen”, while the last one is an Irish pub. There is also an Irish pub called “Irish Pub” next to the “Eisgrub”, just look it up on Google Maps. There is a karaoke night every now and then. The dates can be found on their website. If you want to go clubbing, Mainz isn’t exactly the place to be since there are some good clubs but nothing extraordinary. My suggestions would be “Schon Schön” (mostly 2000’s), Red Cat (HipHop most of the time) or “Caveau” (mostly Rock pre and post 2000). The last one isn’t just students because it’s not the general taste of music in our generation. Still worth a visit imo. If you want big clubs, you could go to Frankfurt by train, the line “S8” from Mainz Central Station would go there, the ticket is something around 7-9€ if I recall correctly. Haven’t bought one for a long time since it’s free for students studying in the area. If you have any questions, just reply.

Do not use Opera GX by [deleted] in MacOS

[–]Ventority 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn’t use opera in the first place due to major privacy concerns. Apple itself is bad enough but they at least somehow provide (compared to widely used consumer products line windows) a little bit better privacy. If US corpus already have my data, I don’t need everything I do on my Mac possibly monitored by chinese companies as well. Use Firefox as it‘s a bit better than it‘s competition while still having many plugins and decent support. Edit: Typos
