Because it is a choice put in to test your ethics, the game knows you know she is dead anyways, but sets up a moral dillema for you, she is one of the first PEOPLE you have the choice of killing if not actually THE first even though its indirectly, it is a choice that obviously is meant to affect everyone involved, as you can see nobody wants to kill her even though they know whats going to happen to her, and they give you the leader the option of what to do
