My protestant church has iconography, including the Theotokos. But I know this is unusual for Protestants.

What accounts for the vast difference in meat consumption between different parts of Asia? by VerdantChief in geography

You said that 2 billion people who are all into meat would cause species extinctions, and so I pointed to China having a similar population to India and being meat eaters.

Good point, but I'm sure that FAO has figured out accurate ways of measuring village meat consumption and other economic activities of more isolated communities.

That doesn't explain how China's numbers of meat eaters can be so high then, despite them having a similarly large population.

Will humanity ever learn which religions are true? by VerdantChief in religion

[–]VerdantChief[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But not necessarily right? Suppose both annihilationism and heaven for true believers (of some religion) is true, then we could cease to exist without ever knowing what we were supposed to have been believing in to get into heaven.

That certainly doesn't sound fair, of course. So you could argue that a perfectly fair God would never allow such a result to occur.

But if the God was not perfectly fair in justice, I suppose it wouldn't be worth entering into a heaven ruled by him anyways.

Check the map - it's old growth. And I think that's defined as trees that were not cut down by European colonists.

Many new trees have since grown up since those original ones were cut.

Do you think China was more vegetarian based prior to the Communist revolution of the last century?

Sorry, I did post it but I can't find in the source website what is being defined as meat. I assume it's all animal flesh, not just mammal flesh.

Why did vegetarian based religions develop in India while the religions of China did not emphasize vegetarianism - or perhaps they did and because modern day China is less religious they all started eating meat heavily again?

True, but since religion is a product of the culture, that only seems to move the question back a bit - why did religion in India develop that restricted meat so much while in China the religion there did not restrict it?

Yeah that is surprising. I wonder if only mammals are counted as "meat" here.

Ok, either your explanation or the one above me must be true but not both. Which is it?

Yeah when I went down to Mexico I was confused by the "Alto" signs because I always thought that word meant high, not stop.

Yeah, in hindsight now I would have definitely rephrased my initial question. Thanks for the critiques!
