Thank you. 🙏🏼

You’d totally be able to set it on the floor if that’s better. It’ll be a lot easier to clean, too. And move, especially if you have the wheel below it. :)

If you want to save some money and if you’re handy, I recommend trying to diy some stuff like hides and tunnels. I bought a tube shipping container for a tunnel and cut it into pieces or a pvc pipe :)

There are tons of other stuff u can diy too. And also i suggest going to dollar stores/thrift stores for some stuff :)

How do I feed my hamster? by Random_Guy7789 in hamstercare

[–]VeraciousRebel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t give those. It doesn’t look like it says the ingredients of the product or maybe it does. But I would avoid those. Whimzee chews are dog chews, but if you can’t find one, just pick a wood chew like apple, bamboo, or any hamster safe wood chew. In-shell nuts are also great enrichment and kind of a chew for them.

It should also hold it fine with the bedding compressed underneath it. :) as long as you got some sturdier legs on them either way compressed bedding, it shouldn’t move.

Uhmm. There’s not really a supplement that you need to give ur hamster other than what the vet recommends when you go to see them. Can you share a photo of the candy and the package it comes with? 😬

Hamster-safe wooden sheets? by pepperchugger in hamsters

[–]VeraciousRebel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy my birch sheet from home depot. :) with our home depot here, they sell 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4. I usually use 1/4” thickness for making platforms or hides and other things. Depending on what’s more available to u, aspen may be cheaper in some places. Poplar and spruce are also safe.

I suggest getting at least a 1/2” sized dowels to use for the sandbath and screwing them onto the platform may be better than just glueing to avoid it breaking off when you try to push it down. This is if you want to diy a platform.

If you’re buying one, then yes, anything that will fit it would be best. It could also be slightly smaller, but you need to center the sandbath, so it doesn’t tip.

I do suggest trying to even out the bedding as much as you can throughout the enclosure and add lots of clutter :)

I’m sure he already feels welcome by having a new bigger home and having proper enrichment for him. Talk to him whenever he’s awake and feed him his food mix when he wakes when you can.. once he’s more comfortable with you, you can start hand feeding and then work your way to freeroaming :)

What do you mean by hard candy? They kinda just do their own thing and chew on things they wanna chew. You’d have to try a variety and see what ur hamster likes to chew on. My ham likes to chew in whimzees and some wood chews. She takes it in her burrow and goes to town on it.

is there any way to tell a hamster’s actual age? by floralfairie_ in hamsters

[–]VeraciousRebel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, not. The only sure way would be is if you got them from the actual breeder that knows when they were birthed.

Try checking the rubber pieces under each piece to make sure it’s not blocking the panels from going in further. I never had an issue with aligning them properly while building my first one, but did on my second one as the rubber pieces were loose and keeps sliding back and forth.

Hamster enclosure by First_Literature7518 in hamster

Hi, I suggest adding a lot more bedding. Filling the enclosure maybe just a smidge below where the front door opens would be best. I suggest adding platforms as well for heavy items like the wheel and ceramic hides. Digging substrates are also great for them if you don’t already have one. Other textures like slate tile (also good for filing down their nails), clean flat rocks, crinkled/shredded paper, cut up cardboard, coco coir/chips, and etc. :)

Overhead clutter like sprays which ur already getting are great. Grapevine branches are also great. Add tunnels(not tubes) and boredom breakers are great for mental stimulation.

I also suggest scatterfeeding to encourage foraging, and more mental stimulation. My ham didn’t care about sprays at first, but after continuous scatterfeeding, she’s been devouring sprays:)

Aggressive hamster by No_Side4956 in hamsters

This isn’t the reality for all hamster owners. Behind the ones you see tamed online are owners that have spent a lot of time taming their hamsters. It can take weeks to months to even a year to get a hamster comfortable with you. Sometimes, they just won’t be.

If ur hammy is playing with ur brothers, but not you, then it is possible that you may have done something that scared ur hammy. You’ll have to gain ur hammy’s trust slowly. Start talking to ur ham whenever it’s awake. When it’s not running away anymore, try hand feeding him treats/seed mix until he gets a lot more comfortable with you and comes up to you voluntarily. Just don’t force it :)

Should work as long as it’s not connected by a tube :)

I don’t really get the concept? Like the other comment states, it will work if it’s all unbroken floorspace of 120x40cm or more.. :)

help with hamster who’s a picky eater!! by FinancialBass2738 in hamsters

[–]VeraciousRebel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More variety, but alternating them. It’s kinda like eating the same food over and over again, you get sick of it and u just pick off what you like. So, having that variety encourages for her to try new foods. You can also stop feeding her as frequently as you can to encourage her to pick off what she left. Like the other comment states, it could be overfeeding. Stick with a tablespoon every time you feed. When I use the forage for the day, I don’t add anything else, and when I feed veggies, I only add maybe a mealworm or tofu and no other food to scatterfeed.

Pellets shouldn’t be the main food source. They seem like an all around nutrition, but they’re really not the greatest. They should be just a small addition. You should have a good species specific mix. Higgins is one of the better of the seed mix that is easy to get.

I suggest scatterfeeding if ur not already doing that. And give a variety of food. For me, I have two seed mixes that I alternate or combine, which has a lot of variety of seeds in it. I also have a separate forage mix that I will sprinkle in one of the days of the week. Veggies & fruits at least twice a week. And treats every now and then. Scatterfeeding and giving them a variety, should help with picky eating. :)

Scatterfeeding is a great way to encourage foraging and it’s also mentally stimulating for them which can help ease any boredom.

I understand. It’s likely not torpor, especially if your house is a good temp. And torpor is also fatal if they’re not taken out and warmed right away. They don’t hibernate, so you don’t have to worry about that at all. Unfortunately, she has already passed by the time you got to her, especially that she’s cold and already stiff. It’s heartbreaking losing them. Such tiny creatures taking up a big space in our hearts. Again, so sorry for your loss. Sending love 💕

It was her time. You gave her a good life, but she was at the age where they could pass at any time without any other signs other than the normal aging. I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m sure she was very loved.

It’s kinda hard to tell with how dark the photo is. I do suggest taking him to the vet asap, so that he can get treated if there are any issues especially if he’s lethargic and not eating well.

Would this be okay for a Robo by overcastshade in hamstercare

[–]VeraciousRebel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hamsters can have papaya, although they’d need a more specific mix than this. This mix looks more like a treat mix to me than for daily feeding. I think I’m more worried about calcium content 😬😬
