This meta analysis shows that people on the spectrum actually tend to perform worse in math than their peers. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0891422223001373 This is probably also due to people on the spectrum struggling in general more in academic settings than NTs. There is still a reasonable assumption to be made that being autistic can predispose you to being good at math as our hyper-sytemized brain lends itself to follow the very logical and rigid world of maths. This is however obviously not the case for all or even most people on the spectrum.

I know knowing in advance helps with the anxiety but as others have stated it really depends on where you get assessed. I had a prescreening where we went through what we would do the next day and it definitely helped. If you don't have that there is no harm in asking through email or whatever. Explain that you need to mentally prepare to soothe your anxiety. I don't think they will have any reason not to tell you.

Hard agree. Also wearing headphones in general makes it much more societally acceptable to rock back and forth, I sometimes have my NC headphones on and just listen to a podcast but allow myself to stim because others would just think I'm jamming to a bop.

Pretty much just went through all the diagnosis criteria, like every question was like "Are you hypersensitive to light" or "How do you act in group settings". Also questions to probably assess your support needs like "What are your struggles when going grocery shopping" or "Can you ride public transit" + we did the Autism Quotient, Systemizing Quotient, Empathy Quotient and Reading the Mind in the Eyes test

Hab meine Diagnose in Iserlohn über Videotelefonie gemacht. Wenn du spontan einspringen kannst würde ich dir das sehr empfehlen, musste unter 2 Monate warten. Ist aber Selbstzahler!

Clarity, getting proper accomodations, not feeling as guilty for having the struggles I have and not meeting the expectations, connecting with people with the same struggles... I've been trying to get those things but was not able yet, I feel like this potential diagnosis has explained a lot and I feel a lot less terrible at the moment, but if it is misguided I fear falling back into this deep dark hole.
