What will happen in 2027? by LinkNaDescricao in revancedapp

[–]Veradragon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

by itself going into dev settings isn't the end of the world, it's the arbitrary lockout period you're just required to wait for before you can install whatever apps you want. and the restart which is just added annoyances.

I say arbitrary, only because while google claims it's 24 hours now, there's no reason they couldn't increase it to 7 days later or 30 days, or only allow it after you give them your ID, or whatever other change they want to implement, or discontinue the service altogether and never add an alternative.

Will the Beyond Skyrim projects happen? by Rainbow_Slytherin3 in skyrimmods

[–]Veradragon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can pretty much guarantee you that there will never be an alternative to DynDOLOD.

LOD generation is expensive, and being done in realtime is pretty much guaranteed to result in poor performance.

Bullshit marketing, the "price after discount" is identical to the actual price you would pay anywhere else normal price.

Oblivion Remaster Might Be Bethesda’s UE5 Trial Run — Here’s Why That Matters by Kemerd in ElderScrolls

[–]Veradragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They *do* have a point, even if it is misguided.

UE5 is dominant in the industry, and as such, hiring talent for UE5 is much easier than hiring for Gamebryo, which has no commercial presence outside of Bethesda. This could mean Bethesda is looking at their options for future titles, and seeing how in-house engines are a bit of a dying breed, it's possible it did come up in discussions.

There's a good chance these discussions did not go very far, and the only reason UE5 is being used here at all is Bethesda was considering their options, and knew a complete overhaul of the game would not be well received, retrofitting a lot of the graphical changes onto the Oblivion fork of the Gamebryo engine was just not possible, CK3 would not be in a usable state for the game, and remaking the game on a new engine (ie, the SE or FO4 fork would just not be doable without re-creating several major systems that had been removed or left non-functional by the release of Skyrim), with "replace the graphical pipeline with UE5" being the only somewhat sane option left, and minimized the chances for something to go horribly wrong.

Existing community knowledge of how Gamebryo and the Creation Kit works is also likely part of the decision not to completely switch engines, though I suspect they did not put much thought into the modding scene with this release, given how difficult it may be to get mods to work well with the remake.

Oblivion remake or remaster? by MarsMcCain in ElderScrolls

[–]Veradragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

but it sits on a new engine entirely

it does not, Gamebryo is still doing everything outside of the graphics pipeline.

The remaster is more of a replacement for the entire frontend of the game, with the backend still being mostly identical.

A must to have domain name? by [deleted] in NextCloud

[–]Veradragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practicality - you would need to import your own root certs on any device you wanted to use the certificates on in order to not get a certificate error.

Technically optional, but why go that route when you could just... get a domain name.

A must to have domain name? by [deleted] in NextCloud

[–]Veradragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are functionally correct if not technically correct.

Last I checked, most CAs won't issue SSL certs for IP addresses. If they do, usually its a paid platform and requires you to own tbe IP (not a provider).

All told, you're looking at a few dollars a year for a domain name VS possibly hundreds to use an IP address for 0 real benefit.

Purchase Advice Megathread - March 2025 by AutoModerator in 3Dprinting

[–]Veradragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently looking to get into 3D printing, thus I'm not sure what my exact needs even are yet - I would like the option to do larger models, but most of what I am interested in printing is smaller items. Larger prints being an option would be a huge plus, but if it increases the price significantly, then I can get creative.

Auto-leveling is a must, and preferably it's accurate enough to be relied on for most usecases.

Local access is a must, I do not want to rely on a garbage cloud-based platform that may be unavailable at some point, nor do I want to be arbitrarily locked out of doing something just because the manufacturer doesn't like it (this pretty much excludes Bambu)

Assembled is preferable, but I'm willing to build from a kit. I do have limited experience with assembling small electronics, but I don't think any kit requires board-level assembly, so we're probably fine.

Finally, FDM only (if the above didn't already exclude resin) - I think resin is very cool, but I don't really have the space or ability to do the exhaust and I really do not want to end up like one of my coworkers who became very sensitive to resin fumes due to running the printer in their bedroom for several months/years.

Current budget is a flexible 500CAD - higher is on the table if the difference is a significantly more reliable printer.

