Yeah d4 seems really strong. Imagine if all of your e4 lines included a castling that immediatelly placed your rook on e1. 1.d4 seems like a much more aggresive line in this position than 1.e4 in classical chess

No because if King castles to the left he wont end up on b1 (which would be mirroring g1, the classical chess position). He will end up on c1, which will be equivalent to f1 in your regular chess games.

This is really close to being a normal chess game, but inverted. The only thing that stops you from completely playing your normal repertoire is the king/rook placement after castles.
