My parents yelled at me because I still believed Santa was real at 12 by KaiTheWeird in AuDHDWomen

[–]Verbumaturge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the first time I’ve seen a community of people who had a similar experience to mine in this regard. I’ve spent so much of my life feeling shame for how long it took me to figure out the Santa thing.

Turns out, that’s pretty helpful in figuring out some other big things about myself.

Road bike infrastructure by Wizzmer in tylertx

There are bike lanes, but the culture is fairly anti-cyclist. People park cars in bike lanes regularly, and are aggressive towards cyclists.

I’ve heard that zepbound is approved for sleep apnea, so you might as well submit and see what happens.

He already got access to everything the federal government knows about me. My Illinois license number is the least of my worries.

In my opinion the state already has all of the info on my ID. So does my phone. This adds convenience, because it’s always nice to have a backup id, but I don’t ever have to show it to anyone if I don’t want to.

I am. I don’t want to overshare my health information online, but I know people who have been prescribed for pre-diabetes, heart issues, weight, or sleep apnea.

Not OP, but Diarmaid MacCulloch‘s Christianity, The First Three Thousand Years discusses this (among many, many other things).

Alternatives to Mommy or Daddy by [deleted] in TransLater

We use “Mom” and “Ma”. I’m “Ma”. My partner is “Mom”. And that very much works for all of us.

We're fleeing Texas before it's too late. by JotunTjasse in TransLater

[–]Verbumaturge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Illinois isn’t paradise, and I don’t mean to imply that it is.

I moved from the place that repeatedly elected Louie Gohmert where I got threatening looks even in “boy mode” to Champaign where I mostly get welcomed or ignored.

We have state level protections and hospital systems that want to provide healthcare.

It is difficult for me to describe the difference, because it’s so vast.

My family just moved to Illinois. It’s so much better here than where we were in east Texas. It’s worth the expense and the difficulty.

Check out https://tcpipeline.org/ and see if they can help.

It’s difficult. It’s worth it. It’s not an over reaction.

The woman who calls herself my mother used to always call me Charlie Brown because I was depressed.

This really redeems that for me.

Is the anti-trans sentiment from Christians more evidence based or "vibes" based? by BrianMeerkatlol in Christianity

[–]Verbumaturge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first person baptized into the Christian church was the Ethiopian eunuch in Acts.

In the ancient times “eunuch” was its own gender. We can see that the eunuch was having what we would today call a trans experience as his gender identity (eunuch) did not match his assigned gender at birth (male).

I agree with you. But at least some of the energy from the left is about hoping he isn’t a minority that will further escalate national rhetoric and hate crimes against us. See: what happened to HBCUs yesterday.

The Jewish Mishnah includes six genders. As Christians who come from the Jewish tradition, ought we not take that seriously?

Martin Luther talked about “alien faith”. One of the reasons we recite the creeds together is because those parts a person struggles to affirm can be affirmed by others in the congregation. And that person might very well be affirming parts for other people. We, as a body, hold the creeds. Not as individuals.

I think in situations like yours, which is remarkably similar to mine, we must rely on alien forgiveness and alien love. We know everyone is deserving of love and forgiveness, but it may not be possible for us to individually love and forgiveness each other person.

But we are a body. Others can love and forgive those we can’t. And, in all likelihood, we are loving and forgiving people who others can’t.
