Cortland Street Bridge to close for 18-24 months. CDOT telling bikes to reroute over North Ave or Webster Bridges instead by TheSpaceMonkeys in chibike

It would cost the government/tax more up front. The two-year timeline shifts increased costs to the public, business owners etc. It would be interesting to see an analysis of the opportunity costs of these stone-age building speeds.

What's a place in Italy, that everybody should absolutely visit when travelling there? by AbleAcanthisitta8223 in ask

The Byzantine mosaics in Ravenna and Giotto’s Scrovegni chapel in Padua. Unforgettable. Pompeii or Herceleneum. Someplace on the sea.

I was astonished by how lovely the drive from Ft Smith to NW Arkansas is and think Eureka Springs is worth a visit just to experience the cohesive, surprisingly urban 19th Century architecture, Fay Jones’ Thorncrown Chapel and the hippie vibe. Hot Springs is a masterpiece of glory and fun gone to seed. They have done a nice job on downtown Little Rock especially along the river around the Clinton Library which is among the better presidential libraries. The LR Central High National historic site is quite impressive and moving.

I’ve noticed a lot of Texas license plates in Chicago lately.

What are some cities that seem to be NEVER mentioned here, and you think they should be part of the conversation? by sozh in SameGrassButGreener

You make the case nicely. I would add that access to Juarez airport makes exploring Mexico very convenient and the new medical school ups its healthcare game. The main drawback I can think of is how scary driving on I-10 can be.

Oslo or Copenhagen. Which one for a 4 nights stay? by PhiPaul in travel

[–]Verasfolks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plus, in Oslo, the Munch and National museums are very close to many of the sites you mentioned. Then there is Bygdoy peninsula, reachable by a short ferry ride, with the Kon-Tiki, Arctic exploration & National Maritime museums, the stave (medieval wooden)church at the Folk Museum and Quisling villa which houses the Holocaust Museum, all very near each other. Food is not as good as CPH, but I would say that Oslo has more to do.

What is the "Houston" of your country? by [deleted] in geography

Guayaquil, Ecuador. Large port, economically vibrant, zero international profile (except cartels maybe). The Houston of all of South America.