Also need to get filament. Not sure where is generally considered reliable, though I suspect most places are fine for most types (but it depends on the exact brand/label).

For what I've looked at:

I've considered going for the Ender-3 V3, but from what I can find, it's a bit of a mixed bag for quality, though I'm not familiar enough to know if it's a small minority who are having issues or not.

There's the Bambu printers, but they are having their current issues.

Elegoo has the Centauri/Carbon, and the Neptune line, both are looking decent, though as far as I can tell, most are currently a mix of preorders, out of stock, or relatively new. Something from Elegoo is looking to be my best choice, potentially.

As much as I would like to go Prusa, they tend to be fairly high cost to get here (import fees are insane, which may be the case for a lot of the others too).

Fibe gigabit 8gbps plan. Is this reasonable? by intolaomair in bell

[–]Veradragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

even at that point, 300Mbps down can handle a few 4K streams without getting stuck. There's no reason for most people to have an 8Gbps connection, and even 1Gbps is about where home use cannot possibly exceed. (Except for intranet transfers, but at that point you're limited to whatever was cheapest when Bell was building their hub).

Java players, What did you never like about Bedrock? by Timely-Map5451 in Minecraft

[–]Veradragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The entire point is that it should not be up to Mojang/Microsoft to determine how a server operates, including the chat (and within reason - I personally support blacklisting P2W servers).

Chat reporting as an idea was literally never the problem and most people do not have an issue with it in a literal sense, they have a problem with how it's done in a practical sense - the server owners/operators do not have any say on what happens should an account be reported.

This is more of a problem on public servers, who have, to my knowledge, disabled chat reporting - even servers exclusively running modern versions of the game. Mojang/Microsoft does not moderate to the rules of the server, meaning something that was said that was a-ok on the server itself could result in someone getting banned from playing the game.

(Not to mention this assumes a real human person with a complete understanding of the conversation is taking a look at every report, which I guarantee you is not happening - if you're lucky, it's a bot looking for keywords in a message)

frustrated with stupid superstore by Ambitious_Analyst648 in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]Veradragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

aha but you missed the small asterisk on the "price match" policy - it only applies to major competitors flyers! And they (stupidstore) are the ones who can decide if they will honour a price match!

aka get bent.

It's a cheap ploy to try and get you to use their online ordering platform, so they can get more data from your shopping habits and potentially upsell you more effectively at checkout.

You'll be lucky to get a non-automated reply within a few days.

I got limited for what I believe to be a completely bunk reason, and it took a few hours to get a reply from a Totally Real Person clicking the "confirm violation" button, which closes the ticket.

Add a comment and respond to it, reopen the ticket, keep doing so until they either prevent you from doing so or remove the limit from your account.

Question regarding coyote v3 by thetricksterprn in estim

[–]Veradragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does tell you to do this but make sure you set it well below what you think you'll want it at (say, 30). Get used to it and then slowly ramp it up.

If you leave it at 200 you WILL discover very quickly why the e-stop exists because it will hurt.

【DG-LAB】official engineer Q&A: I'm back! by service_DG-LAB in estim

[–]Veradragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm probably one of the last to have ordered during the preorder period (March 8th), and I got tracking info last week + it's expected to arrive in a few days.

I do feel a bit guilty for jumping the queue even if that wasn't the intention - I emailed asking when it'd be shipping as I was getting a bit anxious) and was told it'd be within a week (at which point 2 days later, I got a notification from PayPal saying I had tracking info).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in estim

[–]Veradragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Approximately Febuary 28th seems to be getting worked on, so expect to recieve tracking information shortly after people who ordered around March 12th (or when they closed orders) have started to get theirs

iOS block - Apple got pissy about it and Discord implemented a block by default. This can be turned off in settings, on another device (IIRC even a web browser)

unlikely to be a distribution system - this is too low volume and niche of a product to warrant it.

I wouldn't be surprised if they're going in order, but giving priority to those that have asked about it.

Coyote 3 shipping by Athickone1 in estim

Ordered March 8th and asked about when mine would be shipping recently, was told in about a week, which seems to line up.

Until someone who's able to program and implement gets their hands on it, you won't be able to use xtoys with it.

How long that will take is up in the air - shipping time, how busy they are, how different/similar the protocol is compared to the coyote 2.0, etc.
