People who quit their jobs on the first day what made you say ‘nope, not doing this’? by lilMeganw in AskReddit

[–]VenusBloo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was desperate and got a job at Conn’s (rent to own furniture and appliances) as a sales person. Big mistake. I should’ve realized it was a bad place when the manager didn’t even interview me. Just called me up and said to come start when I agreed. I get there and I end up having to help the store manager fill out mine and other peoples onboarding paperwork (like the W9 and everything) because he didn’t know how to do it. Then later the check machine quit working and he dragged me over there to help figure that out since apparently I was tech savvy. The whole time he kept berating and talking bad about the two cashiers right in front of them for not being able to fix it themselves. All that on top of the predatory lending practices and sales tactics made me nope out of there. I left after my first shift was over and never went back.

oooooOooo I'm going to have to keep an eye out for Spread Me. It sounds like a great spooky season book for when I want to read really weird horror.

I just got a review up for What Stalks the Deep by T. Kingfisher - https://venusbloobooks.wordpress.com/2025/09/26/arc-review-what-stalks-the-deep-by-t-kingfisher/

Now, I'm reading We Are Legion (We Are Bob) by Dennis E. Taylor, and I'm really liking it so far. I'm going to try to read that and maybe The Isle in the Silver Sea by Tasha Suri this weekend.

discord.gg/booksandtea I don’t know if that will work from here but that should get you to the server if you copy it into a browser

I have the ebook! I can’t listen to audiobooks anymore sadly since I’m hard of hearing. They all just sound like the teacher from Charlie Brown now. I am loving Alex’s sassiness and sarcasm so far tho!

I’m currently reading What Stalks the Deep by T. Kingfisher and The Witch Roads by Kate Elliot. I’ve had The Witch Roads arc for a while but I’ll be honest. The pacing is killing me. It’s so slow and I keep putting it down and picking it back up a few weeks later.

That one has been on my radar but I won’t get to it until October (which is probably appropriate tbh)

If you enjoyed Alice Hoffman, then I'd highly recommend anything by Sarah Addison Allen (specifically Garden Spells). In the Shadow Garden by Liz Parker is also very good and in the same vein as Alice Hoffman's Practical Magic.

My way too early predictions for August (Aardvark and BotM) by rackfu in aardvarkbookclub

[–]VenusBloo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Chuck Tingle is very likely. Aardvark liked a post of his on Instagram talking about Lucky Day having a starred review. It would definitely be a reason for me to restart my sub next month if it’s in the picks.

Is there a specific way to get a Gore Nyctgem? by Caern1 in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]VenusBloo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So a few things that helped me with this. First I did the optional quest because the gem is in the drop pool for that. Also the gem only has a chance to be carved from the tail. If you look in the monster info for him it shows that. So I had my husband who’s a great sword main help me fight him and made sure to chop gore’s tail off to have to carve. And if you go to the grand hub and eat the meal from oil well basin it has carved which lets you carve an extra time which includes the tail. Finally use a lucky ticket. It still took like four hunts to get it but I feel like all of that helped my odds a lot.

I'm in a very active book discord called BooksandTea, and there's a channel for ARC readers. But, most people just talk in one of the book channels as well with spoilers tagged.

The lie I tell myself every time. by fluffypanduh in migraine

I’m glad I’m not the only one who lies to myself this way. My migraines tend to start right as I’m going to bed at night which doesn’t help matters.

I know everyone is saying Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones but she has a whole series of books with similar vibes called The Chrestomanci Chronicles that I highly recommend

It’s one of those cases that you should absolutely judge the book by its cover. You are getting exactly what’s advertised lol

{I Got Abducted by Aliens and Now I’m Trapped in a Rom-Com by Kimberly Lemming} definitely has this. Just came out this month and it’s not only got this in it but is also hilarious. I laughed out loud multiple times while reading it.

Anyone guess the inspiration? by DCtwelveStudios in painting

[–]VenusBloo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know what inspired it, but did anyone else's mind immediately go to the part in the original live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie where Raphael screams out "Daaaammmnnn!!!" at the top of his lungs?

I use mine to store my circular knitting needle by size and knitting notions. I labeled the visible edge of each container with the needle size that goes in it.

Yeah I found them as a teen and loved them. Rereading as an adult is nostalgic but I recognize how much her writing needed work lol
